Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?

When was the last time we went through a H&A season without losing 2 games in a row?

Must be a bit of a first for us.

(apologies if this has been posted before and was mentioned on the last Podcast)

Funnily enough, 1964.

So that record has now been broken.

As far as I am concerned the Curse is dead, I am not sure whose footy boots got burnt in pagan offering, but it has worked.

My reasoning is thus - Has anyone else noticed that Essendon and Carlton now play like we used too? Occasional flashy attack but so often shooting themselves in the foot and not winning when expected and with everything to play for. It is particularly Carlton's insipid performances that make me feel like they have taken over our role as class clown.  Gives me great joy - Win or Lose this year we have become a consistent team, make sure the next time you go to curse millennials (for what ever reason (usually being young and bright) you remember it is they that are removing 56 years of mediocrity.

If the Bombers and the Blues go a few more decades without winning a flag that would be just fine by me. Would give us time to catch up and take our rightful place on the throne with 17 flags. Hopefully we can start making inroads over the next few years (weeks?)

As we were stuck in the 50s for way too long the Blues are still stuck in the 80s. It's great and I hope they continue to be [censored] for a long time to come.

When I started following footy back around 1986, I chose to support Melbourne, a once great, and powerful club that had dominated the AFL for an era.  At that time it had been around 22 years since our last flag and we still haven't won one since.  It's been close to 22 years for Essendon now and Carlton must have had nearly as poor a record from 2000 as we did during the 70s and early 80s.  It gives me hope that these clubs could one day go as long as we have without tasting the ultimate sucess again.

Of course, we still have to nail one in the next few years and there are certainly no gaurentees, but it feels so close, you can almost touch it.

This is what I really want. We are far from it now, but at the end of the day, the most Premierships is true bragging rights.

When i was at school we had 12 flags and i think were equal with Carlton or someone. Well now its many decades later and were are still on 12 flags. Thats the one number i want to change in my lifetime.

A decade of dominance is required now.

We will also attract a lot of new young supporters.

Equalisation measures introduced since the mid-1980s (eg, draft, salary cap) should make it far less likely that Essendon and Carlton supporters should have to wait as long as we've been waiting. Where was this assistance when we needed it from the mid-60s to mid-80s? Once again we've been stitched up by the AFL!

Mind you, Carlton is currently providing a masterclass on being dysfunctional.

Spot on. It’s as though Barassi crossing to them in ‘68 is still their defining moment and guiding star, Jack Elliott and his talk of ‘loving success’ is still the height of football administration wisdom, and that the Party Boys (Sellers, Dominator, Jimmy Buckley et. al.) today could gate crash a suburban BBQ (if there were no lockdowns of course) totally plastered and you’d be highly impressed.

As opposed to telling them to pizz off before you call the cops.

After 6 years and 27 pages, perhaps it's time to summarise where we're at in this thread. We've knocked off a lot of embarrassing records in the last little while, including as recently as last night by being Minor Premiers for the first time since 1964. So what's left? Here's a few, starting with the obvious and with two that are not within our control:

  • 57 years since a Premiership
  • never had a 100 year goal kicker
  • holder of the margin for the largest losing margin (I think)
  • largest score kicked against (I think)

What else?

With the  way the game is played only 1 of those records has a chance to be broken

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
