Collingwood may be filth but they havent treated the entire competition with utter contempt for the last 4 years.

Not to mention the way they won a certain grand final - its not like they wouldnt have won anyway

AFL won't act decisively until ASADA win their case. It is wise for them to keep their powder dry, and let the EFC dig their own hole deeper (and deeper).

If/when the players get a year+ ban, plus further club sanctions, they will leave it to EFC to decide if they will field a team in 2015, if not, the AFL will act to rejig the fixture, and move on with the season, while the EFC appeals... and appeals... gets sued by players, etc.

Gill will be standing well clear when this hits the fan, and wisely too.

This is an outstanding article on the recently departed AFL Commissioner, to be Victoria's Governor, Linda Dessau. Had heard nothing about her except a comment on DL that she is an Esendon supporter.

In reading this part:

I realized that she can be very neutral when it comes to ethics and values. That she has left the Ess Womens's network speaks volumes about her integrity. Interesting that it happened after David Evan's was thrown under a bus by Hird!! She obviously knows who the wrong doer really is!!

The article also talks about Dessau being an ideal replacement for Fitzpatrick as Chair of the Commission, in due course. IMO Fitzpatrick's used-by date has expired. He has had too many conflict of interests: Etihad Stadium connections, CFC associations and the non-action on tanking and more recently his back room dealings to involve (I think Wiley) in the EFC saga in 2013.

(This is probably something for another thread but I wonder why AFL Commission members are not voted on by paid up members of the 18 Clubs in the same way shareholders vote for seats on a company Board. Time to overhaul the commission perhaps? As I said a subject for another thread)

Looks like we have lost a top operator in Dessau and I just hope that the AFL don't choose a sycophant (male or female) to tow the party line in Commission meetings to replace her.

Just to push the boundaries a little...... If I was the AFL I would come down on Essendon like a tone of bricks. I would be urging, privately or publicly, that the maximum penalty be enforced. I would also be looking for club punishments and for as many as possible to be kicked out of the game. I would do all I could to make the club unworkable. Once it was on its knees I would then suggest they might like to move to Tassie. As a relocated team they could access a large fund to re-establish and get back on their feet..... Break them down, get them to do as I require and what I see as best forthe competition and then build them backup.

Tassie Bombers..... Got a ring to it....

Take a big picture view of this...

A prominent team in a high profile indigenous sport has breached the international doping code - and has attempted to avoid prosecution through a series of challenges to the legality of the investigatory process.

Should the independent Board of Commissioners overseeing that sport take a conciliatory view by imposing a series of short term measures designed to preserve the status quo - or draw a line in the sand and say enough is enough - we need to rise above this - we are withdrawing your licence and handing the 18th licence to a fresh new organisation?

That sport will lose friends - and money - in the short-term - but in the long-term it will be able to hold its head high as a pure competition which doesn't tolerate cheats..

Ultimately - and certainly if WorkSafe prosecute the organisation - that may well be the decision confronting the AFL. If - as we continue to hear - the other 17 clubs are united in their condemnation of the Little Herd Show - it must be getting closer to the Agenda.

Perhaps interesting (for us) BF post from the Carlton supporter who seems to have direct contact with the case and/or ASADA. He was the one that posted the now-famous/deleted copy of part of the ASADA brief over at Bigfooty:

"There is a view on here that the investigation stopped after the interim report. Obviously that is rubbish. However, it is also rubbish that the investigation stopped after infraction notices were issued. They had enough evidence, in their view, to get a successful outcome but of course they would not stop to attempt to strengthen their case. I am sure, even now, ASADA are still investigating, I understand that they had investigators at Melbourne and my club in the last few days and were interviewing individuals at those clubs."

was always a possibility they would come and ask us questions, given dank was in contact with our doctor and that trengove visited Alavi's chemist.

i would hope that our club would handle itself totally differently to essendon - as well as have records of who took what and when.

not to mention the fact that we sacked the doc the second we found out he had been talking to dank!
