Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

At the time Ball should have been charged with draft tampering, end of story. He refused to speak to other clubs or disclose his medical situation I believe, so given his dodgey groin etc, no one else but the Pies could be sure what state he was in. When the Saints made a stand and dropped him into the draft, he should have been charged and banned for the next year and the Saints should have been compensated with a pick along the lines of compo for free agents. Of course things have totally changed in recent years so I don't think players can draft tamper now, it is all in their favour. Howe chooses the Pies, the Pies know that so why would they want to play ball with us unless we have some power to send Howe elsewhere but I don't believe we do. The player still has a veto on trades.

But to move against that is seen as restraint of trade. I give up it is all loaded in the players favour and the top clubs these days.

Thank you Earl! I agree with you too.

On the subject of the bloody bullshlt "restraint of trade" argument. The purpose of the draft, draft concessions, etc., is to equalize the competition. You can't do that and allow so many players to play for whatever club they want (the powerful clubs)!?! They're opposites, and that should be fine in the context of our sport. A certain amount of restraint of trade should be perfectly legal to equalize our competition. It's become too much about the players selfish needs instead of the sport as a whole.

Maybe it will be done tomorrow. Jay Clark confirming paperwork done for Trealor. As expected, 2 firsts for Trealor and a 2nd. Will that be 2 seconds coming our way for young Jeremy? I'm only interested if GWS want them and third round for Pick 8 and Bugg.

Rob, unfortunately the AFL may seek an equal competition, however incompetently but the courts look exclusively at the individual and their case, their particular situation so the AFL will always be sensitive to player demands. I don't think we can stop this so we need to look at other equalisation measures that have been mentioned. That is more draft picks to the lower 10 clubs each year etc.

If we get two 2nd rounders from Pies for Howe, from Freeman and Seedsman deals and another for Toumpas, we could then swap three second rounders to GWS for pick 8 and Bugg and maybe another pick or player like Tomlinson.

Three 2nd rounders have far more points value than 8, which GWS need for their Academy stars.

We then get Kennedy for our 3rd rounder.

For the cream on the cake, we then give 8 and 6 to GC for Prestia and 3, with maybe another player or pick coming back to us.

You can only try. I would be pretty angry if we didn't at least try.

What chance is there the club are thinking along these lines ? You'd hope they were as some doings to date don't instil a whole lot confidence as yet.

Yes Earl. You know what you're talking about, and I know that the way you say the courts look at it does seem to be the unfortunate status.

I'm not a lawyer (are you btw?) but I was hoping that, under the extenuating circumstances, there might be some legal grounds to challenge that status, giving the clubs & AFL more (and players less) control over what club they play for?

Otherwise the lower 10 clubs can get any number of extra draft picks, give them very few years development, then they're off to a power club by the time they're playing their best anyway.

This j Howe issue is our own fault, most clubs give deadlines for these types of decisions. We let Howe fluff well into trade week before answering

...and tell me which club/s has/have given a deadline this trade period and which player/s have abided by this said deadline???

So Howe has decided he's a free agent and wants to go to the Pies. We've responded and said that this deal is entirely separate to any deal to get Kennedy. That's a great start. Now we just need to stand up and tell them that it's their first pick or nothing. Looking at what has been paid (and offered) for other players, this isn't too far off the mark. Redden went for a first rounder. The Hawks are offering two first round picks for Carlisle. Melksham for an early second round pick. Bennell a first rounder and a swap of late picks. Sinclair swapped for a first round player. Looking at that form, Howe is certainly worth a first round pick as well. All we need to do is hold our nerve and make them pay it.

Then we turn around and offer two first round picks for Treloar

Pick 7 for Howe is just too much. Any chance our pick 43 could be chucked in? Not the world's biggest sweetener though.

Getting 6+7 in hand would be convenient, better than 3+16 if Howe went to GC instead

We could do that, what is the difference between the Howe & Carlisle scenarios? Essendon are looking to deal with the clubs that satisfy their needs versus Melbourne looking to do a deal with the club that suits Howe's needs. Mahoney needs to grow a set, that is the difference.

Mate, I've been thinking since this news came to light, about how to express my frustration at this decision by Howe, and you have read my mind perfectly. Thank you.

I second this. The power clubs think like essedun. We appear to cower, and take it up the ass.

Please M.F.C, change the way we do business, for god sake.

I was thinking the same argument.

Mahoney has said that when they sit down with Collingwood he'll use the GCS offer as the benchmark. Filth need to match it or go very close to it.

The deal will have to be a player because of Treloar and Aish. Pies will have a surplus of mids.

Straight swap for Sidebottom will be fine thanks.

Just read an article the Hun that Collingwood plan to turn him into an 'Isaac Smith' wingman who can push up forward...

Wowee aren't Collingwood in for a rude shock!

W anker..

These are the same people who said Karnezis would be star for them and provide some real x factor!

Why would Gold Coast give us Prestia & Pick 3 for Picks 6 & 8? Unless you also meant to say we'll give them our 2016 1st rounder also? Edited by AngryAtCasey

I'm not sure of the Smith comparison, he doesn't have the leg speed or the leg. Have always thought this is the way we should have used Howe if he was going to step up to being a good contributor.

His downside in this position is lack of defensive pressure and not getting enough ball. The first can be worked on, the 2nd requires a bit more footy IQ than Howe might have.

He is RFA.

Match the offer, no PSD for him, tell him he is traded to GC unless pies give us what we want.

End of story.

who's rfa ? certainly not Howe

He is not a RFA or an URFA, he's just out of contract.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
