Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

saw it live n just watched replay. Perfect hip n shoulder, probably right on 5 metres from the ball, so it was fair. But yes, it was brutal!

Issue he(Goodes) will have is he left the ground at the time of making the hit, medium/high impact and Jones being forced off. Medical report will play some part also in the outcome

According to Leight Matthews, Hogan has no game when the ball hits the deck.

lThat was deadset one of the most ignorant comments I've heard on air, and not one co-commentator countered it.

I think Leigh Matthews has dementia.

Warning: Rant below

I've found myself increasingly irritated by Matthews commentary in the media.

The first thing is the man's voice - it is high-pitched and inconsequential - like white noise. I must say I routinely ignore his "special comments" because his voice is so pissant and whiny - really incongruent to his reputation as being one of the toughest men in the game's history.

Secondly, though is that he legend status in the game has given him carte blanche to say whatever he damn well pleases - and its not like these utter eunuchs like Hamish McLaughlin are ever going to pull him up on it.

For example, in the wake of Clarkson hitting a fan incident (whatever you're view on that aside) Matthews remark was that the fan was lucky not to recieve worse - this was on that wretched Channel 7 sunday footy show. That ludicrous and irresponsible comment was met with applause and lots of self-satisfied nodding of heads from the invertebrate sycophants in the studio. "lucky not to recieve worse" - are you kidding me, Lethal? What did that fan deserve, then? Broken jaw? A Neville Bruns special perhaps. For a man with a criminal conviction for king-hitting someone he should understand the dangers of such a strike. But he doesn't. He applauds it because all the man has ever known is to belt someone when they get in your way (or even if they don't)

You can imagine if an ex-player held in less esteem had made this comment - a Jason Akermanis for example (who isn't the media but take your pick) - he would definitely be held to account and made to apologise for his remarks. Not Lethal though, noone even batted an eyelid as far as I know. He is beyond reproach and so revered that the guy believes his own [censored] - seems everyone else does too.

Not me too.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest players of all time and arguably one of the greatest coaches too - (although slightly more fortuitous I'd say). But I really wish the guy would just recede into the background - I'm completely sick of him (obviously!)

Sorry, this rant is more to do with the boys club that is AFL media and nothing to do with the game. Regardless, 2 cents right here. ;)

Oh, love you Jesse. Don't listen to whiny Leigh's raspy twaddle.

Wont be that cut and dried this week with

Cam Mcarthy

Liam Duggan and our own

Angus Brayshaw

all staking claims for this weeks nomination

McCarthy kicked one extra goal but Jesse beat him in most other stats including almost double the disposals.

And Duggan had two more disposals with no goals.

Obviously I'm biased but I think Hogan is in with his best chance yet.

Well I said I was looking forward to Pedersen, Watts and Brayshaw playing together on the half forward line

I wasn't disappointed . great game dees now all you need to do is back it up again next week with the same intensity, against Port.

Wouldn't two wins in a row be great right now :)

I just love Daniel Cross. Embodies everything I want our young players to be.

Courageous, hard working, dedicated, team oriented. He is a wonderful role model and I bet will be a great coach one day.

Loved seeing him stick it to his old side.

Probably won't be 'Pennant' but if they lined up all the prospective rising stars against the wall to select a team who do you reckon would be first picked? not a leading question but I would think Hogan by a fair way.

Agree and that is the worry, they have been known before to think he will get another nomination. I'd pick him before any kid at the moment including the Bont. He is someone we desperately need to secure long term 7-10 years because he (Hogan) is that important to the future of this club. We can build a team around him

A few observations ...

  • It almost looked like we'd set ourselves for this game (injuries aside) ... Roos was swinging the changes in the lead up to this match with maybe a view to seeing how our players measured up against those 3 top sides.
  • Some of the positioning of a number of our players would have caught the Bulldogs out - especially the Fitzy move and they may not have seen Spencer as much of a threat either. We ran hard all day which seemed to catch them out unawares.
  • Our tackling numbers and our tackling with intent was a standout feature.
  • We once again looked confident using the corridor as we did with our other 2 wins - Roos may be coaching in a way where he'll up the tempo when he sees fit.
  • Our defensive pressure was excellent ... the Doggies weren't able to break free enough and it was gratifying to see them kick wildly it into their own forward line when they were outnumbered there.
  • The confidence that the players exuded was a sight to see as well - no sign of being shell-shocked from last week
  • Our senior players stood up which would have helped the younger players no end.
  • The win was even more pleasurable when we might have thought we'd cop another hiding (I was a little fearful!)

All in all, a very satisfying performance and augurs well for the rest of the season - we're back on track for at least an 8-10 win season :)

Supercoach (for what it's worth): Hogan 110, McCarthy 114, and I'd say Hoges would have 'sentiment' on his side?

p.s. I had him on my bench after the week off, AND, like a few others on here, traded Vanders out. Lost 10th vs 3rd by 22 but I DON"T CARE.

Go Dees!

I will take the Pies on QB.

When are you going to get on the reality bus OD? Enough of your persistent pessimism. We are back to stay.

Pies are ours. Hogan - 5, Garlett - 4, Pedersen - 3, Howe - 3 plus mark of the year as he plucks one out of the top deck of the Ponsford stand, Watts 32 possessions, Viney destroys Swan with a crunching bump in the 1st quarter. We will win by 10 goals.

I know it's hard to believe but the tide has turned, the seas have parted and one four n twenty will feed all 67,000 fans at the G. The big bloke has signed on. We have a new sponsor!

Something interesting from the doggies:

http://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/video/2013-05-24/bevos-brief-members-message-rd8?camefrom=EMCL_643652_27677850

They send one of these to their members after each game. Basically the coaches brief thoughts on how things went. I'm told it's usually more interesting than this one.

I do like that they didn't see it coming.

As opposed to bagging players to be proved wrong and calling factual errors like yourself Curry? Your chickens roost anywhere but home.

yeah the problem is you get the odd cry baby who gets his feelings hurt and never ever gets over it

100% correct. Jones was open and unaware.

Coward bump. Soft.

Same sort of bump that pretty much ended Kotschike's career....ironically at the hands of Gia.

The bump was fair. Jones had a terrible lack of awareness in the situation.

Not many have mentioned Bernie Vince. Pantsed Bonts who has been on fire this year, held him to 12 average disposals and kicked 2 great goals himself in the last with a lazy 11 possessions for the qtr , 26 for the match. Awesome effort.

On a side note, wed have to be the loudest 30000 crowd in the comp...great stuff today.

Was nice that Vince kicked the virtual sealer after catching Bontempelli with a great chase and tackle.

Goes some way toward countering Bont's great match winning goal against us last year.

Was a super goal, but geez I'm sick of seeing it replayed in AFL promo ads!

It was high. I have no problem with him deciding to bump, but he jumped and hit Jones in the face. He has to go. Maybe while he's resting he can learn how to do it properly.

Won't go,

Bet ?

Won't go,

Bet ?

I'll bet my left nut. He launched off the ground and put his shoulder to a blokes head. The commentators saw it and noted it.

In the old days that was fair game, but now it's outlawed and for good reason. Concussion is the most serious frequent injury in AFL.

I coach an under 17's side and I've got 2 guys out for the next fortnight waiting for doctors to clear them for concussions. They've missed days of school. They've had headaches. Their parents are worried about them. Knees, ankles, broken bones, blood noses aren't a concern. Most parents know bones heal and kids wear the injuries with pride. Concussions are the ones that get them worried.

So you reckon, 100 tackles on a weekly basis is achievable?

The highest average in all rounds so far is 76.5 by the Bulldogs

We are second with 74.1

Fremantle are second last with 54.9

The median for all teams over the 8 rounds is 65.3

On what basis do you calculate that 100 tackles, week in week out is achievable? Or even desirable?

I think the ideal number of tackles in a game of footy is 0. With the proviso being that you win the hit out and clearance, share the ball around and goal and the other team never touches it. Hawthorn always get lower tackle numbers when they play teams like us for that reason.

It obviously depends on who you play/what conditions/what game style they have etc.

For a senior player Roh Bail letting Murphy slip out after he ran him down cold was really poor. Luckily we have guys like vanders and Brayshaw to show him how it's done. Not sure it was actually holding the ball but Vince's tackle on Bont in the last quarter was brilliant.

I love the stat they give out on the VFL stats sometimes on effective tackle percentage. That would be a great one to get. I'd rather 40 tackles at 100% than 60 tackles with 20% more missing.

Oh, love you Jesse. Don't listen to whiny Leigh's raspy twaddle.

It seems as though Lethal has only a casual interest in football these days and makes his observations based on the immediate play and not an overall sense of the player. Hogan is a trick skater! His ground level coordination is superb, not that everyone on this forum doesn't already know how wonderful he is. :)

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
