Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Fellow Demonlanders, I don't post on here often, but after reading and hearing about the Howe situation, I feel I must,

Who does this bloke think he is? He is not Judd or Abblett. FFS what has he done to warrant all this attention?

He can go to the Filth next door and be just as bad as he is now. Just imagine him and that other [censored] Elliot flying for the same marks while there opponents run away with the crumb while they are still picking themselves up off the ground.

MFC will deal with whichever club he want to go with but the deal will have to suit us so a straight swap for Ben Kennedy wont get it done you Collingwood scumbags.

I am over all these footballers thinking they are bigger than the game and clubs.

There is a name for bloke like you Howe, its Mercenary. get your money and [censored] off.

To be honest, Kennedy and 26 is a decent return for Howe.

Take 6 to the draft.

Get Kennedy from Howe.

Melksham from 25.

Trade 26 for two third rounders.

Trade the third rounders for Bugg and Rosa.

Upgrade Vandenberg and Harmes with our last live picks.

Lovett as a rookie.

Get a DFA for free (if we like any).

Obviously it isn't the draft we'd all love but it's still improving the list.

What I think we all forget is that we just need to keep improving.

Let's say we add some really good role players and the kids improve and we reach 10 wins. Someone like Prestia, who is fit again, is on the market. Chances are he sees that improvement and wants to come over. We might even land someone else too.

We need to remember to take a medium to long term view and trust the FD to take us in the right direction.

We do but we need to keep improving relatively. ITs not good us improving if the premier and those below them improve more.

Free agency has farked the whole system. Apparently in the NFL a player can only leave under FA and go to a team below them. I like that idea.....

With all the talk of Kennedy + the Freeman pick from StKilda... I also would prefer Kennedy and Freeman himself, rather than the pick they get for him. Both players have pace and 2-3 years in the AFL system under their belt. Would take that it a heartbeat.

This also benefits Collingwood as the less complicated their trades, the more chance they have of completing their ambitious trade plans.

(Goes without saying that I would prefer him to go to the GC for pick three, but with the rules as they are, we have to make do with what he wants)

We do need to keep improving; when Roos says the difference in wins and losses is usually determined by which team has the worst 10 players, he's not wrong. Thus as long as we're bringing in players that are improvements on the ones we're losing, it's hard to argue.

BUT.... the competition itself has reached a point where the lowly teams simply cannot, in an 18 team competition, rebuild lists and become competitive with the rate that superior teams can freely top up with free agency now. It's a farce.

It's the combination of:

1. Having to pay minimum 95% of the salary cap despite being awful

2. The introduction of free agency

3. Dodgy as [censored] 3rd party deals

4. The ability to pay over 100% of the salary cap every second season.

Another problem for us was the introduction of the two new teams and the lack of quality available to us. It's the perfect storm.

Adapt or die.

agree, but the problem now is clubs have little leverage with ooc players who now treat it some form of free agency

ultimately a club can only delist the player and let him chose nd/psd and terfeore get nothing/nada/zip

the relinquishing club has little choice if the player digs in

there has been a huge power shift going well beyond just the fa stuff

I totally agree DC. The players have too much power now.

A rule change or 2 would help. One example could be:

When Luke Ball let clubs other than Collingwood know that if they picked him in the draft, they'd waste their pick because he'd sit out a year rather than play for them; Ball was showing absolute contempt for the very purpose of the draft.

There should have been more outcry then, plus a rule change. Such as; had a club picked Ball and he refused to play for them, in addition to sitting out a year, he should have had to give half his following years pay as compensation to that club that "wasted" their pick. The injured club could use and add it to their salary cap.

..because every club should be able to confidently pick whomever they want in every draft knowing their pick will play for them. Anything less is unfair cheating of the draft system for which the injured club should be compensated by the contemptuous player.

With that rule in place, we'd have more leverage with Howe and Collingwood now, plus increase GC or Carltons chance to draft him.

Not only did Ball get away with showing contempt for the spirit of, contempt for the equalizing intention of the draft, but soon thereafter he was elected president of the players union!

The thing I worry about, is this wonderful blue print that they keep showing our players that they want to re- sign.

What have they shown Hogan?

You could be playing with Kennedy and Bugg and melksham

Quick, where do I sign...... Spare me.

Funny how apparently he was off to GC and there was no mention of not wanting to go interstate then he goes on Holliday and meets with bucks who then proceeds to give him an offer and upon his return home his manager suddenly says he doesn't want to move interstate.

Well FMD now that howe has another club interested he suddenly wants to stay in Vic.

U r in the same mould of Scully the scum bag.

At the time Ball should have been charged with draft tampering, end of story. He refused to speak to other clubs or disclose his medical situation I believe, so given his dodgey groin etc, no one else but the Pies could be sure what state he was in. When the Saints made a stand and dropped him into the draft, he should have been charged and banned for the next year and the Saints should have been compensated with a pick along the lines of compo for free agents. Of course things have totally changed in recent years so I don't think players can draft tamper now, it is all in their favour. Howe chooses the Pies, the Pies know that so why would they want to play ball with us unless we have some power to send Howe elsewhere but I don't believe we do. The player still has a veto on trades.

But to move against that is seen as restraint of trade. I give up it is all loaded in the players favour and the top clubs these days.

LMFAO, good luck with that Pies. Hes clueless when he ventures up into the midfield and is lazy as hell.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
