Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Poor coaching.

We did NOT lose because of the coaching. We should never have been in the position of having to defend a 4 point lead in the first place.

The "blame Roos" argument is just lazy and superficial. Paul Roos is NOT why we're losing games we should and could win.

"PAUL Roos has taken responsibility for Melbourne’s heartbreaking loss on Sunday as it emerged a communication breakdown may have cost the Dees in the final minute.

Midfielder Bernie Vince admitted he thought minutes remained on the clock when the final siren sounded."

why would you not instruct after Howe kicking goal to all flood back?

And last week not manning up loose man, I think the match day coaching is pretty dam average.

I think you're all fired up over nothing...

Could it have been that the 3/4 time instructions were to flood the back line, but if we got ahead, to go man-on-man???

And if the players thought there were still a few minutes to go, then that's what they did.

And Roos only realised what was happening once they started to line up for the bounce after Howe's goal.

Not Roosy's fault. He was yelling down the phone to get guys back.

Footy 101: four points up with 40 secs left... flood the backline.

Dumb footballers, lack of leadership on field.

To wait until 40s to go to get the message across of remaining time is unforgivable. The players should have known with at least two minutes to go of the remaining time. Massive [censored] up by Roos/assistants/runner.

Can you imagine if we made the same error in a final?

Well at least thats one thing we will never need to worry about

Gullible?

This whole "they didn't know how much time was left" is just some spin cooked up to protect the players. Roos didn't even mention it in the press conference, even though he was specifically asked about the final moments. It's something that came out later on.

It saves people asking why Nathan Jones wasn't in the centre for that last ballup, or why the leaders (cough cough) didn't organise the players to get behind the ball etc. etc.

Roos (and the club) is just covering for his team - well, in public anyway, but the players know that they stuffed up.

Everyone knew how much time was left, including the players on the field - it's partly why there was so much celebrating after Howe's goal - with under a minute to go, they thought they'd won it. Roos was screaming into the phone to get them back ... even if the runner wasn't around, the bench was close enough to communicate with the players onfield.

Hard lesson, but the players won't let that happen again. Hopefully.

Smart man. Says what he needs to say.

As a consequence, I'll bet that not a single player will be asked by a journalist why they didn't flood back after the Howe goal.

Unfortunately we do let things like this happen over and over again.

Our leaders are to blame from what I am read happened as I didn't see it.

Smart players would have gone back into defence, to flood the backline, stopping a quick shot,as it would have been hard to find a loose forward and forcing any shot to be from outside say 60 and likely to be taken away by a loose defender or at the least causing a stoppage. The leaders should have told the others what to do.

The best mids should have gone into the middle and if nothing else, forced a couple of more stoppages after the goal ball up. That would have seen the game out. That is what smart teams do. We are not a smart team, clearly.

I am certain Roos would have told them this over the pre season and during the game.

Every Coach would send players back in the same situation and I am sure Roos tried to.

Too many of our players turn the ball over and in critical situations and especially close to the opposition goals, when a long kick along the boundary is still a reasonable opposition if you can't find a clear player to pass to.

IMO we have too many dumb footballers. We also have far too many poorly skilled footballers. That is the main reason we lose games.

Coaching staff error for me.

I refuse to believe the players knew there were 40 seconds left and elected not to flood back. I cannot accept that experienced players like Cross and Lumumba wouldn't have called others back if they knew how long was left. 10-year olds know to do that. These blokes are experienced AFL players.

Lynch may have confirmed that the message went out with 40 seconds to go but it was too late then. The mistake was not alerting the players when there were 2-3 minutes left.

I don't think I've ever seen a team hit the lead in the last minute and retain a 6 man forward line. It simply has to be because the players were unaware how much time was left.

This was the coaching version of Fitzy's tunnel ball.

Did anyone hear the '5 mins to go' siren warning..

It still happens at the MCG and thought it mandatory at all grounds.

If it went off then players have no excuse for thinking there was 4/5 min on the clock.

Surely one of the leaders heard it.

Siren??? What???

The only five min warning I've ever known was on channel 10's coverage.

Even if we assume the players didn't know it was only 40 seconds remaining, why did they need to be told? Howe's goal was the first of the quarter. If not 40 seconds, the players should have known it was nearly finished and someone needed to stand up on field and lead.

And how did St Kila's players know? They don't get secret messages, their runners must have been out there telling their players - we didn't listen?

If the truth is that we didn't have our runner out there during Howe's set shot telling them how long was left, that's an embarrassing fail from the club. But regardless, our lack of instincive understanding and leadership from our players is just as concerning.

Gee, that was a long time ago...don't know what I was thinking!

Maybe the AFL should introduce one at the ground!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
