How do you see the 2015 team?

A fit Grimes is going to be ahead of Salem/Toumpas you'd think.

PS. Its Garlett.

Cheers, fixed up the spelling and no I don't think so. He's had his chances, not sure how the captaincy affected his ability to kick. Salem could kick hence why we drafted him. If your two big lumbering defenders have ordinary disposal you could cop that but we are supposed to be moving forward not treading water. We need to try someone else, Salem is an option. Purely my opinion.

OK, it's a long way out but I'm going into prediction mode as opposed to how I would line them up.

FB: Garland Dunn Jetta

CHB: Brayshaw McDonald Grimes

C: Lumumba Tyson Vince

CHF: Kent Hogan Bail

FF: Garlett Pedersen Watts

Foll: Jamar N Jones Viney

Int: Cross Howe JKH

Sub: Salem

Emerg: Gawn M Jones Newton

I think that would be a pretty competitive team. I'm really unsure where to play Howe and putting him on the bench is a bit of a cop-out.Toumpas is the talk of the forum atm and I hope he makes it but no room in this team sadly. Nice to have solid, mature bodies in Riley, Michie and McKenzie outside of this team and young talent like Frost, Toumpas, Stretch, Neal-Bullen and Petracca as well and obviously the suspended Dawes. Casey might make for much more enjoyable viewing this year. Interested to see how close this squad of 25 will be come round 1 next year. Brayshaw off half back in his first year. Get around it!

Does anyone here think Oscar Mc might have an impact next year?? I know his body isn't physically ready but seeing him at training gee he's got some skills

I reckon there is a big market here for the MFC shop.

Nice Red and Blue frames with magenta lenses

With Dame-Edna style lashes on top?

Dawes misses Round 1 so Gawny or Fitz come in. Pedersen gets the nod as pinch hitting ruckman and on 2014 form. Toumpas Salem JKH all pushing as well by mid season Crossy may well be passed by the younger brigade. Bail is the best tagging forward we have and is very disciplined so gets the nod over JKH

This is an exercise in futility this far out so my R1 team will probably change markedly after the practice games. Still, just for fun :

B: Jetta, Dunn, Garland

HB: Howe, T. McDonald, Grimes

C: Lumumba, N. Jones, M. Jones

HF: Watts, Hogan, Kent

FF: Garlett, Fitzpatrick, Petracca

R : Jamar, Tyson, Viney

Int : Cross, Vince, Toumpas

Sub : Salem

Em : JKH, Michie, Bail

Matt Jones selection might raise some eyebrows but we still lack outside run and GCS have recently slaughtered us in this respect. For the same reason I've put Lumumba there. Not sure that Michie, Newton, Salem, Brayshaw have the boxes ticked for this role. Riley & McKenzie don't. Maybe JKH or perhaps Kent could push up there. Stretch hopefully in 2016

If we expect expect GCS to play all of their tall forwards then Frost probably comes in at the expense of Grimes or Garland

Fitz does relief rucking duties

No specialist tagger. One of Jones, Viney, Cross to camp on GAJ. Or perhaps work in shifts

With Dawes replacing Gawn in Round 2 [or whoever ends up injured]

You're setting yourself up for a fall. Set your hopes low and allow yourself the ability to be surprised by the positive things you see. Hope this helps.

Don't think so this time. But we shall see. They may not all do it but I reckon a few will.

I like it. Except that I can't see Brayshaw being ahead of Toumpas (or some others). Not yet at least.

Would probably move Lumumba to the half back line (for Brayshaw), and then add another hard bodied mid to the midfield for Lumumba.

Depends whether you want a hard at it inside mid or another outside link type

Now thats not said as a slight on the Greek , just a simple , what do you want question. Two different styles there and it will come down to needs. Id actually think we'll get Brayshaw in, up and running , as quickly as possible as we're crying /bleeding for mids to get their own ball and then know what /how to do with it.

The Toump is in a different queue perhaps

Ehhh, Old Dee, it is called Leadership. Something about getting the best out of your list. And very typically Paul,Roos. Thank God. Communication is vital in this this. It is most definitely NOT cheap talk!

Yeah...it's cheap talk.

Paul Roos choses words carefully..

"I think Jimmy can be a quality AFL player and I said that to him in his post-season interview,"

"He (Toumpas) needs to stop worrying about what pick three or pick six is doing, and it can be hard not to do that. But he has got serious talent to be an AFL player."

Notice Roos says Jimmy CAN be a quality player ? Notice Roos says he has the talent to BE an AFL player.

No grand pronouncements ( contrast to Leon Cameron's ridiculous assertions about "he who shall not be named" last week). The only thing missing from Roos statement is the final line - 'now it's time to deliver"

I can't pick a beset team on paper for 2015. There are too many ifs but hear we go.

If Howe plays in the backline and Frost can cement a spot in the side I see Garland and Grimes as midfield rotations. Jetta plays on the best small forward and will follow whoever that is up the ground into midfield rotations as well with Grimes or Garland rotating back. Dunn has to play back after last season and Lumumba is a back.

If Gawn does a full pre-season he is number 1 ruckmen and The Russian will play out his days at Casey.

If Petracca holds down a HF flank, which is a possibility with his explosive power and big frame, Salem and Toumpas could be fighting for the same spot in the best 22. Both have polish but I think Salem may have more strings to his bow. I like them both but can't fit them both in. Finally some quality in competition for spots.

If one of Newton, Pigdog, Mitchie, ANB, Harmes, Matt Jones or R Bail start playing really good football Cross' days are numbered. Again competition for limited spots.

If JKH, Garlett and Kent play in the same forward line we will have real speed and x-factor.

Grimes to play as our tagger ahead of Jordie and Cross as to be used as a utility and a chop out for Grimes if needed .

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
