Yes and Tracy Holmes has been one of the worst offenders in the media in pushing the ESSENDON/Hird line, including being the ABC producer responsible for wheeling in Hird apologist academics nearly every time ABC News wanted "expert" comments on the subject. Listening to that interview again, I'm sure she did not realise what she was getting when she agreed to interview Paul Hayes - clearly an authoritative person on CAS and the Law. He certainly shot down much of the line she had been pushing for more than a year now

Tracy was clearly not happy nor I suspect her Essendon master!

...........................................................................................................................................................

Tim Watson and the SEN morning sycophants were in fine form this morning:

Wada appeal to blame for on-field performance

2 DAYS before AFL tribunal handed down the not guilty decision "someone" from AFL suggested to E/dope players they should take guilty plea!

Wada can't win appeal . . . even if they had Caro Wilson, Roy Masters, G Whateley and Tim and Sam Lane on the panel . . oops!

Chip Legrande has a written a really great book on the saga . . .out soon!

also listen for Tim trying to tap dance around a caller who asked "but what were they given" . . .gold!

Edit . . this is correct link:

The Worksafe dilemma would make for a classic 'Yes Minister' episode with Humphrey describing any attempt to actually do the right thing as opposed to 'look ' like one is as a very BRAVE and NOBLE endeavour....Minister !!!!

Finally, the players seem to have wisened up to who is truly responsible for their mess.

They have stopped playing for their coach. Simple!

It is only a matter of time before supporters will be baying for his blood.

The irony is that Hird may finally go down not for the supplements saga...but for his inability to coach!

His incompetence is playing out on the field for all to see.

It will be an even sweeter downfall because at the bottom of the ladder he will have nowhere to hide, no-one to blame.

Hardly a fine legacy:

-destroy the family name (his grandfather was an inaugural inductee to the Hall of fame and given Legend status),

-bring his club to its knees,

-ruin the lives of many of his charges.

Can't wait for his coaching downfall and have that smug smirk disappear forever.

What does it matter who LU supports or even what their motive is. S/He has put forward cogent, coherent opinions based on reading the relevant articles. I have found it interesting to read an alternative view. Furthermore these have been put forward in a respectful and non-abusive manner. Why do you feel the need to disparage LU for doing this?

Irrespective of what people want the outcome to be, we all know that none of the views expressed here will influence the final verdict.

It will however certainly be interesting to bump this thread in due course.

I 100% agree xarron with all of the above, in fact was going to post similar comments so you saved me the trouble.

Well reasoned comments and more balanced than some of the DL regulars. Keep up the good work lu

"the evidence just didnt stack up"

That would be the evidence that they dont have to prove their innocence.

The evidence that would prove that the drugs that were ordered, compounded, and paid for were legal and not the drugs that they were supposed to be.

The evidence that the injections that were reported by his own son to have been administered in large numbers were some benign vitamin supplement.

Oh its ok That evidence doesnt stack up either to any comfortable satisfaction.

I have been guided by their own internal investigator who indicated that "whatever it takes" was a "pharmacological experiment"

While Tim and players may be satisfied with reassurance from the club that everything was and will be fine and that they will be well looked after if anything goes wrong, If thats what they have been told, I am still disappointed that this experiment has not been acknowledged as what it was, performance enhancing drugs in sport.

I hope WADA can enlighten us.

And while Tim, Hirdy and the players, supporters, etc, may want it to go away, until someone, Essendon or the pharmacists can provide some facts it is unlikely to. I do await Danks evidence which he has said from the outset exists and which he has said he will provide to the appropriate body. World Anti Doping Agency should be big enough.

Depends on what he means by 'appropriate'. WADA doesn't pay for the interview.

i supose wada could make a donation to animal rights if he will give evidence

he couldn't object to that could he?

So Daddy Watson thinks that his story that the AFL were trying to cut a deal just before the Tribunal announced its decision proves the Tribunal was independent. Strange that he should bother now.

But if the story is true then it is possible the AFL knew they were going to get off and they were certain that WADA would appeal which would mean the saga would drag on for even longer with a possibly worse outcome. In the absence of facts, wild speculation is fun.

When it comes to an Essendon Supporter spreading their Clubs BS it does matter.

It does not get any lower in sport than having a club sponsored illegal substance program.

Essentially the above has always applied but there are many in the football world including the media who have clouded the issue because of their own vested interests (and on both sides of the argument). The standard remains one of proof to the comfortable satisfaction of the tribunal hearing the case as to whether the Essendon players ingested the illegal substance TB4. There is more chance that Charter, Alavi and even Dank will be compelled to give evidence because of the different nature of the CAS Tribunal compared to that of the AFL. Supreme Court judge Croft ruled against compelling Charter and Alavi because it wasn't a court of arbitration - once they are compelled to give evidence the game changes.

As for Worksafe, don't hold your breath.

Re work safe they are essentially saying experimenting with substances not approved for human use is acceptable practice from a work safety perspective as long as records are not kept and it is in a sporting context.

Imagine if a trucking company had its drivers sign waiver forms, injected them with unknown substance and when caught claimed that they had given the 'good' stuff but could not prove it because no records were kept.

They must be regretting many things at bomber land, the latest letting Thompson go in favour of Hird.

In Hird we have a bust...

James Hird, a cheat or just progressive?

Let's just legalise doping in sport "All concerned are denying any wrongdoing. But why should they have to? Why should the use of performance-enhancing drugs be banned? We should allow all of them. Not just drugs, either: gene-therapy, DNA modification, the lot."

It has so many holes that if it was Swiss cheese you'd have to fill the MCG with cheese for it to weigh a kilo.

Not interference behind the scenes but a case of not really wanting to get involved because of the nature of the issue and therefore happy to leave it to others. In a sense, that also brings in their competence to handle something as big as this - and it is big.

They can't because a complaint has been made by a member of the public. Thye have to run it as I understand it.

Now, why they waited for a complaint from the public is beyond me. Some 12 months after the initial exposure. I would be in jail alread if I did that to my staff.

probably because it just interferes with their overseas "study" tours, jnr

Happy that the ship is listing to one side and the players are cooked.

Their list is rubbish and totally overrated by them. They won't be able to rebuild with the draft sanctions and no player will willingly go there you would think.

The draftees they have taken are now getting to their last legs and I hope they dwell in the cellar for at least a decade. Hird to be rubbed out of all sport for life. And for Tarnia to have that [censored] eating grin wiped from her face.

I prefer to change the AFL rules to state the Melbourne Football Club will be give a 100 goal head start each AFL game including the Grand Final. Wait this is not fantacy land were all you dreams and aspirations come true?

What DH wrote this crap?

Say NO to drugs in sport!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
