Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Opinion anyone?

Jimmy Toumpas would have done a better war dance than Goodes, Trengove as well.

Adam Goodes gets continually/regularly booed because he is an arrogant, self centred [censored]. NOT because he is of indigenous heritage. If he was caucasian the boos would remain the same.

Come on Song, that's just not true. So I guess calling Goodes a monkey or King Kong isn't racist? Regardless of what people think of the incident with the 13 yr old girl, the boos are definitely related to that. Or should he just suck it up and accept the racist insults, like generations of Indigenous footballers?

You are implying that every single boo he receives, which is literally thousands, are all directed at him because of his race?! Rubbish. Some, perhaps. Most, no. So i guess Ballentine gets booed because he is white? Same with Crowley etc.

Plenty of other indigenous players playing tonight, Yarran, Jetta etc. Are they being booed? No.

As a kid I had big ears and people called me a monkey.

Is that racist or it doesn't apply because I'm Caucasian?

Dunstall gets called the Gorilla. No one blinks an eye.

I haven't been much of a fan of Goodes since I was at a game at the SCG and he snotted Simon Godfrey behind play. I'm also not much of a fan footballers, actors and other "celebrities" becoming Australians of the Year. But that isn't his fault

As for the war dance, it seems fairly provocative at first glance and people will no doubt have differing opinions but it would be good to wait to find out the circumstances that prompted it.

I suspect neither you nor Dunstall have been subject to systematic racism throughout your whole life.

It's no coincidence that it's always the white, heterosexual males who say things like this.

Not sure that link will work, but it sums up my thought exactly. There's has been so many people this week saying the boos are because he was chosen as Australian of the Year and dared to use that platform to bring attention to indigenous issues/concerns. They obviously are happy to be amazed and entertained by indigenous players on the sporting field, but don't want those same people to get a voice and talk about indigenous problems.

I just don't buy it is because of anything he's done or continues to do n the footy field. The game is full of players who play unpopular footy (playing for frees etc), and they get booed occasionally , but the booing of Goodes is at entirely a new level.

And people saying he shouldn't have picked on a 13 year old girl, seriously? He reacted to racist abuse and would have had no way to know anything about the person saying it. 13 years old in no excuse any way.

I haven't followed the Goodes stuff that closely, but who was it that first asserted the booing was race-related and what was the rationale? Unless it is well-founded, I fear there is an element of racism from the person claiming it. Ie. "Adam Goodes is indigenous, thus he is 'different', thus the crowd must have interpreted him as different, hence the booing". It is bizarre logic that I can't believe has gained traction in 2015.

If, say, 5000 Hawks supporters were booing him, maybe 50-100 neanderthals might have been doing so with a racially motivated bent. It's not acceptable, but not illustrative of everyone's motivation. I recall booing him a decade or more ago after he destroyed a Melbourne player from behind in a marking contest in a very poor act. I'd like to think booing is directed due to on-field behaviour but I guess there is no code of conduct for this.

As for tonight, I'll wait to see what comes out in the interview wash-up. Indigenous war dance in indigenous round - classic, go for it. Directing aggressive behaviour towards opposing fans just invites abuse though, and I would expect that if someone does that, they would anticipate and enjoy to an extent the vitriol that comes their way afterwards. Again, I'll wait for the wash-up. Who knows what's been said over the other side of the fence prior to it.

Actually, I worked in Halls Creek for 2 years. I got spat on walking to work, house spray painted and called a white "C" almost daily.

But of course Nasher, that's not racist.

(And I'm gay).

Plays for frees, and is a protected species. Whinges to umpires constantly. Has been a sniper in the past.

Couldn't give a damn what his race is. He seems like a [censored] so I will boo him regardless.

The fact that riled up the crowd intentionally should be reportable, in my opinion. In soccer if a player does that they'll get a yellow card. Deserves a fine, at least.

Great player. Wish we could dig up someone with his talent. He walks the walk and don't care about the talk.

Yep. Those goals he kicked in the 2012 GF on one leg were quite special...

I have never even considered booing Goodes...

Completely different with completely different connotations. Calling Goodes a monkey is racist due to the history of the word for the Indigenous community, that doesn't exist for the White fellas.

I don't buy that he is boos because he is arrogant etc, he is booed because people don't agree with him calling out the young girl and his stance for reconciliation. I don't agree with all he says, but he has the right to say it and to boo him for this wreaks of racial undertones, if not overtones! Essentially you are booing him because he stands up to racism!

Are you that ignorant that you do not know that the term monkey when used against a black person is a derogatory and racist remark?

Have you been living in a bubble all your life Ethan?

Of course it's racist, but it's not systematic, nor is it your whole life.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
