Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

As I said in another thread. I beleive Roos is a great motivator, teacher and player developer however I'm feeling he gets the better of every game we play. He doesn't seem to make strategic changes to take advantage of opposition flaws and weaknesses as other coaches do not does he make changes to mitigate areas we are being schooled in

Where is that killer instinct that al Clarkson showed against us? He flooded back so he would win by over 100 points. Terry Wallace was pretty convincing on the radio pointing that out as a very poor "coaching error".

The problem I see with the on field leaders argument is: how would they know it's 41 seconds to go?? It was what 27 minutes and most quarters go 30-32 mins.. If Nathan jones says flood back and here is still 4 minutes.. It was a 2 goal quarter so natural instincts are thrown. It had to come from the coach (and it clearly didn't).

Disappointed that we could and should have stolen that match. We needed that!

They get updated when there is 2 minutes to go mate, they'd have had a very good idea it was a minute or less.

Seriously guys, our coaces can only do so much, it's up to our players/leaders to lead on the field. If you're up with under a minute to go and you depend on the coach to tell you to flood back, you're a hopeless football team. I learnt that in under 13's, Hogan, Watts, Garlett should of all been behind the ball and make a contest. Our players lost that game not Roos. The players need to be accountable.

While I believe leadership on field is an issues - I wouldn't say any one players is to blame

It's hard for Roos and everyone when there are so many young players.... We need more time to play as a team. As bad as the past few weeks have been you can see fight and the team growing

it was Watts, Toump led by Jones and Bernie

Today sucked but it wasn't all bad

Alastair Lynch was in the Melbourne coaches box today and just said on Fox footy that Roos did send that message but obviously they didn't get it in time or chose not to act on it.

On field leadership was severely lacking in this instant.

Ironic that we spent 95% of the last quarter with 18 guys in our back half. Then we snaffle a goal with 40 seconds left and setup at the next bounce with a normal structure? WTF! The call had to come from the coaching box to the runners to get ready before Howe had even kicked the goal.

Well if they get updated for that, surely they could have been instructed to send players back in the midst of celebrating Howe's goal? For the 2nd week in a row, the buck stops with Roos.

It is pretty obvious we lack any form of decent on field leadership. This is not just the last play, we lacked any intent in the last quarter to win the game and instead players were looking for someone else to do it for them.

Finally BRFE You have nailed it Thats why they hand pass nobody takes responsibility

If I played for MFC i would probably hit some of the players watching their play. Would just frustrate the hell out of you until you gave up like some already have. Its a disease.

With 30 to 40 seconds left and just as the ball was sailing through from Howe..... Jones, Crossy, Garlett, H and others should have been screaming for everyone up forward to get back and leave only Jeffy and the sweeper goal side on either side of the bounce.

Whatever the structure it should have been a set play for the team and AUTOMATIC structure, albeit a frantic one.

No excuses, either the players stuffed what should have been a set play....OR Roos hasn't instilled or drilled this into them.

Only the players/coach will know which one it is but regardless this is school footy stuff that no other team except us could have stuffed.

Can only see 2 more plausible, but unlikely wins for the year (as they are SO mentally frail as a group) and funnily enough that's against the Saints at the G in 5 rounds time and the Blues a few weeks after that.

I'm not even going to bother watching the rest. If we can't get over the line versus a saints line up with about the same inexperience and even more sub 50 match players than us, then we will have major problems against pretty much everyone else.

Looks like we will be fighting it out with the Blues and possibly Brisbane for yet another spoon.

The problem was the Gawn tap. I thought Gawn's tapwoprk was terrific and apart from a few spilt marks which were costly, he played a good game.

That said, his tap with 41 seconds to go had to go straight to his feet and just lock it in again and again. Roos will be so disappointed with a highly offensive tap out the back which Steven was able to run onto.

So So disappointing

BUT

These players have not experienced how to win a close one and don't really know how to respond to pressure

I think that this is the next most important learning curve for this team

I heard the commentators saying the Melbourne players were emotionally exhausted

I hope Roos got them and told them this is what they have to get used to

Every stupid mistake can be overcome by an extra effort

I would like to see more intensity and pressure at training to instil and reward the good actions

Yes this is really the beginning

If they choose it but it takes real team committment

It will be interesting to see what happens now

This is your answer...Not the coaches box

The coaches have a clock in the box. The bench knows exactly how many seconds are left.

Infuriating pathetic loss. Poor leaders. Poor coaching. This club is beyond far ked

The Saints were walking wounded.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
