Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Giants offered him 700k last year and have no interest now, shows how serious that offer was

As far as I'm concerned, they were just trying to destabilize us. Sadly, it worked. We tried to get the deal done straight away, making Howe feel like he was being pushed out. Thus, he spent the rest of the year weighing up his options with the expectation he had a $700K paycheck coming in October.

Lo and behold, he got a swift reality check a few weeks back.

Last hour offer by GWS when they knew it would be too hard to get the deal through. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Howe was away on his annual leave and couldn't be reached. Kock teaser offer.

Don't think he will be going anywhere personally. His agent said he feels he may leave but he had not advised him of that just feels he may leave. I reckon the numbers ppl are quoting for his asking price are hugely inflated and whilst he is asking for more as stated by his agent I don't think it's as much as some say.

I think this may just pan out like Dustin Martin at the Tiges last year he will end up re-signing, no real reason other then listening to the agent and Mahoney over the last few weeks.

Would a Bastinac for Howe maybe be worth it? If he wanted to go to North... - Bastinac is 24, played 121 odd games 66 goals.

I'd rather use howes trade pick in the draft, IMO.... or as a part of a bigger deal. Forget robin, if he's played 120 odd games, we better then stick to evens, as I haven't heard of him, in years.

The hatred for Howe on here is putrid and really sick.

Get a grip people, he is a footballer who is clearly being pushed out of his club and he is looking for a another club and contract to secure his short term future.

Why would players want to come to a club, whose supporters behave like this, to a player who has played 100 games for them.

Yeah, I think we need to cool down with the rhetoric; I don't think the club is trying very hard to keep him - we want to improve the team and he has currency and may not be in the team in 2016.

We have played this perfectly so far, IMO, so well that some of you think this is Howe 'betraying' the club...

not so sure about that Redleg? just wondering how players go walking out on the Pies, or the bummers, or blues.

I think its the status & realism of success that's attractive to players wanting in. So, the contrary may be thee right way. That we should be more parochial & one eyed, & less 'politically correct' when it comes to players doing the dirty on us.

This whole games culture has been built around 'old values', of "cleaning them up" for not doing the right thing. If Jeremy had done the right thing, playing to his utmost anywhere this club needs, then he wouldn't be on the nose.

Hey Jeremy. No matter where you go, about $200k of that will solely be due to the air time (double meaning) your new club will receive.

You could forget about being a highlights package for a team such as the desolate wasteland of religious retreats and golf bags full of white powder that is the Cold Ghost Shuns and concentrate on becoming a team player for the club who selected you from the bowels of this country.

But hey, a gusty move to play businessman and request a trade when the majority of others who do that have proved they're reliable players.

Yours insincerely, the wider MFC community.

Rumour has it that Pendlebury and Bucks plan on meeting Howe in Bali as they are there for Pendles wedding.

Honestly I hate how Howe is dragging this out and limiting our opportunities to trade him. If he wants to go fair enough, but don't [censored] waste our time about it.

Second rounder would be a win for us.

If we hadn't been too quick to give it away on the Melksham trade!

2015 Melbourne B&F.

9. Jeremy Howe

2015 Essendon B&F.

9. Jake Melksham.

(Melksham also finished 5th in 2013, which is higher than Howe ever has).

If Howe is worth a second rounder, so is Melksham.

With the Treloar and Aish deals floating around the Pies don't have any decent picks to offer for Howe.

I bet they will want to do a trade that includes their Ben Kennedy who we are looking at.

Plus some crappy pick.

I hate the way the Pies swoon around, enticing players with their facilities, the ANZAC day game, their big $$ support team then play hardball in trading with the club.

Hardball at the trade table is not something I have seen our club do so I fear we will come off 2nd best if Howe chooses the Pies.

Maybe we can offer them Dawes back

Hop off the high horse Redleg. Outside of a select few I think others are beginning to realise that, yes, we may not have made a huge effort to keep him, but he hasn't made a huge effort to stay either.

Hatred is not something I would use for Howe, and I think most on here would agree. Disappointment is more fitting. It's disappointing to lose him, but ultimately he is someone we can well and truly cover. I think the club knows that as well.

Your last line is silly as well. EVERY club forum would do exactly the same thing. It's naive to think otherwise.

I have no problem with Howe leaving as much as I have no problem the club delisting Jordie McKensie. Club and player make decisions, look for opportunities, drive towards goals. How they do it counts the most. In that respect, I think Howe's position has been pretty clear all year...and Roos' has too.

This is a good opportunity for both parties. I just want to see it handled well from our end.

And yet we allegedly tried to do a deal with GWS last year, 2 hours before the trade deadline. The irony.

That's not the impression I'm getting from 90% of posters. Would the same posters who are calling out Howe for lack of loyalty, be critical of the club if it traded out a player who loves the club and wants to stay, namely Jack Watts?

i really wanted to keep howe over garland, but the latter committed whereas the former did not.

decision made.

we really need a bidding war to start for his services to guarantee us something good, preferably with gc17 winning it as we can do that 6 and howe for 3 and something else in the top 20.

bastinac is neither here nor there, it seems like toumpas is the makeweight for kennedy, who knows with bugg, we could end up getting him for a fourth rounder which would be a steal.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Howe stay - but would like him forward of centre instead of half back. He doesn't have the game for half back IMO. Half forward with a decent midfield and forward structure around him would provide another avenue to goal. We have Jesse as the rock who can stand his ground and take a grab. Garlett and Kent provide some decent small forward options on ground. Would like to keep Howe's flexibility in the forward line if possible.

We underestimate how difficult it is to play in a team that has been so putrid for so long.

Very interesting choice of player mate. The people who don't like or rate Watts, and there are plenty, would be happy to see him go. The rest not so much and of course they would be critical of the club. That's human nature.

What is we traded Angus Brayshaw during this trade period? He loves the club and EVERY poster on here would be critical of the club. Even if we received 4 first round draft picks for him most would pot the club, and rightly so. I would be in that camp.

There are two sides to every story. The club would have presented a contract offer that they believe reflected his value to the club going forward. I don't necessarily agree with the figures being floated around about what others have offered, but at the same time he clearly felt he was worth more money rather than realising the club needs to be very smart about how we use the salary cap going forward with many players to re-sign over the coming years. It's a different landscape and I'm happy that the club won't budge on what it is offering him, which wouldn't be all that low to honest.

Howe didn't like it and flogged himself to other clubs through his manager all year. That's pretty poor IMO. While many others showed faith in the club and it's direction he went off chasing a little more money and assurances that he'll play on a half forward/wing, even though we all know that's not his best position. He doesn't have the tools or the smarts to play well in that position. Roos knew it, Goodwin knew it... Howe doesn't.

There's no doubt that the club aren't overly upset if Howe leaves, hence the "take it or leave it" offer. The FD obviously have their own opinions on Howe, but I'm sure like every player, Howe has the self belief that he can take his game to another level, just as I'm sure Melksham does.

Whilst Howe is good to watch I'm happy for him to go. It is clear that besides Jones, leadership is a weakness in our 24+ year old group, and it will only be when Viney, Brayshaw and maybe Hogan etc are in this age group that it might be a strength. In fact many of the older players are probably somewhat damaged by what they have gone through. I reckon Frawley was a case in point and him moving on was a win for both parties.

Others such as Grimes, Watts and Garland are probably in the same boat - but at least these guys are desperate to be at MFC, so even if they may not be able to provide leadership they will do what they can to help the new generation that is our hope (note Garland's comments in re-signing were more about team than himself - unlike Frawley and Howe).

I also reckon that Howe and Watts are too similar to have both in the same team - in that they are a 3rd forward tall, or intercept half back, but as neither are hard enough in the contest its a risk to play both. I would rather Howe's marking and Watt's kicking - and if it comes down to one or the other I would take the kicking skills given this is an obvious weakness for us.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
