Richmond being his nominated club says to me that Melbourne went cold on him straight after he said no last year after several attempts.

He struggled with his knee this year and was surprised to see him butcher it so badly during games.

I do have to LOL though that he has picked Richmond considering he turned us down in 2013 due to wanting success at the GC..

Richmond are an absolute mess Dion and i hope you enjoy every bit of that 'success' you want.

I think anyone doing their due diligence in the football department would laugh at paying $700K for Prestia. I'm sure everyone here wishes he'd chosen the Dees, but holy crap, that is an outrageous amount of money for a player with injury concerns. Gold Coast will just point to that salary offer and extend their hand for pick 6, and Richmond will have no foot to stand on saying he isn't worth that much. Clearly he's worth that much to them with a salary offer like that.

Consider that Michael Hurley just re-signed for only $100K more and it hits you how insane this is from Richmond. They are a basket case making recruitment decisions due to pressure from their struggling marketing department and wounded pride over Treloar embarrassing them. The longer they delay the inevitable rebuild, the longer they will wallow in the dregs of mediocrity.

It is legitimately hilarious how Tigers supporters seem to think the likes of Cotchin, Martin and Riewoldt will take them to premiership glory. They are utterly delusional and this recruitment reeks of stupidity (frankly, from both parties -- Sorry Dion, but you've gone from one basket case straight into another, and Gold Coast will soon overtake the Tigers).

Has he chosen Richmond because they were the only club interested in him? It feels like no one else has been that keen on him, which speaks volumes about his price and the injury concerns. 

If we've done our due diligence and believe that money is better spent elsewhere, then kudos to our club for that. 

An injury prone, overpaid midfielder isn't taking the Tigers to the finals, and giving up a high draft pick to do it only stuffs them further. It's classic Richmond.

Prestia wouldn't command a top 5 salary at MFC. He'd be close, and maybe he would next year but not with the kids we have.

You can never have too many A Graders.  Those who say we have too many players of his ilk are being naive.  How many midfield A Graders has Hawthorn had in the last 5 years? Many of them have had to play in alternative positions, but the key to their success is firstly recruiting them and secondly having them play their role which may only be periodically and briefly through the midfield.

I have no idea what we will have to give up for Dion, but once a player declares a destination, the destination club is in a position of power. Why do people think Richmond are paying overs? If they're clearing house then they're going to be bringing in younger players. They desperately need a 3rd midfielder of quality when Cotchin and Martin inevitably don't fire every second match. Apparently the salary cap will be increased so they're just getting in early on the bigger salaries?

Don't forget Cloke. Obviously won't cost a first rounder but adds to the joke that is Richmond.

Yep, the other clubs quickly realised Dion's manager was taking them for a ride. I don't think Richmond are actually in on the joke here -- hint: it's them.

I suspected Richmond would win his services. They are desperate and don't want to hit the rebuild button.

Prestia makes them a better side, but at 700k a season he would need to stay fit and firing to make it worthwhile for the tigers.

Is it possible, for example, that we offered him a stratified "incentive-based" contract where he's paid according to performance, while Toigs just offered him a flat wage irrespective of whether he plays or not? If it's reasonable money, he'd choose us, but if Toigs are offering insane money, then like Scully he'd be insane not to take it.

So, in essence, Prestia is a mercenary chasing a buck? Because if we didn't go cold on him, that's the only reason he joins Richmond.
