Good for you Jack! Probably the most selfless player at the club, along with his former co-captain.

Now he can stop worrying about others and concentrate on his own game.

Agree Rowdy, Jack and his family bleed red and blue, he has co captained through a very difficult time for the club which is a big ask for someone so young.

He recognises that his form has suffered as a result and the injuries Jack has suffered have compounded the problem.

Given a full pre season I'm confident he can make an impact in 2015.

I still think he's a great leader and has a lot of good traits as a player to be an on field leader.

I'm very glad that Jack and/or the coaches have seen that there is a problem with his form though. First step to fixing a problem is acknowledging it. I hope we see a faster, stronger and more skillful Jack Grimes out on the field next year.

There is nothing to say he can't still be an on-field leader, even if it is not in an official capacity. Surely though he will be elected to the leadership group.

My bet is either Bernie Vince or Chris Dawes. Both would be good choices. I know Bernie has had a bit of a "wild man" reputation, but I think he has been terrific for the MFC, and his experience would be invaluable for Jonesy. Chris Dawes is a hugely impressive and smart individual. I understand Eddie rates him very highly and sees him as holding key management positions at the Pies/AFL in the future, thereby putting his Law Degree when he eventually graduates to good use.

Either way, we are in good hands.

I feel sad for Jack but as said earlier this probably needed to happen. I don't think the captaincy was as bad for him as it was for Trenners . It made more sense for the former individual to do it as opposed to the latter due to his age when selected. However, Grimesy at times last year was on the verge of being dropped and at the end of the season may have been traded if he weren't captain. Now, he can focus on playing and won't have to stay in the team for the sole reason because he is the captain.

WYL summed it up best. It was a desperate move and a marketin gimmick pulled off by people who wanted to save their jobs. I too would like to see Jack go back to number 16 as well. We can all then forget about the 'Whiteboard Wednesday' and 'reality bus' eras once and for all.

Just not a good enough footballer. We don't need him to be an impressive individual who can hold down key management positions we just need him to take marks and kick goals. Eddie knows this and thats why he's not at Collingwood.

I'd expect the VC role will be between Dunn and Dawes, most likely the former.

One thing that felt good about that - my initial thought was Viney or Tyson, but then I realised that we do actually have some senior players who are more than capable VC's, so it allowed me to not put that on a kid/s allowing them to continue to develop.

Whilst I agree and applaud Grimes for making this call to focus on his game, I am not 100% convinced that this means that Jones will captain in his own right next year.

It will be interesting because I can't recall too many teams coached by Paul Roos where there was a sole captain at the club, perhaps the early days with Stuart Maxfield. But that quickly changed with him being in favour of having co-captains, and it seems as though its the leadership model that he prefers.

Roos does appear to favor having a captain/senior leader on each line of the ground, and for that reason I wouldn't be surprised if we see players like Dawes and Dunn elevated. Jones has a young family, and I am not convinced it is his interests to take the role on exclusively either.

Almost certainly the latter - don't think its in his DNA to shy away from leadership challenges. Either way I think its in the best interests of both Jack and the club.

I wouldn't hold the B&F up as an indicator of success I think we will know by the end of 2015 if he can really play or not. I think he can and I also think many on here will never believe he can even if he wins a Brownlow.

Truly great leaders know when it's time to move aside. I don't know whether he jumped or was pushed, but if he jumped he's shown real leadership by putting the team first.

I think if Jacks purely focused on his game, decisions, execution etc... and not trying to rally and direct others he'll come back to form quickly and better than we've ever seen him play.

I have no doubts this kid can play and we can add him to the list of poor development and poor management. Should have still been learning the basics and concentrating on his own game before being made the face of the club that was on the edge of destruction.

I can't imagine the stress put on Grimes and Trenners during that dark dark period. No wonder they plateaued / went backwards. Poor kids probably didn't have a nights sleep for 2 years.

All the best Grimesy at just concentrating on getting some more of the pill like you used to and using it well.

I still have faith that he will get back to his best that we all so early fell in love wit. Also, come 2015, I believe we will pretty much have a brand new high quality mid in Trenners returning and remind us why he was a pick 2.

Bernie wasn't even inducted in the leadership group last year I highly doubt he will go straight to a vice captain role.

As much as he is a good player he doesn't exactly scream of VC let alone a leader.
