Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Look... Everyone has all the right to be cynical and look at the possibility he is leaving after putting contract talks on hold.  But realistically, if my manager said to me in my current place of work "Hey mate. The CEO wants to keep you in the office.. Here is 5 years for x amount. Now.. You can sign that now and stay on or see out the year and have the opportunity to make even more money and sign an extension then."

I know what I'd be doing.

Some of your neuroses are showing again people.

If we want to keep players of his ilk then acting like he will leave will not help.

He has 2 years left FCS.

Some of you are so effing embarrassing...

Start winning some games and offer him his rightful amount and he will stick around to play with the talent we have surrounded him, and he has bonded, with.

PS. I have talked about this previously but the AFL salary cap is about to have the biggest jump in history - FYI.

Read into that what you will, or just continue to hand-wring.

Couple of things here.

1) most of the big blokes that have left their respective clubs have started negotiating with their club's-to-be a year out from being uncontracted. Two years in this day and actually is more akin to one year.

2) he was presented with targets the club had to reach under Roos and we hit them. There's also clear wins to loss ratio improvement.

3) yes, the salary cap is going up, but Hogan's manager would have known that months ago. He would be negligent not to. Yet, still, Hogan's management sat down and listened to deals at the end of last year. If their intention was to wait until the salary cap jump (that they knew was coming), why did they string us along with negotiations late last year?

4) you can't seriously think we didn't offer him the rightful amount of money. We offered him oodles. Even with salary jumps, we won't be able to offer him more than $10 mill over 10 years.

the Colonel has 2 years to run on an already extended contract.

2016 is an important season

if the Team plays well and Jesse  does his bit this year he should sign.

If 2016 is a bad year, why would he want to stay?

time for the club to stand up...

True - but he did already agree to sit and discuss - why then the need to close shop and so Nah, don't wanna discus until the end of the season now.

We'll see, if he tries the same thing after the CBA has been signed then he's gone. I'm just jaded now after going through the Scully and Clark debacles. If Hogan does leave it will be such a giant kick in the nuts for this club it would set back the work that's been done since 2014.

I've said this type of thing before and I'll say it again.  If he wants out at some point then so be it.  I don't care.  We should be well compensated.  Enjoy him now and don't be jaded.  A lot of sad negativity on this thread.  Really sad.   (ie.  sad supporters)  cheer up y'all.  I'm [censored] pumped for round 1!

Cloke held out and scored a massive 4-5 year deal which ends this season. Other than that 0.

If we're getting jumpy before this year has even started, should be totally suicidal 1/2 way through next year.

Unlike some people who have left clubs , would be hard to 'just go along quietly' for a couple of years and I don't think he's that sort of kid anyhow.

He has already shown commitment to us previously and very much  looking forward to watching him go this year.

Go for it Hoges.

If he does go it will be the biggest Hogan heel turn since Bash at the Beach 96

I can see him doing that in the last game of 2017 - he strolls into the forward line, looking to help out Weideman and a resting Max Gawn, to the cheers from the Demon faithful... before he low blows Gawn, hits a leg drop on a stunned Weideman and embraces a laughing Hayden Ballantyne and a giggling Nat Fyfe.

1. 2 years is 1 year? Ok, then. How do you argue with that?

2. Hearsay. And what targets were those? Coz they wouldn't have been stratospheric if we 'hit them'...

3. Hearsay that they listened to deals. Hearsay that they 'strung us along'.

4. The salary cap will (in my estimation) jump $3m. That is how big the TV money increase can easily handle. Hogan's 2015 was a taste of what he can bring, and if you think that a million a year is a good deal for him for his peak years (and there will be plenty) then you are not reading the tea leaves properly. He is worth ~10% of the cap right now (that is $1m btw), if he stays being worth 10% in 5 years that would mean he should be paid $1.7m. To sign a (crazy) long term deal is not in his best interest.

Spot on. The argument that his management is waiting till the salary cap increase goes through is bogus. Based on that logic, no player will extend their contracts early, yet just this week, Sidebottom and Talia have extended their contracts long term.

The fact that the club admitted that they sat down with Hogan and his management to outline our onfield ambitions is concerning. If a player was content, why the need to give them a reassurance? My concern is that Hogan may love living in Melbourne, and clubs other than Freo may come into play.

So we know contract talks are on hold let's start talking to Brayshaws Viney, Petracca,Oliver McDonald's management teams and sign these guys long term. I would offer Brayshaw +3 years Viney same Petracca 4 years Oliver +2 McDonald whatever he wants also Salem and Tyson+3 get the pieces of the puzzle in place. Maybe drop a couple more years on Goodwin as well

The Ox in the Age today says he thinks he has been offered an option of a 3 or 5 year contract for roughly a million a year and yet he has asked for more time and they have thrown up the new TV rights agreement whatever it is called as playing a part in their thoughts. Yes this may increase total salary caps at clubs but really what game are they playing? I don't think it is about money. Either he is off to WA or he is waiting to gauge our improvement as a side before comitting.

Either way modern footy shytes me, as a minnow club you know if you uncover a talent, it will now be a battle to keep them.

Still got 40 plus games MINIMUM as an MFC player.

Media have given this far too much oxygen. No wonder Hogan has put off talks when round 1 is just around the corner.

Feck me.

I'm just scarred and damaged, PD......scarred and damaged.

You have the ability to compartmentalise.

So many supporters here not reading the tea leaves...

He doesn't want to live in Perth (yet), so dismiss the "go home factor"

He's "loyal" - a point his manager is keen to point out

He only extended his last contract 18 months ago

He's only got one season under his belt

With two years still to run he and his advisers think another year to show his wares (and confirm that the Dees are on the right track) makes perfect sense

There are many players on the list (Harmes, Kent, JKH, Tom Mc, Petracca, etc.) that he is very close to and player relationships is one of the major reasons players don't go

He's well aware of his importance to the team and would feel a real responsibility to help make a difference - it might be different if he was 26 and had already given plenty of service

I'm very relaxed about the situation.

I think the club off field has done just that, it's time for some of the so called senior players to follow suit.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
