I wasn't aware GWS made a play for him last year. Interesting, could've picked up another Treloar/Shiel/Greene.

I believe they offered us pick 6 or 7 in return for Howe and maybe a later pick.

we might miss out on band 1 compensation because he won't do squat this year due to his golden ticket status

We also won't get band 1 compo because he isn't a free agent...

Big difference here is that he isn't an unrestricted free agent. Plenty of water to go under the bridge.

But it also continues to highlight the need for us to continue to improve. Give Howe every reason to stay and it won't be a problem.

Learn about the free agency rules before you post your golden ticket rubbish Curry. Amazes me how little you know about football.

Oops! Something has changed since this morning! Maybe the manager didn't get the response he wanted. Maybe the club said fine go and chase the market: "Melbourne said they were content with Howe's decision and the likelihood of resigning him. "As a club we are comfortable with Jeremy's decision. Players go about negotiating their contracts in different ways and we respect their right to do so," a club spokesman said."

So be it. I'm over stressing over players who want to move on. I only ask that they give 100% when playing for the club. Franklin was a great example of this. Then que sera sera.

Not that Howe is one of my more favorite players, but if we lose him, i think supporters could become a little disillusioned with the AFL. Especially if he ends up at the Hawks or the Cats, who lets face it, don't really need him to continue to make finals. I think that it is less to do with Howe and more to do with the principle of it.

Someone explain please

something to do with c&b's obsession with children's movies such as willie wonka and the chocolate factory

His manager said today talks weren't on hold... I reckon the age is incorrect here.

Apparently had a chat with Josh and were going away for a week or so to think before speaking again.

Weirdly enough, I could probably tolerate him going to GWS. I reckon their main interest in him is his theatrics, not his game. He's a great way to market the AFL brand in Western Sydney (considering nobody gives two [censored] about GWS currently) and they'll put him on good coin.

Have we all forgotten his numerous ineffective matches in 2014? And Roosy's frustrated spray at quarter time to him and Watts? He's got a lot to learn.

Oh look who's chiming in with another snide remark. You've proven your analytical depth with your sterling '2 comes before 3' argument. Run that by us again Mr.Football, it was so well considered and articulated

change 'band 1 compensation' to 'anything decent in trade from another club' then. Same deal

If a player misses any part of the preseason, and then fails to perform in the season, he gets a 'golden ticket' from some of the weaker minds around here who excuse his lack of quality with an 'interrupted preseason' comment. Watch it happen. Thankfully there were no new recipients from tonights game.

I love his marking but his a one trick pony.

If he decides to leave then it's not a big deal.

Mate give it a rest no one has yet to take a liking or any mild interest in your 'Golden Ticket' tripe.

Oh yeah I just made the whole thing up. There has never been a player get completely excused for having an interrupted preseason. I must have imagined it. Do you think I GAF what you 'take a liking to' ? If you are offended because I regularly make you look like the goose that you are, just suck it up and try to make more sense occasionally.

Agreed. It's just Curry beating his sunken chest again.

Yeah 'agreed'. Solid argument on the issue being discussed which is preseason injuries.

Is somebody making a pointless snide comment? Yes I agree with that. Pathetic

WTF is a sunken chest

You seem to be a little extra frustrated and snappy round these parts at the moment C&B. Had your period come a little early this month?

Fact is that we can match any offer given for Howe, and we have the money to do so. Things are firmly in our favour.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
