Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2015 Player Review - # 4 Jack Watts

Not saying it's a great result for a talented player, but the question was "is he in our best 22?" and currently he's our 18th best player, so yes, he is.

On his skills set and footy smarts he is top 3 on our list.

My friend who coaches under 16's TAC attends (or used to) AFL coaching clinics. Guest speakers have included names such as Clarkson, Longmire, Parkin, Pagan and Jumbo's favourites the Scott brothers.

They were asked about what they look for when they are/were recruiting, their answers were pretty similar

- natural competitors

- elite disposal

- footy smarts

And they were in that order. They acknowledged that classier outside players were still required to win their own ball on occasions and lay a tackle/smother/shepherd.

No doubt there will be an example of someone that doesn't fit that bill but that's what they were saying.

They deemed footy smarts as being easiest to teach to a player. Where to run, where to set up, how to position your body etc....

You cannot teach someone to be a competitor, it's in them if it's not.

The one i really disagreed with was it took some stupid amount of hours(I think he said a couple of hindered??) to change someone's kicking technique. But he was probably right, Franklin runs on a arc, Kennedy does the stutter step, both unorthodox but work. Cloke is still a mess.

Set shots obviously different from in transition.

I have been a supporter of Jack all the way, despite some anger at a few incidents and I can see why he would be considered for a trade.

However I thought he improved his game this year, actually took a couple of hard marks after the debacle head duck game and got a bit better.

Given his height, versatility and skills and the fact that we are getting harder and better all over the ground, we can afford to keep Jack and hope that he becomes the player we would like him to be.

The fact that he seems to want to stay is another plus.

Thanks for the in-depth analysis of Watts etc, hasn't been enough of that in this thread....

I was making a simple point. At this stage he is still in our best 22. You can take that either way as far as what it says.

The 4 millionth Jack Watts story is in today's Age newspaper.

The paradox which is JW is clear in that he knows what he has to do, he appears to want to do it but somehow hasn't yet been able to get there.

I want Jack Watts to stay for three reasons. First, he's undoubtedly talented and skillful, but flawed. Eliminate, or at least reduce, the flaws and we have icing to go on the top. Secondly, he seems to have the right character to make the club a better team. And thirdly, and selfishly, I cannot bear the thought of him becoming a successful, star player at another club.

if Watts is traded this year I doubt it will be for a pick...part of a bundle of some description...for a player...just my thinking granted

Yep aware of that. But we would be lucky to get a second round pick in a weak draft this year, we would likely get a second round pick next year in a better draft as compo.

All this discussion about trading picks in this year's weak draft seems to be missing the point that future year draft picks are now also able to be traded.

I'm not advocating that Jack Watts should be traded, but surely we need to update our thinking a bit.

if we loose a six foot 5 player who runs like the wind ,kicks like a dream and now knows what the game is all about.we are [censored],takes a while for the taller blokes for their feet to catch up with their brain.Dont doubt his courage, loyal to the club though tough times, put him in a side like hawthorn he would be a champ,he his this club future

Interesting on the radio yesterday they were talking about Jack. They said he has been in the system for 6 years now, how can he still be told he has to go into contests and compete for the ball. They said after 2 seasons you should not have to tell a player that.

I guess next season will be interesting.

There's plenty that do. Read the post above about Buckenara's comments on Matt Suckling. Could mirror Watts. The Hawks would have ditched Watts 3ys ago.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
