Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Changes for Next Week

Viney told me 1 week at training as well, didn't look hampered at all in his running, have a look at the pic on my twitter

I'm sure he did, but it's not really up to him, and given how conservative we've been with injuries I'm still going to go by MIsson's report.

Maybe he meant 1 week til full training, or back at Casey, but given he's listed as 2-3 weeks still I would think it highly unlikely he'll play next week.

Can't be bothered reading the whole thread.

Grimes looks lost and lacks confidence. If you were upfield from him, you would not know what to do or where (or whether) to run..

MacKenzie must be a great bloke. But he wouldn't get a regular game at Carlton (my new benchmark for mediocrity).

Wondering why they don't play through Watts more when he creates options. Do his team mates trust him in a tight contest?

Newton poor today but still has credits. Vanders a steal at whatever we paid. Thought Michie was OK enough in the first half.

How was the first quarter umpiring btw?

Grimes was really good today against Ballantyne, the guy in the 31 shirt right?

If thats the case then take the 6 weeks off.

Health is first priority.

Nev got a decent belt from Dawes at training post Xmas, then he has had a couple of head knocks, he has only really failed the concussion test once, but they are concerned and rightly so, they are monitoring on a daily basis, including I believe a couple of scans, with the Roh Bail and Viney issues in the past, they have a good handle on it now, they sat him down because of the prior head knock last game

So now your saying you want to drop one of our most skilful and loyal players, that's a change of tune from yesterday.....

It was actually today. And what does loyalty have to do with being dropped due to poor form?

Which one of his 12 possessions at 66% efficiency in 83% game time. But of course McKenzie, with 9 in 42% game time and 78% disposal efficiency is definitely out. Don't let the facts get in the way of your bias.

Reality is we are embarrassed with options for those to drop. Newton was found wanting today and has been disappointing so far this season.

That's a perfect example of how pointless the DE stat is.

One of McKenzie's so-called 'efficient' disposals was his handpass to Jamar in the centre square. When Jamar was flat footed, standing still, and not calling for it. The result of that handpass was Jamar having to shovel it away to whoever was near him, causing a turnover and a Fremantle goal.

I don't care what McKenzie's DE was (nor anyone else's, for that matter). Watching the game, he provided nothing to the side at all. That's the same trend he's been on for the last few years, nothing today indicated any change from that (we only need to go back one week to see a sub come on and show improvement on the previous year).

A midfielder who gets 12 touches and places limited defensive pressure. Looks good when he gets it but doesn't find the pill enough.

He had a very ordinary game today, but he deserves another chance to show his wares next week.

Out: titanic deck chairs

In: titanic deck chairs

Not the way Roos operates though.

What a load of rubbish. He's been hitting the scoreboard all year. Yes, he needs to get more of it, but you could say the same thing for our entire midfield.

And you love those McKenzie glasses of yours. He can't kick, he's too slow and he doesn't read the play well. The reason for his high disposal efficiency is because he takes the easy (disposal) option every time. I love Jordie's endeavour, but if we're serious, he'll never play again.

Can't read through all of this for sanity preservation purposes, but everything about McKenzie playing today was bizarre. Why play him if he's going to wear the green vest? To come on and tag someone for a quarter or two? I was puzzled by his inclusion on Thursday but assumed Roos had some master stroke tagging role for him, but alas. Strange stuff.

Agreed. There's obviously something we don't know going on at play. I'd love to be able to understand the thought process though.

Would have fathers blood stretch as the sub

Doubt it will happen

First year player, 2 VFL games under his belt, and no game yesterday

Sitting him as sub next week would mean two successive weeks without a full game - not in the interests of his development

I wonder if playing in the ruck re-agrevated Dawes' calf last week? in the ruck you need to jump which dawes rarely does, he wrestles the majority of the time (so a more unusual movement for him etc). So even if he is back/not back, id bring in Gawn either way (prefer him over most of the midfielders at Casey). Furthermore, Clark monstered Pederson (not his fault that clark is very athletic) and tippet is a lazy 200cm and could do the same. Even though Gawn hasn't been in the best form in the VFL, he is getting lots of opportunities (7 shots at goal last week [or week before for 1.6 & 1 out on the full], & i think its was 3.1 this week).

Plus if he comes in we can get some more structure up forward with Gawn, Hogan and Garlett. We lose out on forward defensive pressure, but how much did we have this week? (did we start the game with a spare in defence? i really liked the first 3 rounds playing 1v1, not sure why we let freo have the spare - 100 uncontested possessions more at 3QT to freo pretty much summed up who won on that decision).

Likely Outs: Salem (concussion), if i was to drop anyone it would be McKenzie (really looked like a dear caught in the headlights - didn't want the ball, didn't want to run with the ball (just not how he plays), and when he did run with it (last 30 seconds) nearly kicked it out of bounds with Garlett leading 20m in clear right at him [probably different if he had of kicked it, but he didn't]).

Really happy with Grimes' game. Watts confuses me, maybe have him as sub (that way we dont have a mckenzie as sub situation).

Watts to Sub. McKenzie out for Gawn. No idea who comes in for Salem (seems he & Jetta is likely to miss another)?

Rough team (jetta back would be perfect for that spot):

B

  • Colin Garland, Tom McDonald, Jeremy Howe

HB

  • Christian Salem____???, Lynden Dunn, Jack Grimes

C

  • Heritier Lumumba, Bernie Vince, Daniel Cross

HF

  • Jeff Garlett, Jesse Hogan, Jay Kennedy-Harris

F

  • Jack Watts, Cameron Pedersen, Max Gawn, Angus Brayshaw

Fol

  • Mark Jamar, Nathan Jones, Aaron Vandenberg

I/C

  • Dom Tyson, Ben Newton, Viv Michie

Sub

  • Jordie McKenzie Jack Watts

Not everyone who has concussion misses next week. Salem kept playing then felt unwell according to Roos. Might mean later onset of a mild concussion, and if he doesn't have a history of head injuries he might be fine to play.

I sure hope he doesn't miss because our kicking skills dropped by approximately 58% once he was subbed off. Plus he's having a great season and it would be a shame to break his continuity.

Won't happen Clint, you know why? His timing was perfect. Wasn't late, wasn't a fist to the head, just a hard, "don't come back in to my space" contest. Other than Hogan, we don't' have anyone that hits a contest legally with no intent on marking, but plenty of desire to hurt someone.

Think it was Dunn that cleaned Walters up, wouldn't be surprised if he goes (front, head-high contact). Pav got knocked out off his own doing.

You go in to half time and they are two players down, you make sure they go in to 3/4 with at least another player/rotation down, if not no interchange at all.

Yes it was, that's why he got a 50 metre (35 metre) penalty.

Will Dawes even be available? He must have done his calf on Friday afternoon. Is 8 days enough recovery? I doubt it.

I've seen a few people include Riley in their 'Ins'. Not sure that he's any better than McKenzie. His decision making last year was worse.

Bail will need to come in, need some sort of speed. Fitzpatrick would love for him to come in, Dunn playing on monster Forwards is not fair on Dunn.

Line up

Grimes MacDonald, Fitzpatrick

Dunn garland Salam

H. Jones Vince

Bail Pederson Howe

Garlett Hogan Dawes

Jamar Michie Brayshaw

Tyson, JKH, Cross, Vandenburg

Out Watts, Mckenzie, Newton

A number of posters have suggested JKH returning to Casey to learn not to try to finesse so much. I doubt going to Casey will help with that. At Casey he'll have more time, continue to take too much time to make a decision but get away with it. I see him doing what Nathan Jones did in his first few years - just trying to do too much. I would have thought the best place to learn to take a quicker option is in the pressure-cooker environment of the Firsts. We'll have to put up with him getting caught quite a few more times yet, but the end result we should be looking for is likely to be achieved more quickly if he remains in the seniors.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
