Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

They would have spoken about it, but at the time it wouldn't have had too much meaning given we only knew about pick 10 at the time. I don't think upgrading to pick 7 was planned at that stage, so who GC took at pick 6 wouldn't really have been too much of a worry (as they could go at pick 7/8/9 anyway, before they got to our pick)

We were always going to swap picks 3 and 10 from the Gold Coast for an exchange which involved our pick 6. They were going to retain a pick ahead of pick 10 (6) and the later exchange with GWS which landed us 7, merely bought the picks closer together.

I am sure that we discussed the exchanges at length with both GC and GWS before each Club signed off!

It's funny. Normally I'd say let's take two midfielders, we need all the help we can get, but given we've got two first rounders, if we believe the Weed is worth it, I'd be taking him now. I'd get a midfielder with the other pick though. We must take best available, not needs based. As many know, the very best KPP tend to come from the top 10 or even top 5.

Yeah, Jack Viney at one point said Jimmy Toumpas was the best player he's played with. Cool.

Do you even know of Collins? Have you seen him play? The kid will be a gun.

I was just constructively adding to the conversation and replying with information worth adding.

Also Viney played in the same team as Toumpas. Collins was playing on and against Weideman.

Watch the video before making flippant remarks.

Collins is a gun with a senior body already. I wouldn't pick him up though as I like the T.McDonald - Frost future we have. We have Dunn and Garland as 3rd and 4th talls until O.McDonald is a regular.

We need a speedy mid and a tall forward, which 2 top 10 picks should fill nicely. I'm a big fan on taking best available, but I think this is the last year of the so called rebuild, so we should fill spots of need. If we make finals from 2016 onwards, say goodbye to top 10 picks, so I reckon lets get what we need, then the boys can grow together and towards our 13th premiership. Gee, I can't wait for the day!!

In reference to Collins, I always question if a key position backman at junior level is so talented and warrants a top 10 pick, then why isn't he playing as a forward? There has been numerous examples of talented forwards at junior level making it as a backman at AFL level, but you never see the reverse.

I agree.

I added the clip of Weideman talking about Collins as someone else had mentioned Collins if Weideman went before 7.

Only problem is that other than Weitering and Schache, Weideman is the only other potential tall forward around the 7 mark.

Although we do have Joel Smith as a tall forward addition. I think he was kept under wraps and is going to be twice the player Howe was.

Collins is very, very good. Strong in the contest, reads the ball well and looks like he added a bit of run to his game this year. The other thing to consider is that he's a December birthday, so will be considered to have a fair amount of development in him. Who knows, if he was a month younger, we might have been talking about him as next years Weitering.

I think in an AFL.com draft podcast Gary Buckenara rated him (personal rankings) as third best this year, and Bucky's got a pretty decent track record. I think we'd like to get another key back in, and would not be surprised if Collins is in our thoughts. Especially if we take Parish and Curnow & Weideman are gone by 7.

We may need a Kieran Collins thread.

He is not 18 and already a big lad and will probably get a bit bigger. If you took someone like him and he made it you would have others like Frost and T Mac who could go forward and hopefully later King and Oscar. Maybe even Watts stands up and takes a key spot. I actually thought Watts was ok early as a lead up forward.

Let me say I know nothing about this kid.

Always very difficult to read the development of a key position player as they're playing on men, Tom Boyd became the number 1 pick because he was huge and dominated skinny kids, now at AFL level he is struggling to make the jump, his bank account isn't but that's a whole different convo

Collins reminds me of a young Danny Hughes.

Back to Weideman though, I think we would take him if he was still there at 7 as we need someone to form a long term duo with Hogan.

Imagine Hogan, Weideman and a jack in the box Smith in the forward line!

Question is who would we take if Weideman is gone at 7?

Even though he is slated to go late first round I would take Riley Bonner from SA.

Plays as a backman but IMO he will develop into the best mid from this draft.

I doubt both Weideman and Curnow will be gone before our 2nd pick. We only have Ess and GC in between our picks, and I'm pretty sure GC won't pick up a tall fwd. They have Lynch, Day & Wright. And also, Essendon need young mids as well. In my opinion, they pick up one of Weideman or Curnow with their 1st pick. And their 2nd pick will be out of Balic, Francis, Milera or Parish (if we don't pick him at 3).

Just asking: how many frustrating years did Tom Hawkins take to become a dominant player? 4? 5?

he started his coming of age in the GF againt the Filth in 2011. That makes it at the end of his 5th AFL year. He was also a big body right from the start.

Yep - up til then he could only kick goals on Nathan Carroll

People forget it takes a while for most big blokes to be AFL ready

Which underlines why those dismissing Tom Boyd may well rue their words

Also underlines what a freak we have in Jesse !

I do see your point, not every key forward is a Jesse Hogan...

I always felt Tom Hawkins showed signs in that time, not consistently enough, i personally watch the dogs quite closely and haven't really seen much that tells me Boyd is all that special.

If this kid has Murray Weideman's mongrel in him and some ability , I'd pick him up.

yeah...and he'll plss off back to his fathers filth at the first chance. Don't bother

Given the crazy money that's starting to be thrown around for teams to trade in Key Forwards. Think Boyd & now Dixon, who is an ok but not outstanding player yet & the play for McCarthy you'd think if Weideman was there we'd probably take him to set us up for the future as at some point we're going to have to get another key forward.

Well if he does go, they'll need to give up something decent for him. That Howe bloke looks alright!

you haven't learnt.

No value dealing with filth.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
