Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If we did get yarran, then next year Salem to midfield, Yarran to his spot? Is Yarran any good 1v1?

I don't get why everyone wants to move Salem. He is the perfect half back runner with speed and skill. Yes definitely throw him into the middle for a few centre clearances but he is very valuable currently running off half back.

Yarran and Carlisle are both teases - they do some exceptional things but all too rarely. In Carlisle's case, I just worry about his lack of football nous, because he should be taking 8-10 marks a game with his talent. He makes alot of silly errors. You might argue that Garlett is inconsistent too but even the best forward pocket types have quiet games, it's the nature of the position - and in fact, Garlett's been incredibly consistent this year (perhaps too consistent in missing at least one soda a game that he should kick with his eyes closed!).

I'd rather we go all out for a midfield jet. D.Shiel is the one but I fear with GWS going quite well, he won't want to come to us given that they've overtaken us in the flag window.

I certainly think that success is still a very large issue for players changing clubs as much as $, but I also think that a lot of players are also more realistic when it comes to assessing clubs as well. GWS are tracking well, but so were GC this time last year... sometimes progress can be a little illusory in terms of early season wins. I imagine if either Shiel or Treloar are on our radar we will have been engaged in talks with their management for a while to gauge their interest and if the proposed changes to drafting and academy picks come into play there may be the opportunity to generate a win win situation. I don't know how well the clubs get on, but I imagine that the minute to midnight offer for Jeremy Howe last year was a deliberate ploy. The issue for GWS is they have Ward, Griffen and Scully and maybe Whitfield as their untradeable midfield core. To continue to develop their list (through the gift of their academy) they will very possibly have to give up at least one of Treloar, Shiel or Congilio to get another pick needed to get one of their academy players.

Probably because of that promise and we have a dearth of skilled midfielders.

We also have a dearth of skilled half backs.... Actually a dearth of skilled players everywhere! Just let the guy develop where he is now, he seems to be taking to the role well.

I agree, but he was drafted as a midfielder and should get that chance soon. But for now, let him build his confidence off half back. And his top notch left boot isn't doing any wrong from there either.

In still hopeful he can be like Hodge - a skilful player who primarily plays the distributor role off half-back but is also capable of moving into the midfield and extracting clearances when needs be.

Also lots of talk we are still into Lyons from the Crows.

Lyons is struggling to get a game with the Crows even with the Crouch brothers out injured. Can't see him being anything more than a fringe player like Riley.

Lyons has had the opportunity to leave in the past for more game time and he turned it down. I think he would regret that decision now as I doubt any clubs would be interested in him for 2016 as he can barely get a game.

The thing with Lyon is every time he plays a full game he usually gets around 20 odd touches a kicks a goal or two. I'm not sure why he doesn't get more game time at the Crows, I guess because they have a lot of similar players in Grigg, Kerridge, Van Berlo, Wright etc.

Both Sandy and Jamar were a fair bit older than 23 before they started to dominate, but yeah he would want to show some signs this year and I think he has started to in his marking. He's barely played in the ruck so hard to know there, but if he can sort out his kicking he'd be smashing the door down for a forward spot.

One of the things that would make Max Gawn (and Fitzy and Max King for that matter) more effective is if he could use his big body to impose upon marking contests and ruck contests. Not sure if he needs more muscle or core strength or what it is, but he's certainly tall enough. I get very frustrated watching a 7'8" MFC player getting bounced around by guys considerably shorter than him. Once he puts those big mits up for a mark he should almost be immovable. Sandi and Big Cox were like that at their best.

He's 23, and with the injury problems you'd probably say he was maybe just 21 as far as development age goes, so he's still a few years off peak AFL age. Not sure what height and strength have to do with each other though?

I keep hearing about this late trade of Howe to GWS last year.

GWS offered howe a bucket load of money and offered Melbourne pick 7 for him,

i think we might well have accepted had we had some time to consider it.

As I argued at the time - if the player had a chance to hear the deal then we did agree to it.

Doubt we'll go after Lyons again this year. He's a solid player, but one paced and not a great disposer of the ball who's not getting a game at the Crows cause they have other players that play his role better.

My Crows supporting mates don't rate him much, just a decent depth player.

I think it was Howe for pick 7. I would have jumped at it, myself.

EDIT. Sorry, a little late on that reply.

More of this, then, eh? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FQvyxYLqTw from 2.55. I moved to that end for that last quarter and was sitting right behind it. Clearly (sadly?) I still remember it!

Agreed, and as I have put about 5 times, Howie gave it one second of thought and said NO

Which will look ridiculous if he has an average year, decides to leave anyway and gets less money. If he was so emphatic about knocking back the deal then I'm shocked that he hasn't re-signed with us yet.

I think this is exactly what has to transpire in Roosy's tenure, as he only has one more after 2015. so he has to fast track Spencil, or delist him. hurry him up as he has the aggression, but needs to discover more in himself.

if he shows some more he will get more time... decision time at end of season, with our ruck stocks I think 2 will go, maybe one retires? & one gets the shove.

IF gawn doesn't show some mongrel, on the field, then he can see the same door as JW.... IMO.

I dont know that all top level rucks have "mongrel" some do some dont

Stef m had 20 possessions vs carlton (?) but doesnt have mongrel

Id like a ruck who is an extra midfielder over a straight tap plodder with mongrel

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
