Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Dees should seek AFL Exoneration of Tanking fiasco.

Let it go Red. Nobody cares anymore other than a few Demon supporters I reckon.

I know BB. It just sh-ts me that our club is the only one mentioned when tanking is brought up. A decent bloke died with a stain on his character and his family live with it and another bloke was removed from the AFL at the whim of Demetriou, for comments made in a PRIVATE not PUBLIC club meeting.

Many other clubs who did the same as us and had Officials admitting it publicly were not touched.

Now North tamper with the finals and ladder positions and do this under AFL sanction and clearly against the AFL rules, but it is ok for them.

It f-ing stinks.

Absolutley spot on Sue.

And ya know what ..... I'm sure Demetriou gave Schwab the go ahead.

He knew what was going on ,the whole footy word did because that's what half a dozen clubs had done before us.

Demetriou actually did give us the go ahead, when he said over and over, that Melbourne were only doing what others did and that as long as they didn't tell players to lose, they could manage their team however they wished.

I'll disagree with the methods North are employing rules they're manipulating right up until the MFC get the opportunity to do the same.

Only then, will it be okay and acceptable.

G'day Redleg,

Whilst I agree with you in principle, I'm reminded of the picture in your avatar and I'm wondering if that's the same dead horse you're flogging since there's no way we're going to get the $500k back because the AFL never admits to being wrong..

I only raised the issue as a discussion point, as it is in the spotlight. I know nothing will come of it, but you must admit that it stinks. Different rules for some, when it suits.

Now that the finals position is allowed to be changed by North, as sanctioned by the AFL, in total breach of the AFL Rules, Melbourne should seek a full exoneration, refund of fine money paid, exoneration of Bailey and Connolly and an apology for the misery the whole saga brought to us, together with full compensation. How many sponsors did we lose? How many members, etc ?

Perhaps a PP or 5 to make up for the damage the whole saga caused would be acceptable to the Club and full exoneration of everyone concerned.

Clearly the North Officials have discussed the resting of players and the effect it would have on the finals and where they are played and against who. That is all the AFL found we did, not Tank but discuss not playing our best team. Everyone agrees the players did their best on the day. Connolly and Bailey were vilified as a result, Connolly was run out of the game and Bailey died with a stain on his character, the club was tarnished and suffered untold damage.

The AFL says all that is now legal.

We need compensation for that damage, from the party who caused it, the AFL. Clearly we did nothing wrong and were cleared of tanking anyway.

Pretend we are a strong club and stand up for ourselves. At the very least leak the idea to the media, that we are considering it.

especially since the Pies, Dons, Blues & Suns & Lions are list managing as well,,,,,,, to they're differing degrees, to get to that desired position of the ladder which will allow them to achieve their desired draftee, the one they hope to pickup that should help them to become the team they want to be, in the shorter term.

........ the Natinal Draft as it is, must change, to make what is a near certainty of a selection position, a gamble of higher risk.

They (Norf and Freo) are setting themselves up to win a final next week.

We set ourselves up to win a better draft pick.

I trust most can see the difference, and why the suggestions in the OP are a tad silly.

In North's case they could be seen as doing a little more than just resting players to be fresh - they have a specific fixturing advantage to be gained by losing, and have taken actions which make it almost certain that they will lose.

They've done it overtly and blatantly, much as Hawthorn, Collingwood and Carlton all overtly and blatantly tanked back when it was socially acceptable, before captain impulse-into-obsession Demetriou decided to spend two years beating a dead issue up 'so that it can be put behind us'. (Wow, that guy was a walking oxymoron!)

Point is, what's acceptable comes down to mood. And the mood right now is 'Whatever'. there have been so many dead rubbers and one-sided pointless games this season that nobody is going to get too worked up about a couple more.

It actually wasn't Demetriou, he was helping us saying we were doing nothing wrong, it was Adrian Anderson his Footy Manager, who started the whole fiasco while Demetriou was overseas. I believe Demetriou was so angry with Anderson it cost AA his job a few months later.

Spot on Redleg - an overly zealous understudy (Anderson) thought he could stamp his authority while the Grand Poobah was out of town.

Sadly for him, instead of stamping said authority, he ended up stamping his own papers and being given the Tijuana.

Altho' I am no real fan of Demetriou's, I think he massaged as soft a landing as possible for us.

Harry Hindsight suggests that AA would probably like to press the rewind button on this one.

BTW, why do Libba's revelations re Carltank never seem to get much airtime?

That North has been able to rest players and effectively manipulate the final 8, guaranteeing themselves a final in Victoria is staggering and against the AFL's clear cut rules is absolutely staggering.

That the AFL have let them break their rules is not at all surprising

WJ did we ever actually pay the fine? If we did it was a temporary shuffle of cheques, $500k from us to them while $2M came back the other way to keep us solvent and allow us to bring in PJ and Roos.

There are lots of things that frustrate me. One is Sunday. I'm not sure we're playing our best team.

Of course it's moot. I'm sick of losing and I'm sick of complaining and I'm sick of excuses.

This is a Pandora's Box that need not be opened.

One thing that has impressed me on the land this year is that while we have whinged a lot about the onfield product, it's been just that. We whinge about our results on field.

Going over the numerous administrative misadventures again just opens up a can of worms that is no good for anyone. Natural justice wasn't served but as Tommy Hafey used to say to Richmond players in the 60's when people would pump up the teams of the 30's and 40's to them.
'I don't care what happened in the past. The now and the future should be what you are all about.'

you can't blame vladimir, for the taking investigation, at the time of on the couch set up, with mclean, vladimir was out of the country, Anderson made the decision to start the investigation, am sure vladimir was very angry with Anderson, Anderson was seen to take over from vladimir.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
