Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'd much rather the league quietly get involved in getting the club a superstar free agency.

The NBA frequently gets involved in blocking trades etc., and essentially forced Chris Paul to the Clippers after blocking a trade that would have send him to the Lakers (who at the time had won 2 championships in a row).

I actually think that if the AFL bosses are serious about equalisation, this may need to happen. As much as I love Nate Jones, I don't believe we have had a star in the midfield since...... well, many, many years. If the AFL got involved in trade discussions and forced Danger, Shiel, Sloane and Leuie to come to the Dees (for a shite load of AFL subsidised cash, I might add), it would instantly improve our midfield from bottom to mid-table. No point giving us better draft picks, we cannot (wait to) develop them and have shown we can't trade high picks for established stars. The AFL have been belatedly great with bringing in PJ and Roosy, but what we need is a bunch of players who can win games. Sure, it's a team game, and no one player will make us suddenly better, but we are going nowhere without a group of A graders in the midfield.

On the other hand, if the AFL is hedging its bets to see which clubs fall off the perch, they needn't do anything, as it may well happen somewhere in the AFL sooner than we think. Tassie Bandicoots anyone?

If we got all these players, we'd be playing finals next year. No doubt.

Doesn't look like we can win to many more games so I wander if this 'secret formuler' by the AFL will grant us a PP if we win less then 4 games.

Pick 1 and 2,3 or 4 could definitely snag us a star or 2 in trades and set us up

The PP is clearly dead, unless the Hawks have a bad year or two.

how can we ever expect Our players to not panic under pressure, to show composure & belief in the job at hand on gameday, when we panic of the breeze changes direction.

we need to develop our composure under the heat, then we can expect the players to follow that model as well.

it always amazed me how some teams supporters when they panicjkeked their teams players aslso started to fumble & make mistakes.

when the Tigers army is Up & about, the Tiges players grow about a foot taller, & start to play like Tiges of old.

when the Saints supporters start to panic & fear, the team crumbles as well. the atmos-fear created by the fans, cannot be kept from their players.

The players feel it, & if they have any doubts in their own minds, the atmosphere spreads thru the team.

.... we have to also add our steel to the aid of our team, & the players onfield, & there is a place for the bronx cheer, & even on occasions for a ragging, if one of our own in 'the demon jumper' short steps it, let them know it isn't how we at melbourne play the game.

we have to be fair & supportive, but we also have to be stern in what we will except in our clubs colours. like disciplining a puppy, or whatever your pet is, discipline spontaneously at the time is best.... & useless after 6 hours later.

Isn't this just the whole problem that we always want to get a handout.....We are @ round 8 & we're talking priority picks!

Gotta love Hawks supporters bleating on about priority picks. Wasn't Roughead a priority pick?

It proves the system works. We just... [censored] it up. Horribly.

that's right, it wasn't the picks that were our undoing. It was the management of the list, & especially letting the hard workers & club men go, & kept the flashier stars who would not work so hard, or go in for the hot footy head down. no 2 way runners in the list of old stars.

.... this is when 'our soft cushy culture', became bruise free

& this then led to the mortons bennels cooks etc's

This thread needs a priority pick.

Now hang on, this thread will get Mitch Clark back next year and Jesse Hogan debuting...

I know threads need midfields to be good but Trengove and Toumpas will get better and...I can't finish this...

Valid thread, if you think the question won't br raised your in denial.

8 years at the bottom, put in applications for a PP last couple of years and still losing games by over 100 points with excuses that our boys are tired 7 rounds in.

don't want it. Topping up draft handouts has gotten us nowhere except to contribute to a soft culture that may be permanently ingrained,

Wow, I cant believe I actually agree with you on this one!?

Valid thread?

For lowly clubs to have a chance of moving up the ladder fairly quickly I would give the bottom four teams the first 8 picks in the draft.

18th get picks 1&5

17th get 2&6

16th get 3&7

15th get 4&8

For equalization to have any chance of success teams like MFC cannot be at the bottom of the ladder for long periods. It can be seen with us being down for so long how demoralizing it can be with little hope of success in the short to medium term. The last 15 years years and particularly the last 7 have been horrendous. It particularly effects our supporter base as kids don't want to follow a team that does not win games.

i quite like this. Its simple. Also means you can either load up and spend big by trading both. You can use both or keep either. Some useful flexibility.

Is hard now for those in the lowest 4 to get any momentum to get up . This would most definitely help.

Naaah...too easy..never fly :(

Forget the PP.

The bottom four clubs need a salary cap increase x 10% so they have the cash to buy players.

And \ or reduce the bottom 4's maximum total payments to 80% (v current 95%) of total cap so that lowly clubs don't have to overpay mediocre performers and so have more cash available to chase bona fide A grade talent without blowing out the overall budget.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
