People who are posting in here are interested in the biggest AFL story in decades

What story was bigger?

Note this one is far from over, we may only be half way through this one.

Anyone else think the AFL are dripping some info into the media to condition the public into taking this 12 months ban shortened to 6 months backdated rubbish? My gut feel is the players will be available Round 1.

Don't forget though, that if ASADA deem the penalty too light, they can appeal it.

The AFL (the good guys) don't want to be seen as the bad guys. They could hand down a small penalty, knowing that ASADA/WADA (bad guys) will not accept it. ASADA/WADA will appeal, I presume the penalties continue until the appeal is heard then appropriate penalties (the max) will be handed down.

Essendon will not get away with this evil & and corrupt exercise without much more pain (self inflicted).

Edit: typo

Ive been running this up and down the flag pole...i.e Good cop bad Cop etc.

I just dont think this is the AFL really. They dont really want anything to ever impeded the game. They and ethics go together like a Karcher and toothpaste.

They ( AFL ) strike me as still thinking they are administering the BIg Picture ideals whilst bizarrely not realising they themselves are but a player and not the overseers. . They seem to be struggling with this.

At the risk of popping into the top 10, whether this is a bigger story than the change in cricket is neither here nor there. It is a big story.

But of course, compared to that day in the Colosseum in 26BC it is a storm in a teacup.

AKA Demons supporter? :blink::blink:

That Flavian Ampitheatre stuff was over rated.

No chance.

Without sounding too dramatic, the integrity of sport world-wide will be put into jeopardy if these cheating scum are able to get off Scott free. It will send the message that sporting organisations can dope their players up to the eye-balls, conveniently destroy evidence, and walk away with no more than a wrap on the knuckles.

Obviously AFL care for the AFLs ends. The AFL is nothing in the grand scheme of things and Essendrug will be pulverised accordingly.

When is a practice game not a practice game?

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/collingwood-president-eddie-mcguire-believes-st-kilda-would-be-filthy-about-essendons-training-session-with-williamstown-20150305-13vy4d.html

"Radio station 3AW revealed that Essendon have invited Williamstown to their Tullamarine base on Friday night for a joint training session that would involve "match simulation". The session has been reportedly been approved by the AFL.

The 25 players still at Essendon who were on the club's list in 2012 are sitting out the AFL's pre-season circuit to protect the anonymity of the provisionally-suspended players among them who were caught up in the supplement scandal.

Essendon have stressed that the session would not serve as a practice match – if it did, the Bombers would risk having the backdated period for potential suspensions to its players - from the anti-doping tribunal - begin on Friday night rather than September 2014."

This beggars belief! Are there any more ways in which Essendon and the players can give ASADA the "up yours' all with the AFL's blessing. There is no way these guys deserve backdating penalties for any reason let alone for 'co-operation'. Arrogance personified!

Edit: I wonder if they play 3 'match simulation' sessions coinciding roughly with the 3 NAB games whether ASADA will then deem them to be practice games anyway. Knowing how cunning EFC have been they will probably skip one to avoid this inference.

Funny isn't it that Bob actually compliments us,

and we jump on him. Bob what do you think of the No T$ no B$ thread?

I'm interested in the outcome of the Essendon drug probe, it is indeed a huge story. But with nothing new happening for ages I reckon there is little else to say. I've had my say in the previous thread and my view, to say the least, wasn't supported.

As for the NoT$ no B$ thread - I haven't opened it for months.

Baghdad Bob where do you get those stats? Surely you didn't count them?

Nash I wish I'd known that before I'd counted them!!

My position on this is different to many. I don't have a hatred of any particular club and I reckon that we've been less than perfect corporate citizens in the past. The supporters make up a footy club, without them the team is nothing. Coaches, players and administrators are a passing parade of paid servants of the club who represent it somewhere between excellently and poorly. Supporters don't select those that represent them really, we can pretend we elect Boards and the such but when was the last time we selected a representative? 2003 if my memory is correct.

No supporter bases are better or worse than the others. All clubs have passionate and great supporters and all clubs have ratbags. Essendon find themselves on the end of vile management and individuals at the moment and I feel for their supporters. By being naïve and supporting their club they are doing nothing different to those who refused to concede we did anything wrong in the tanking fiasco (I'm comparing behavior here not gravity of crimes).

My initial position was that I thought the players were completely duped. Now I'm not so sure but I do think Little and Hird should never see the inside of an AFL ground again. As for the supporters I think they have been through enough and they have done nothing to bring this upon themselves (as a group).

I hope this is over soon. I hope Essendon survive as a club. I refuse to engage in the schadenfreude going on in the wider footballing community.

We nearly had Dank, you and I would never have had any input into it and we could have been where Essendon are now. And I'd hate to see us dead and buried as a result.

Interesting discussion going on here about Joe Daniher and the possibility he was underage when taking part in the alleged doping program at EFC

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/joe-danihar.1089464/

if theres any truth to it then the EFC are in more strife than anyone could have imagined.

To add weight to the rumours, he hasn't been named for Essendons NAB Cup game

Wow, if this is the case the club needs to be hit extremely hard, absolutely disgusting if true.

A lot of what you say is true, but to say there have been no developments is not right. Every time there is an article in the media it seems reasonable for people here to comment on it.

In theory I hate no club more than others, but by crikey when I recall the 2000 GF and compare EFC with say a struggling club like Footscray, I know where I'll apply any schadenfreude I can conjure up.

can't understand why zaharakis isn't playing.

he is on public record as saying he wasn't part of the program (didn't like injections)

so playing him doesn't compromise anyone else's anonymity

Knee injury, they are going to nurse him through to round 1 i think but he went down with his knee the same day Christian did and it sent a bit of panic through Essendon supporters.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
