Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Marketing value is ?....a very rubbery thing.

Howe can be marketable for sure as has been but i offer up Hogan, Brayshaw, Chunk...Beerrrrrnnnniie !!.

Dare i say Kent running into goal..Salem squeaking off a pinpoint pass is AS marketable.

Whenever someone offers up ..but he's marketable i just want to say blow up out your... its irrelevant. What is is winning. Winning happens when players play and play well. FCUK marketing.

Lets try selecting players because they help us WIN...not look pretty on a poster ffs !!

$1.4mill over 3 with 4th yr option - I'd do this if I was club. It's $466k a year - probably $66k a year over the odds but he covers that in marketing value - my son loves him - one of the only reasons I can get him to watch the Dee's.

As we build the list then it's a fair bit to play for someone playing at Casey. He kept his spot this year because there wasn't really anyone ready to step up but the next few years will be different, he will need to lift his game I would think.

Let him walk. It could be argued that Howe's manager's played this well, rather than the MFC. He sets an exorbitant price for Howe and then agrees to cut it by a third and ends up still getting over what he's worth. I'm sure that's the plan anyway.

Howe should be on $300-350k absolute max. He's too inconsistent, one dimensional and lacks the chase to be paid anymore than this. I want him gone mostly for cultural reasons at this stage. I've seen enough of his jogging to make a call on it.

I think though that the MFC have no interest in signing him. They're looking for a trade.

At this rate, anyone on our list who has more currency by leaving than staying is ripe for trade. Exhibit A: getting pick 3 for losing Frawley.

Your hypothesis is pretty accurate too. I think everyone approaches salary reviews with the plan of demanding a ~20% payrise knowing you'll only get half of what you ask for. Player managers undoubtedly approach client contracts the same way. It's all a game.

It's pretty tried and true business operating procedure too. I do it all the time with my producing.

If no suitable trade comes up, I'd throw a 1 year contract at him at slightly above average wage and say show me what you've got. You tested the market and it was a bust, you think you're worth a stack of cash - prove it. If he comes good he gets better offers, and/or a better deal with the club. If he doesn't, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Seriously doubt he's best 22 next year, adding Melksham, maybe Kennedy (B) and an A-grader, White coming on, Trenners, Petracca, etc, etc. So if he wants a future, he'll need to earn it via Casey and be putting in 4 quarter efforts.

Yeah, good point. Fyfe is only worth pick 20 too then, right?

Yeah, didn't explain my point very well did I?

Let me try again.

We used pick 33 on How. If we traded him for a draft pick, I don't think a rival club would give up anything more than around 25-30ish.

I would be disappointed that after 5 years Howes currency hasn't increased.

As it is a weak draft, I would hope that we trade Howe as the steak knives component in a larger trade for an A-grader.

I wouldn't - for three basic reasons.

1. He has played the club for chumps (if his manager has represented him poorly then that's Jeremy's problem). He's tested the market first (code for 'show me the money') and in all likelihood will again the next time he's OoC. He'll walk as a F/A. Is he truly invested in the club? I doubt it based on his actions.

2. Based on output his next contract shouldn't be markedly different to his last. Despite playing every game he's been a poor contributor in a side that only won seven games.

3. He's tradable - someone will take him and the club will get something useful in return.

I think Howe is gone. I just can't see that the club would re-sign him. He apparently doesn't want to go interstate - which is a problem if that's where the club can get the best deal for him. (Not sure the Pies can give back what he's worth). His options look limited as well - particularly if Carlton convince Carlisle to go to the PSD.

What we pay him is largely irrelevant, it will be round the mark.

It's what we can get for him that counts.

Agree. I sound like a broken record on this, but I don't get the fascination with how much players are paid. Who cares - whether we pay Howe $300k or $400k isn't going to make one jot of difference to how good our side is - nor does how much Dawes is paid, which is another one fans like to bring up.

What we get in exchange for Howe though is another matter.

2 years at $250,000 per or find another club

Sorry Jeremy but you are a bloody average footballer

You can't be willing to give him so little, yet expect to get anything in return if we move him on.

Just a stupid stupid stance to take.

This is what I'm hoping we use Garland for too.

A tad ruthless and probably unlikely...but I like the idea :)

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
