Don't think anyone really is expecting them to get out of it.

There's always a chance of it not being deliberate, but the chances of them being able to prove that without some really solid evidence would be slim to zero.

I would say it's more a matter of wanting to make big changes in a short time. Misson came to Melbourne and said that the players weren't fit enough and it would take him three years to get them into shape. Three years later and we have only three players not training on the eve of the season and all of those are long-term injuries not attributable to fitness. Hird took over the Bombers and noted that they needed to be fitter and faster and tried to do the job instantly with the help of supplements.

What's the relevance? Does NZ have different meat standards to us? I wouldn't think so. Maybe even more stringent.

Though I would put too much reliance on the words of Dank. Seems like a very unreliable witness. I think those comments were more about ensuring Turd was on board with what he wanted to do.

The half life is 36 hours (according to that other poster), which means that half of the drug is out of your system in 36. Usually for a drug to not have an effect it takes 5 half lives which would be 7.5 days and that's when only about 5% is left in your system. How sensitive the test is I'm not sure. A quick google says about a week, but that was on an old site. It might get more like 2 or even 3 weeks. But that also could be influenced by dose. Obviously if you take a full course of a drug you store up more than if you eat one dodgy steak.

I'd say the players in question should be looking from maybe a month back until the test day and if they truly are innocent then they need to be right on to absolutely everything they may have taken or eaten.

I was told about 2 years ago from a source who has Club connections (not MFC) that The Filth & Whorethorn were involved to some degree, but nobody had any evidence.

You can never touch Hawthorn. Apparently they were first on to this diet we are on and on to supplements early. I will say there is a huge gap between supplements and Dank And between clearly legal and possibly not.

The interesting question for me is how many of the players were tested?

Given that the AFL does not have a comprehensive testing program then maybe these 2 were the unlucky ones who drew the short straw.

You can do whatever with pretty much any illicit drug really.

If (and I'm not implying that have in any way taken cocaine) but if they did I'd like to see them get the sample analysed, detect cocaine, collect an AFL strike and fight the ASADA charges.

ASADA are not the police. They certainly aren't the NZ police. If the players have accidentally ingested it from cocaine then it's no different to Michael Rogers dodgy Chinese steak.

The two players will be pushing it if they rely on the dodgy NZ meat story. China, Mexico and some EU countries are the places where meat contamination has been identified as a problem. The 2 years just became 4 years and that ban extends to all levels from AFL to Div 4 Ammos. And you can count the players on one hand who made it back from state leagues and usually they were good and went off the rails (Andrew Krakouer and now maybe Nathan Krakouer).

Admitting to illicit drugs wouldn't finish your career. Tom Liberatore did it and the rumours abound about players at nearly every side. They'd probably get the sack from Collingwood but I'd have no problem taking either of them at Melbourne as long as they subject to regular testing and drug counselling. AFL players taking illicit drugs are stupid, but not so stupid as to finish their careers.

IF they did get it from illicit drugs then they'd be better off admitting to it and proving it by testing the sample than by concocting a dodgy steak story they will catch up to them.

I also did some googling. Clean also used with cocaine by at least one account. If it is ingestable, odourless and not toxic it would make a good packing agent
