That St Kilda and Melbourne have pursued the two Jakes so strongly suggests to me that there might be a belief, at least within those two clubs, that the players will be found "not guilty" (I know that's not the actual finding, but I'm sure everyone knows what I mean). I admit its conjecture, but if the clubs had good reason to believe the Essendon players will not be punished, I would have thought not trying to procure Essendon talent would be a dereliction of duty.

nope, i'm not sure what you mean

If the AFL and Ess don't have some agreements going down (poor choice of words) I will eat my Kaspersky.

Are St Kilda and Dees patsies so far. Have clubs received documentation to help Ess out. Something like pick a player reduce the burden.

Can our new player be stopped from playing FOR US or not? Who is running the show for next year?

Our new player may be banned from playing any AFL, not matter the level or team. That includes local comps, VFL, or AFL. It is not a sanction on the club, yet, it is a sanction on the player. They may also be banned from training or having meaningful contact with the club, i.e having training routines put in place. The possible sanctions are not mickey mouse stuff, as much as the AFL would like that to be so.

This has run through my head at times when I'm trying to figure out why a club would take the risk.

No one can say whether or not the EFC players will serve suspensions so for the life of me I don't understand why we would take the risk.

There must have been some pretty serious risk analysis done by us (I would hope), would love to see it.

It may eventuate that what ever Essendon get to help them if they are missing a big chunk of their list will also be offered to clubs with EFC players on their list. i.e. we get to replace him for the suspended period with a VFL player or the like. Welcome back Magner!

I'm sure he is in the benefits column of the risk analysis.

If Jake is suspended for any length of time, is he still entitled to be paid? If so by whom, Dees or Dons?

Definitely not Dee's.

For some cheap laughs, put some phrases through google translate (any language) and then translate them back into English.

Pick 25 for a player who could potentially miss the next 2 years of competition.

A huge risk. I hope a plan B is part of the deal if a verdict of guilt is given

It is a disgrace that ANY Essendrug player was able to enter in to any trade deals.

Means only that Essendrug wash their hands of responsibility one by one....

The AFL already has a suitably opaque policy around the provision of Priority/compensation picks.

The only example they have given is following the death of a player. It doesn't take too much to extend that scenario to a player unavailable for 2 years.

nudge...nudge...wink...wink.....

When in doubt, just copy it to Google search ('the disease worsens with the treatment' - Virgil). If it's not an obscure or vernacular or other expression that escapes the kinds of school level Latin dictionaries some of us still have lying around then Google might at least direct you to some vulgar or salacious site (highly likely where Biff is involved, I presume).

The Urban Latin Dictionary is a real opticus overta.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
