Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not sure why you compared Garlett to Dawes as Garlett is streets ahead:

Garlett: 22 games, 40 goals, average 1.8.

Career average: 1.7 per game

Dawes: 14 games, 11 goals, average 0.8

Career average: 1.1 per game

souce: MFC website

Jeff kicks 35-45 goals every year and there is no reason why he can't play 22 games for a few years yet.

Dawes can't even get on the park let alone kick goals.

I was actually referring to Newton who kicked 11 goals from 11 games. Dawes kicked 11 from 14. Obviously they're not competing for the same spot but goals are goals. Newton matched Dawes' output this year on the scoreboard in less games.

Garlett did well to play 22 games this year. It's not easy to play every game in a season especially when you're as skinny as him. It would be very useful to build some depth in the small forward ranks which is where I fit Newton in for 2016.

You can say it, but I disagree.

As a key forward you float a lot more these days. I agree that Hogan's best place is what was the traditional CHF position.

I think he will basically have the run of the forward line a bit like Carey, so at times he may start from the square and at others further up the ground including occasional runs in at centre bounces.

Having watched the reply, the highlights for mine were Viney (superb game), Hogan (those marks...), Jones and Vince (no coincidence we won when they each played their best game since Collingwood), and Harmes.

I'm really excited by Harmes, he has the right physique, can take a mark, but seems to have some pace too.

Jeff also is very unselfish too. One of Hogan's goals was beautifully set up by Garlett. Love his tenacious tackling and chasing.

The thing that impresses me about Garlett is the speed in which his brain operates. That pass to Hogan was a split second decision as Hogan appeared in his sight. It helps that he's also got the skill and foot speed to go with it.

Still can't believe we got him for a packet of stale twisties. Thanks again Mick.

I've only seen 3/4 of the replay but my impression is that Newton is soft and runs hard one way. Great, he got three goals. Huzzah.

Loved Stretch's game - linking, running, moving where he should when he should. Small, but tackles as hard as he can and doesn't shirk the issue. Sure with his possessions. Does everything that toump should do but doesn't.

Viney needs a mate - ANB next year perhaps?

With two more mids from trade week and petracca we'll have power and depth in the midfield. Bugger me.

Losing vanders and Kemp is really hurting us forward.

It's funny but my Port mate loved him as a contested ball winner, said he was kept out by strong midfield but reminded him of another Boak.

We haven't really seen this from him yet.

The crowd was around what I expected, but I still think it's disappointing that barely a fifth of people who paid for memberships (even though membership numbers aren't very reliable indicators these days) end up coming for the final home game, for whatever reason it may be. That's a lot who've dropped off and I think those who are buying memberships should do so with attending every game in mind. Given our recent history no one should be appalled at how the season has panned out.

Get a life you nong

You'd prefer they didn't buy a membership?

Just watched the replay last night, apologies if this has been covered in this thread already but one of the commentators said Salem had "second year blues" and was "better in attack than on half-back".

Who the hell was this?

Do these idiot commentators actually WATCH the footy at all? Salem was injured for most of the year, how the hell can you infer from that that he has second year blues?

Also, he's clearly been a much better performer, and much more important to the side, when he's played his role on half-back.

One of them also called a possession by Mumford. I lol'd.

In other news, I love Hogan. So very, very much.

Thought it was a strange call myself...it's this sort of stuff that makes you realise how little homework some of these clowns do.

I posted pics from my trip to Melbourne on Facebook and included are a few from training and a few from the game (although I'm not so happy with the quality of those):

Would be interesting to know who that was as clearly they haven't done their research. Early days this year I wasn't sure about his position of HB but against GWS he was the perfect linking player with his exceptional kicking. What he also displayed was a bit of flair; several times he backed himself to get past players and did some run and carry.

Really liked his game and will be a great platform for him next year.

There was also a call by dwayne I think during the game when he said Gawn was off the ground receiving treatment and as he is saying it the next shot shows Gawn in the ruck. He is such a ittle twirp and didn't even correct himself.

Put it this way I wouldn't swerve to miss him if I saw him crossing the road actually id probably speed up!

Watched the replay and thought I'd add that Michie found himself in defence a number of times purely through gut running - even got an intercept mark or two. Hopefully thats now the benchmark that he sets for himself because I can see him being a great accumulator of the footy if he can build on his tank and get around the ground more.

Yep, this was covered in the Derwayne thread. It was Lynch and Johnson that had that dialogue. It's pretty frustrating when you just know they are speaking complete garbage.

Salem was good before the injury and has been good since coming back, but we get told he has second year blues. He also barely touched the ball as a forward and was in and out of the side last year. He's taken a big step forward this year, even with the injury.

I get that the commentators can't know the ins and outs of every player, but it would be nice if they didn't resort to just making shit up when they don't know what they're on about.

He has really net skills as well. Has the ability to hit the 30m pass to the lead up forward rather then bomb it long to a contest.

We have not seen that but he has had opportunity to show it. He'll be handy depth. A keeper for mine until we don't need him - 2 years.

and you just know they would never make the mistake about a young Collingwood or Hawks player, because they would have enough respect to first verify their comments or just not the make the comments if they were unsure... it is annoying

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
