There's not many players retiring or due to retire which I consider will without doubt be a senior coach one day.

The two that are, and have been standouts over their career in my opinion would be Luke Hodge and Steve Johnson.

Hodge's form clearly warrants another one or two years given where the Hawks are, challenging for another flag.

Johnson however has called time at Geelong and possibly, within the next week or two call time on his professional career altogether.

But let's say he doesn't. Is he the type of player to help fast-track our younger brigade by playing with them for a year or two and then assuming a coaching role?

We're years off challenging for a flag and with dead wood such as M Jones, Bail, Jordie Mc, et al about to be moved on, the question is whether we approach Johnson to bring a more daring and attacking player to our list.

Im not sure he would want to play for us because he wont win a flag with us in a year or so, but maybe an assistant coach could be good. Apparently he has a great footy brain and tactically very smart. I do wonder if we need to get some fresh voices in.

Agree, he's been trying to get by almost on skill alone, and when the teammates aren't good enough to "clean up" his more ambitious attempts, it goes pear shaped very quickly.

Well let's see, there's the public drunkenness and resulting club suspension, the time he lost his license for speeding, the pinching, head butting, and charging....

Not everyone who has won a premiership is a good example of culture.

It's a moot point anyway. If he plays anywhere next year it will be for a side that's in with a shot at a flag. That won't be us in 2016.
