Changes v Collingwood

Dawes won't get near a contest to impact it 'stuie' and he's too slow and would be run rings around by opponents.

Covers more ground than a lot of the midfielders currently.

But I know bagging Dawes is all the rage.

If Salem is back next week and will push Grimes out of the side, why wait until then. We need midfielders on our back and fwd flanks.

Out - Dawes, The Punce, Grimes

In - Spenser, Newton, ANB

JETTA DUNN GARLAND

MICHIE TMAC CROSS

VINCE TYSON ANGUS

VB HOGAN HOWE

GARLETT SPENSER WATTS

GAWN JONES VINEY

NEWTON STRETCH HARMES ANB

I'm no fan, but Grimes was our second best player last week.

How about someone post some changes without unfounded bias?

I know The Prince has struggled lately but against his old side he could turn it on.

Pretty sure he doesn't 'stuie' but I don't have the GPS figures.

...and not bagging him, I don't think he would add anything further up the ground. He gets run off way to easily now.

If he has to play I would rather see him deep forward and have Hogan further up.

I would like to see them play with some confidence and boldness and I don't know if Roos can teach that - maybe he just moulds those that already have it in spades...

Anyway, I would like our improvement to include a desire to play good football.

The second healthiest game this year was a loss to the mob we are playing this week. We played some great footy. Exciting footy.

But "It ISN'T good enuff coz we didn't WIN!1!"

Reinforce good behaviour when you see it - otherwise you get people who think you want to see what we have seen the last month instead of good football.

I hope the Pies bring it out of this team again.

We played about a quarter against this mob last time and only lost by 4 goals. Play 4 quarters and we should win.

I'm going by watching him every week. Say what you want about his lack of goals or marking struggles, the guy covers a heck of a lot of ground.

I like Hogan and his superior marking and goal kicking close enough to goals to do some damage, then Gawn in there too for marking, and Jamar as ruck (as I explained in my original post). Gotta try something different.

Agree Rjay if we play him, play him out of the square. I once put forward the idea he could lead out looking for a chest mark on the run or bring the ball to ground a la Darren Bennett in the 90's. But of course modern footy dictates that the full forward is more likely to be found at half back chasing someone when we get the ball and then look forward to an empty forward 50 and then kick sideways.

Something like:

vandenBerg should have played a few games in the VFL first to get his mojo back rather than being rushed back into the senior side. We should drop him and let him find his feet again before bringing him back for the last handful of games.

Stretch has potential, but he's not ready. As with ANB, send him back to Casey and let him see how much he's improved.

Replace them with Jordie McKenzie and ANB, Riley, or Newton as the best of the midfield bunch from Casey.

We'll see. Force him to lay some tackles if he's gonna stay. As long as the 50's cleared out for our talented forwards.

That's what I think he'd be good for. Just tell him to be a "path clearer" up the ground. Tackle, shepherd, bump, make his physical presence felt. Could help us create space, and would definitely help us set a physical tone.

I can't understand those that want Spencer. His VFL review was horrible.

Good to see ANB have a really good game - shows great attitude.

I have a feeling Fitz has now cooked his goose as he hasn't been able to maintain his form.

Newton got a good rap as well.

I would be surprised if JKH makes it - wants to be flashy but doesn't have the pace or skills and a very suspect work ethic.

Would like to see Jamar come in for this game.

In: Jamar, ANB, Newton

Out: take your pick

It's not these things that bother me, what does is that he has no impact on the game. If he even just applied forward pressure that would be something but he doesn't and oppo defenders just run off him with ease. That's why I don't want Dawes in the side, he provides oppo teams an outlet to set up attack.

Agree with trying something different though.

the Prince is like blow fly in a a bottle when he picks the footy up at half back. some blokes make time stand still but Lumumba makes it look like the pace of the game doubles whenever he gets it. Just tries to do too much. Not our worst but in hindsight i was sucked in by the spin when we picked him up

some supporters gotta bag someone, Watts has been playing ok lately so Dawes is it!! There was a 'supporter' standing up behind me absolutely giving it to Dawes on Sunday, have to admit it was pretty funny and he was useless!!

If I recall correctly, when JKH was drafted I believe he was praised for his work ethic. Isn't this also what Roos was saying when he picked him to play at the beginning of last season?

What evidence is there that he has a "very suspect work ethic"?

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
