We are obviously pretty keen to get Prestia to the club. What do Demonlanders think he is worth? If we were to package up our picks and Howe and/or Watts and/or Dawes?

Posted

Pick 6 and Howe should do it if he is keen to move. Otherwise, they risk losing him for nothing next year.

Did anyone else get excited when this thread popped back up on the top...

Warning. Understand the credentials of a poster before deciding whether to read a thread or not. If it's Chook From Perth, open. Everyone else, don't bother unless the title has changed to "Player X requests trade to Melbourne"

No they don't, he's no free agent at all next year, simply out of contract, so if he wants to leave them it'll most likely be a trade.

Yes..... Stupid me. Pick 6 & Howe would likely be enough, of course they'd want more but if they are convinced he'll look to leave regardless next year it's as reasonable a trade offer as they are likely to get IMO.

If he doesn't sign next year, what leverage does the GCS club have? Very little.

No way he leaves for "nothing" though

Posted

We won't get him this year. GC are losing Dixon and Bennell, and will have ample early draft picks in a shallow draft. They haven't been linked to any big fish, so there's no need to offload Prestia before his contract expires. But if his manager puts off talks till the end of 2016, there's a fair chance he's considering coming to us.

Fair enough. Let's change this to 'very little', potentially.

I'd love to hear an update on his knee, a prognosis of some sort.

no we don't give up P-6.

we aren't well off enough, to give away our chances on elite kids from the draft at this stage. if we 'PASS' on another Stringer, or Wines, then I'm done with footy forever.

Prestia is contracted til next year, IF we cannot tempt a trade for him this season, then we wait til 2016.

O'Meara, we should be chasing, & looking for a trade deal for him as well... but we keep P-6. Trade players, Or a mix of players, plus our 2nd Rnd pick, OK... but don't pass up a Curnow, or such.

All good in theory, but who do we have that WE would give up to get these players? Watts, Howe, Grimes? If so, then GC will laugh in our face.

all good then, let them laugh... we can trade our 2015 Rnd 2 Pick, &/our 2016 1st Rnd pick, &/or 2nd Rnd Pick...

I'd look at a combo of picks (other than this years 1st Rnd Pick), plus players from a list of Dawes, Watts, Howe ;... I'd even trade Gawn in a direct swap for either Prestia or O'Meara. Gawn for Prestia, if that's what it takes.

But I strongly suggest, this year we keep & use, our 1st Rnd pick on Curnow &/or Weideman. That is, we take Curnow, or we swap picks with GWS for their Pick 9/10 (Dees P-6 + player y > GWS... GWS P-10 + player x > Demons).

IMO we need to get that Key Tall/Mid this year, to develop, to be a partner for Hogan; & just in case we are without Hogan for whatever reason, in coming years.

I expect it would take minimum of 2 years to develop a key tall, so now is the year to recruit that partner player.

In the meantime, we should be finding a mature player who can mark & crash packs, unlike Msr Dawes.

Yeah trading a unknown kid for a young proven midfielder is a bad idea...

I try and understand you Dee luded, but [censored] me it's like Alice falling down the rabbit hole.

You refuse to trade pick 6, but you'll happily trade Gawn, leaving us with only 1 ruckman on the list next year being Jake Spencer! Geez, i know which of the two i'd happily trade first.

Would trade pick 6 for prestia in a new York minute! Forget any kids in this draft because they haven't proven a thing at AFL level. Prestia is a gun!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
