I've fed the lads and sent them off fox squashing. Now considering a moderate investment on sportsbet.

Lunch with Biffen will probably be its usual costly disaster so I'll be in need of a dees win to lift my flagging spirits and bank balance.

I wish you the best of luck Bbo but keep the investment modest

I want to see us kick more goals than last year.. 3 goals for a game including one being kicked in the opening minute is not a fun game to watch. Surely the inclusions of garlett and hogan plus our faster ball movement means we can kick a better score

Also a big night of tv afterwards - roosy on 360, Tmac on the couch and jones classified?

Typical Melbourne.

I thought you'd be a bit more on the optimistic side, Bitter, considering you were contemplating a modest investment.

It wouldn't be modest if I was feeling optimistic. Freo's shellacking also damaged my available gambling funds.

Fair point, Bitter. As for your lunch with Biffen, are you sure he'll make it? Nobody seems to have heard from him this morning.

Great initiative with the Neale Daniher Trophy for best player today.

Pray a demon wins it (though not sure who might do that).

Who said they heard Pendles was going to miss, is this still the case?

Is it the same poster who said Boak was going to miss last week, then said that he only had one good eye?

Ever since the tradition of the Queens Birthday game against Collingwood began, this fixture has been seen as a milestone game for the season.

It's situated at close to the half way mark and the Pies have always been strong contenders who don't take kindly to a lack of success so it's usually a good measuring stick as to how we've been traveling.

Unfortunately, we've been so abysmal for so long that it's taken on the appearance and the feel of Groundhog Day except for 2010 when we thought we had broken through.

Five years later, we're still waiting ...

Well im looking forward to it. I was reading the age where they had the story on the Wiz's 9 goal 2nd half. What a great day that was.

I just hope we play hard and put on a great show and win. I have given up a days work and good penalty rates to attend today.

Id love to see Mxy play well, Hogan dominate and our midfield get on top and cloke has a shocker.

The trophy is an interesting one. I guess because the game and the event with raising money for MND is today, but I would have thought if they were going to do a trophy it would be a melbourne essendon game as he had a connection with both clubs.

anyway lets hope Neale is back next year to present it.

he's busy collecting donations for mnd around st.kilda

not sure how much will end up in the coffers as he has pretty high overheads

but he'll claim the full tax deduction anyway

Fox Footy is currently showing the 2010 draw. Basically no one playing in that game is still around for us—and I'm not just talking about our veterans; all our youngsters have been delisted.

EDIT: And now they just crossed to Dean Bailey in the Coaches' Box :(

Would like to think H will play his best game of the year against his old club!

Hasn't looked motivated yet so this game might kick-start his season. I hope.

You must have missed the first round LH

Doesn't matter. They won a bloody premiership between then and now.

Today is the first queens birthday match I've missed in 7 years. I've never seen melbourne win, the closest I've seen was a draw. I remember having a good feeling turning up in 2011 when we had a run of good form leading into the game and Collingwood had a few players out, only to be beaten by 15 goals. I sat last year with the family of 2 of our current players and watched perhaps the most boring game of footy I've ever seen. If it wasn't for work I'd be there again, but I am sick to death of waiting all weekend to watch this game and hope we put in a fight, only to get steamrolled. With the events leading up to today, and Neale having his input at training etc, the players owe it not only to Neale, but the rest of the supporters who have put up with so many mediocre performances on this day over the past 7 years.

The windy weather won't help with our poor foot skills and if it turns into an arm wrestle I feel we have too many players who can't win 1 on 1 contests compared to Collingwood. Collingwood look quite tall with 2 rucks and white which could lead to a late change if it starts to rain early. Really hope gawn shows he is capable, think this is the best ruck combination he could compete against to get some confidence. I'd love to say we are going to win but I feel Collingwood have too much midfield depth for us, which has been the story of our year. Hopefully I'm wrong.

As much as it pains me to say... mid field depth has been an issue for decades

I didn't. He just hasn't been the same in the 8 games since.

That was his 200th game and he really lifted for it.

Just hope playing his old side gives him the extra motivation to lift again and continue for the season, not just a cameo game.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
