Someone comes up to you and starts berating you for being bad at your job. He's so close that he is bumping you and you can even feel his breath on you. You feel intimidated by him. You ask him to move, not once but three times, and he doesn't. What do you do?

Completely with Clarko on this one.

But he did touch him

Invaded his personal space

Sorry, didn't realize invading his space meant he actually touched him.

If it were Paul Roos he'd turn the other cheek and make wine out of water.

While I wouldn't say Clarko did the right thing, his reaction was reasonable given the circumstances. The vagrants who harassed him should be the ones answering for their actions and not Clarko.

Redleg - the point is Clarkson didn't hit him and I think his response was appropriate. I think a light shove is proportionate and warranted given the circumstances. As a society we should be questioning why a group of drunken adults are harassing a person for no valid reason, not whether a light shove could cause personal injury.

I don't want to be seen as an apologist for hoons. Their behaviour started the incident no doubt.

However the issue was whether the response was appropriate. Some on here advocated knocking the bloke out and saw no problem with that. I disagree with that and incidentally, so does the law.

It was reported that Clarkson punched the guy in the neck and grabbed his throat.

I then saw the vision and that appeared to be the case.

The version now seems to be he only pushed him away. If that is all that he did then that is fine.

I was arguing against punching the bloke and even knocking him out, as some advocated.

he certainly got bumped. The drunks knew what they were doing I have no doubt.

Why are the aggressors allowed to prevail?

Yet another overreaction from an angry little man! Brings up two issues!

1 Protection of coaches to and from arena and ground

2 The again out of control coach who seemingly cannot control his temper!

Who said they are prevailing.

All I am saying is the response has to be reasonable.

Next time you are drunk and yell near me and hassle me, I will knock your block off. You of course will be happy with that, as you won't prevail.

BTW, I love this line " the drunks knew what they were doing I have no doubt". You are a special human being, to be able to know that.

Angry little man!!! I always laugh at this dumb comment.....what has size got to do with being angry? Besides your dumb comments, I am with Clarkson on this. No one should have to put up with drunks who hassle people. The wankers should have the phones shoved up their collective backsides. Tossers!!

Alistair Clarkson is a Senior AFL Coach. As I said READ MY COMMENTS

1 The AFL need to ensure spectators do not go anywhere near coaches at any stage!

2 He has shown himself before to be not able to control himself when things are not going his way!

He needs to be beyond that as a role model he owes it to himself, his club and the league!

He cannot seem to do this!! As for the "Angry little man" well he aint exactly tall!

As for dumb comments doesn't matter what size you are pal your comments are the dumbest!

Led the Channel 7 News

Which goes to show the quality of commercial news in this country - over 2000 people have died in an earthquake overnight and we have the Clarkson story leading our news bulletin? Terrible "journalism" on the actual story - they interviewed to a mum who had her son killed by a king hit. There's no way Clarkson's action was anything like a king hit and for Channel 7 to suggest otherwise is a disgrace.

I would much rather look up to someone who stands up for themselves than a man who lets others walk over him. Maybe your definition of a role model is different to mine. Edited by M C

How about showîng some respect to the coaches and let them do their job in a safe working environment! Imagine if that was happening to Roosy, good on you Clarko that a s s hole deserved it.

I am not a fan of bringing the 'One Punch Brigade' into this.

This was not an assault of someone unknowingly, it was harassment and the consequences of harassment if someone reacts poorly.

To equate this to someone king hitting a kid from behind at 2am in the morning in the city is below par.

Fair call Redleg - I agree that punching the guy or grabbing him by the throat would have been reckless. A light shove says back off, anything more is really only escalating the situation and risking injury. I thought Clarkson was reasonably measured.

That's why bullying and harassment at work is taken so seriously these days because people react to it in all sorts of ways, some violently react and some take their own lives from it, so let's see this one as Clarko standing up against bullying and harassment.

Clarko got set up. Hence the phone footage that these thugs now want to sell.

It's only an issue because of attitudes like yours

No wonder coaches get paid such huge wages.

YES the world is full of wannabees and morons. Clarko should have knocked himout .Why does anybody have to put up with this shite

Thats why these morons keep doing it because of all the apologists out there. Clarko just shouldnt have to put up with that behaviour and the moron prevails again.Just great and it encourages more morons

Look we all know that Clarko has a bit of a short temper, but you just lost, just wanted to get back to the hotel room and from what Chris Fagan said they followed them over the bridge and kept hassling Clarko for a photo even when he had politely declined. Fagan said the phone was already set to the camera so they were looking to stitch him up big time.

Whats worse then they sent it to every media outlet.

Its like a few years ago when a boy went up to Dean Brogan and called him a [censored] to his face then wondered why he got a whack in the mouth. I mean you just wouldnt walk up to a random person and do that.

There are just some silly people out there.

No, the morons don't do it because of Demonland apologists, they do it to get the stupid reaction they got, which then gets the incident on the news.

Would we be all discussing this if Clarkson told the moron to F off and simply walked away?

They would have no fame if Clarko hadn't punched the guy.

I can see the defence to assaults now, this guy annoyed me so I hit him.

If you think Clarko had the right to hit a bloke who hadn't touched him and was clearly a drunken moron, you are dreaming.

What if every player did that, in similar circumstances?

Would Roos have reacted in the same manner?

The guy had been following him verballing him for 40m, Clarko pushed him away and the guy comes right back in his face,

Who knows what the drunken clown was going to do.

Those who are preaching that he should have walked on and ignored him are way off the mark. Clarko can be a tool sometimes but this time he was well within his rights.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
