Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'd like to see Howe go forward again and Grimes can adequately play his back-line 'intercept' role. Neither have been great, but it's worth a try.

Lord knows I'm no fan of some of these 'ins', but I fail to see how Bail, Jones and Mitchie for Pedersen, Watts, Newton and Kennedy-Harris overly weakens us. I like Newton, but the other 3 have been borderline hopeless. The 'ins' will at least double the possession tally of the 'outs'. And it's not as though the 'outs' don't give it back too.

I can't quite understand the angst.

I can understand Newton, been quite unsighted in the past two games, but at least he can kick a goal and get the ball inside 50

Roos is prepared to drop senior players and bring in lesser players to prove the point

Short term pain just might lift the Culture.

We can win with the attitude

Exactly, Watts has had 28 games under Roos, it's not like he hasn't tried. Problem is before Roos took over there was still that mindset of "under the right coach Watts will excel", that theory has now been put to bed. Time to cut our losses at seasons end, start looking for the next VB to bring in.

Id make him study his own tapes and ask him if this is how he would like to be remembered.

Hold on a minute I distinctly remember him being involved in a verbal altercation with Rhyce Shaw after being subbed in. Edited by Al's Demons

I think we are wanking dc.. I have lost confidence in Roos - WTF is he playing at?

We have a severe depth deficit. Please name alternatives who are currently on our list and available.

B - Grimes - Dunn - Garland

HB - Lumumba - T Mac - Howe

C - Salem - Tyson - Vince

HF - Vandenberg - Dawes - Brayshaw

F - Garlett - Hogan - Stretch

R - Spencer - N.Jones - .Cross

Bench - Toumpas - Bail - Michie

Sub - M.Jones

Not as bad as people are making out and all the wrist slashing is laughable. Would take that team over any team we named in 2014

The team that played Richmond was better.

What does watts have to do now that he is dropped? What are peoples thoughts on what coaching staff are asking of him in terms of a role?

Is it a running wing/flank? Is it a lead up foward? A third tall?

Watts is one of my favorites and I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts?

I'd make him study tapes of Jack Gunston.

How would that help him? The ball is not going to be delivered to him the way it is to Gunston. It might persuade him he needs to leave...

Yes but the website shows Vince in the back pocket and Grimes on the wing? That gets me less excited (as does the concept of Bail as the sub instead of Stretch)

Watts needs some confidence and with all the crap he cops in the media and on social media he is unlikely to get the clear air he needs to build it up. I suspect Roos knows that and is sending him back in the hope he starts to enjoy playing out of the spotlight.

I had more confidence in the Sydney game than the Hawthorn or Freo games. I didn't think we'd win the Sydney game though. My girlfriend and I have been dating eight years now (she's Hawthorn filth) and we haven't won a game against them in this time. I'd prefer to win this game over the Freo or Sydney games. ;)

Do you get a regular check-up?

Despite having many more total possessions, Hawthorn were only even with Western Sydney on contested possessions.

Lewis and Hodge were 1 & 2 for effective disposals at Hawthorn, and 2 & 3 for contested possessions. (behind only Wonky Will Langford).

In fact, 1/3rd of Hawthorn's contested possessions against Western Sydney were through just 3 players; Langford, Breust and Mitchell.

Langford butchers the ball routinely and grotesquely, meaning that at the moment the 'effective contested possessions' job actually falls to just Breust and Mitchell.

Bradley Hill (20 disposals, 90% eff, but just 2 contested), Hartung, Duryea, Suckling and Birchall rely on getting loose, and provided a huge share of the drive out of defensive 50 and into the forward 50.

I'm beginning to see the logic in Michie, Bail, Grimes and M. Jones. If we can force Hawthorn's 'smooth' midfielders to do everything in a contested situation, without the steady veterans to take charge and control the game, they might just bollocks it all up.

I agree - really unhappy with these selections and the selections over the past few weeks. Yeah I know you have to set standards but there's also an element of having played two of the best teams in the comp and just not being up to it.

We need a settled team and for the players to be backed in by the coaches as well as getting experience. Michie should never have been dropped. Newton should not be dropped - he's only played about 10 games! Watts has been rightfully dropped. Howe is lucky to still get a game. Pedersen should not be dropped. Give him Watts' role as the third leading forward with Dawes coming up to high half forward and let Hogan sit back closer to goal or leading back to the empty paddock in front of goal (Pagans Paddock).

The multiple changes the last couple of weeks have a touch of panic about them.

Bail, M Jones, Grimes - three absolute butchers against the team who absolutely kills you on the rebound with their skill. We need to have physical players in this week to pressure the Hawks like we did the Crows - these three will not be doing that.

I don't think you could play Hogan at FF. He's too important to halving contests up the field. Unless of course, Dawes starts taking grabs or bringing the ball to his feet in a constructive manner.

I am fine with the changes.

At least they'll have a crack. They'll work much harder than JKH and Watts, that's for sure.

We couldn't hit targets vs Sydney because they ran both ways far better than we did, and it showed. We'd often go to break to the other side of the ground and there would be 3 Sydney players vs 1 Dees player running into space.

Hopefully these changes address this.

Not sure you could say this about Jeremy Howe. How (pardon the pun) he continues to get games is beyond me. Given Watts has finally been dropped, I wonder whether Howe is next to go if he dishes up another performance of jogging and fading in and out of the game.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
