Rooming together on NZ camp, no other players testing +ve, 36 hours in the system.....

Need a Houdini act to get out of this.

Don't think anyone really is expecting them to get out of it.

There's always a chance of it not being deliberate, but the chances of them being able to prove that without some really solid evidence would be slim to zero.

I found the following quote interesting at the time, it was in a heraldsun story link posted by someone in the Essendon thread on Danks a few days ago.

Dank said: “I need to use much more placental cells and Actovegin ... West Coast, Hawthorn and Collingwood’s tissues are biologically advanced. We need to change our biology for a little while.”

Essendon drugs saga: How Stephen Dank ran the controversial supplement program

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/essendon-drugs-saga-how-stephen-dank-ran-the-controversial-supplement-program/story-fni5f6kv-1227281669383

Was Danks claiming Collingwood's tissues were more biologiclly advanced due to more than quirk of genetics?

Is there more history behind the scenes than just the two players caught?

That in a way explains some of the resistance from Hird and Co. Though thoroughly guilty, they feel miffed that they are singled out and others get away Scott free. Edited by america de cali

Pin a medal (slight pun) on whoever released this.

Big AFL Meeting tonight I would suppose.

Lots of weeping and gnashing between the protagonists.

Real bum fight...

I would say it's more a matter of wanting to make big changes in a short time. Misson came to Melbourne and said that the players weren't fit enough and it would take him three years to get them into shape. Three years later and we have only three players not training on the eve of the season and all of those are long-term injuries not attributable to fitness. Hird took over the Bombers and noted that they needed to be fitter and faster and tried to do the job instantly with the help of supplements.

What's the relevance? Does NZ have different meat standards to us? I wouldn't think so. Maybe even more stringent.

Unless they were visiting this website http://www.clenbuterol.co.nz/

All i can think of would be how NZ is a gateway for Chinese grown food to be rebranded there to more easily slip into Oz.

The MFC know how that feels tank you very much.

Though I would put too much reliance on the words of Dank. Seems like a very unreliable witness. I think those comments were more about ensuring Turd was on board with what he wanted to do.

The half life is 36 hours (according to that other poster), which means that half of the drug is out of your system in 36. Usually for a drug to not have an effect it takes 5 half lives which would be 7.5 days and that's when only about 5% is left in your system. How sensitive the test is I'm not sure. A quick google says about a week, but that was on an old site. It might get more like 2 or even 3 weeks. But that also could be influenced by dose. Obviously if you take a full course of a drug you store up more than if you eat one dodgy steak.

I'd say the players in question should be looking from maybe a month back until the test day and if they truly are innocent then they need to be right on to absolutely everything they may have taken or eaten.

I was told about 2 years ago from a source who has Club connections (not MFC) that The Filth & Whorethorn were involved to some degree, but nobody had any evidence.

I have always wondered how a team can still be running flat out, Tackling with almost as much intensity as the first bounce deep in the last Quarter..

You can never touch Hawthorn. Apparently they were first on to this diet we are on and on to supplements early. I will say there is a huge gap between supplements and Dank And between clearly legal and possibly not.

The interesting question for me is how many of the players were tested?

Given that the AFL does not have a comprehensive testing program then maybe these 2 were the unlucky ones who drew the short straw.

Posted this on the sister thread but better here:

According to the updated Age article linked above the drug is Clenbuterol
'Clenbuterol is a drug used for asthma that is also often used by body builders as a body sculpting drug that helps burn fat and build muscle. It is this effect of creating leaner meat with a higher muscle to fat ratio that has seen it used in meat production in some countries.
Famously in 2011 more than 100 Mexican footballers tested positive to the drug but were cleared after it was established the drug as used in farming in the country and was often present in meat in the country.'
What's the bet they claim they ate contaminated meat?
By the by i look at the Hun website and there is nothing about it. Love to be a fly on the wall at HWT right about now as they scramble to get some info to report. Beaten to the scoop again

Post on BF saying Brad Hardie says he knows what the story could be but can't say because of lawyers. Someone suggested he was referring to the fact you can cut cocaine with clenbuterol but a quick search on wikipedia suggests its heroin that gets cut with clenb not cocaine. FWIW....

You can do whatever with pretty much any illicit drug really.

If (and I'm not implying that have in any way taken cocaine) but if they did I'd like to see them get the sample analysed, detect cocaine, collect an AFL strike and fight the ASADA charges.

ASADA are not the police. They certainly aren't the NZ police. If the players have accidentally ingested it from cocaine then it's no different to Michael Rogers dodgy Chinese steak.

Really?

AFL strike and getting around a PED conviction maybe (though ... very maybe!), but their careers would be finished.

They're still young, better to lie low, stick with the "we don't know how it got there", cop the 2 years, and come back through a State League or whatever.

Count that one out, Brad Hardie has a history of a big mouth and knowing nothing.

The 2 years just became 4 years and that ban extends to all levels from AFL to Div 4 Ammos. And you can count the players on one hand who made it back from state leagues and usually they were good and went off the rails (Andrew Krakouer and now maybe Nathan Krakouer).

Admitting to illicit drugs wouldn't finish your career. Tom Liberatore did it and the rumours abound about players at nearly every side. They'd probably get the sack from Collingwood but I'd have no problem taking either of them at Melbourne as long as they subject to regular testing and drug counselling. AFL players taking illicit drugs are stupid, but not so stupid as to finish their careers.

IF they did get it from illicit drugs then they'd be better off admitting to it and proving it by testing the sample than by concocting a dodgy steak story they will catch up to them.

I also did some googling. Clean also used with cocaine by at least one account. If it is ingestable, odourless and not toxic it would make a good packing agent

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
