Ok let's pump Watts up...

He's the most loyal player at the club

He is out most reliable player on the park each week

He does the non negotiables of footy each week

He is the most skilful player on our list

He is the hardest player on our list

He is worth 700k a year

He is the opposite to bruise free football.

I'm done.

Relax HL....it's a debate on footy. Opinions will differ and that's okay.

I was so frustrated with JW a couple of years ago, but then I realised that he was really, really, thrown to the wolves.

I think his next 100 games will be fantastic.

What's amazing about Jack Watts is that for all the coaches and changes in leadership in his career he is still in the team. Love him or hate him people whose job it is to coach and list manage (a list that has him on it) still believe in him.

If they remove him from the list I will ridicule him till kingdom come. If he is removed from the 22 I will question his effort and work rate like many do. But right now Roos and Co believe he is doing the job they want him to do.

So whilst he is in the Red and Blue and in our 22 I will support him.

Congrats Jack on your 100th game.

"I think the beauty of it is, he has so much footy ahead of him to change people's perceptions. If the perception is of unfulfilled talent, or doesn't work hard enough, he has ample time because he is good enough," Lyon said.

"I would say he has got to complement his God-given gifts with energy. That's what I just want from him - energy. Energy around the footy, energy in the contest," Lyon said.

"If he can complement what he has been handed, with some energy and work rate, he'll be a terrific player.

Salient comments from Lyon and no different to my concerns over his output. Despite protestations here, Watts doesn't work hard enough. He has the talent, but he'snot making the most of it. Some see it and some either can't or won't. Some do, but still won't hear a negative word.

I don't respect Watts' talent. Why would I ? He was born with it. He didn't earn it. It's what he does with that talent that's worth applauding or otherwise.

Some of us say nothing more than what is patently obvious to anyone that has a clue about football, yet so many here take it personally. Watts has so much more he's capable of giving. Many of you just don't realise it.

Not sure if you can read PD, but Lyon said "if the perception is..." which basically renders your entire post baseless (like the rest of them) and makes it a seemingly very personally influenced opinion.

Are you Wattsies BF???

Let me guess... you and Frosty are one in the same? I suppose the sorts of responses the two/one of you put up, are to be expected when you can offer no sensible argument.

Cant believe people still stick up for him

Just a terrible footballer who after 100 games still doesn't have a crack

Posted

He'd wanna get himself into the game, can't defend this effort

And getting the Bronx cheer in his 100th game, lol.

Can't question the blokes effort, contested ball machine.

I try to keep a level opinion on Watts but lean toward not being enamoured with him. However, today's performance brings only one word to mind - insipid.

Posted

This is why he will be useless in Finals footy too

That's not something to worry about for a while, probably beyond Watts' career span.

A day to forget for the lad id think.

Ive already started trying !!!

It's taken me a while but I've finally started to see the positives other's see with this kid.

Really smart footy, played rope a dope, for the first half didn't go near it, just sucked 'em in, let a midget out-mark him early, all the while planning his counter.

I started to worry half way through the 3rd, then BOOM! His first tackle for the game, holding the ball! Here we go!

But I think he went a bit early, so he waited til the 4th quarter, right on the edge of junk time and who gives a [censored], he goes bang and gets a couple of marks and a couple of possies.

Sublime effort, can't wait to see more.

Pass me some humble pie, I've been dead wrong about this bloke.

Oh yes, and the team played soooo well...

Fmd.

Of course not, but this is a thread (one of many) specifically about Jack Watts...

Im not gonna hold back. Send him back to Casey until he completely bangs the door down.

He was pathetic, insipid and soft. Respect him for what he does off field but its the real stuff he gets judged on and today his confidence is shot.

He has his supportes and good on them but he is a major major disappointment.

Just when I thought this thread was running out of gas, here we go again.

Watts didn't have a great game today. But it was the lack of ball winning by Jones, Tyson, Vince and others in the centre who meant Watts want getting fed the ball.

He needs to learn how to go and win his own ball of the others don't give it to him, and when (if) he does that he will be a star, but for now he is still one of our best users of the ball, one of our best creators and finishers and is miles ahead of the emergencies or others on our list.

If we can get a good value trade for him (a top 12 player or a pick we could trade for one) we'd take it, but until then he won't be delisted and it is unlikely he'll be dropped.

Who comes in for him?

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
