Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2014 Rookie Draft

Ed Morris from our own Casey scorpions would have to be a chance. Currently training with the club and had a pretty good year at Casey.

Couldn't hurt to give Tyler Roos a go as well. Certainly had the pedigree.

Ed Morris was one of the few bright lights among the Casey players this year. He even outshone a number of the MFC listed players who were regulars there and was a matchwinner in one of the Scorpions' few wins. However, he's 177cm and if he was rookied by us he would be waiting in line behind many other mids and unlikely to get a game any time soon.

Tyler Roos is taller but is slightly built and needs plenty of time to mature. I believe he's been offered an overage position on the Dragons' 2015 TAC Cup list and that might be a better option for him in the long run than being rookied and mainly forgotten at an AFL club.

At Melbourne we already have Jayden Hunt, James Harmes and

Max King as "development players" and a couple of the newly drafted players from Thursday night's draft will be joining them.

I therefore tend towards going for needs and like the idea of drafting mature aged players to fill specific roles if needed in much the same way as Alexis Georgiou came in from Round 1 last year when Col Garland was injured. Because Jack Trengove is almost certain to remain on the long term injury list for most, if not all, of 2015 it seem to make sense that we have a couple of mature players available in case specific roles need to be addressed and the ruck and a key position forward are two areas not yet addressed in our recruitIng this year.

My picks would be -

• Sam Bauldertone - ruckman from Norwood SA, about who I wrote a little while ago here, and

• Brett Eddy - a 191cm full forward who was the leading goalkicker in the SANFL.

Matt Hammellman sounds promising if not taken by the Brisbane Lions who have priority over him as a member of their academy.

I think the depth of the senior list these days makes the Trengove rookie elevation a low priority.

"Depth of our senior list" sorry Carlos can't agree.

IMO we have bugger all depth and r in the process of building a list.

Everything is high priority for us.

I have no idea on any of those prospects but on the summary alone Tyler Keitel looks a great rookie option

I thought so but I understand he was back at East Perth last week and didn't exactly set the world on fire. Tyler is very athletic but there is a question on his tank. I understand his time trial time last week was well below what they would be expecting. I think he may well have been given a fair serve by the coaching staff.

The choice is his now.

Undoubted potential but as the great RDB says that only gets you so far.

Tom Wilkinson ... saw this kid play in TAC Cup finals. Had him in draft range 40 - 50 yet missed out. Pace, pace, pace. Possession winner. Goal kicker. Will develop as wing/HFF. Serious endurance.

Yes, Wilkinson looked good when I saw him and there's no doubt that Paul Roos would have noticed him as well. In fact, of all those not picked up in the draft, I'm most surprised about him not going. He's a real athlete and he gets the footy as well.

There is a but ... and that's whether we haven't got enough similar young players already and whether we have greater needs elsewhere.

Paige Cardona just keeps on keeping on - Rookie draft top 30 prospects

Problem is there's not much there and I suspect that quite a few clubs will end up taking recycled players.

http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-09-21/draft-prospect-michael-hartley

"Michael Hartley

Position: Key defender

Height: 198 cm, Weight: 102 kg

Club: Coburg Lions

Former Collingwood listed rookie Michael Hartley was part of Collingwood’s NSW/ACT scholarship system, a now debunk expedition the Pies used to mine from the Northern region for talent. Hartley had been subjected to the elite system since the age of 15 as part of the scheme, before being listed by the Pies. Unfortunately for Hartley, he never got going. Consecutive shoulder injuries plagued his time at Collingwood and ultimately he was delisted without debuting after two seasons.

Hartley was held in high esteem as a development defender, playing negating roles in the VFL down back. Joining Coburg this year, he enjoyed his best season yet. Shutting down opposition key forwards, averaging 11 disposals, four marks and four tackles at VFL level. Hartley’s mature body and height have him highly fancied by a number of clubs, and is a player tipped to earn a reprieve back into the system on Wednesday. Of Hartley’s attributes, is his athleticism and sheer strength. He makes good decisions with the ball, however is best used as a shutdown key defender whose spoiling and body positioning mean he’s rarely beaten in a one-on-one."

Like this bloke, biggest worry are his shoulders, but can play.

I still think we should rookie someone who can be immediately ready to play and another as a developing key position player.

I personally think the Jordan Schroder is one who we should be looking at, dominates VFL and is ready to step up and could provide depth. But i think most likely it will be Tappy

Brett Eddy is the one I also agree with.

Given Tappy's unfortunate history with injury Id be disappointed if we went to that well again. makes no sense

Tyler Roos.

If only for the fact that he seems a good kid, is popular with other required players, and it would ensure the Roos family's bond with the club gets more entrenched.

It could work both ways - for if Tyler doesn't perform next year or the following, then he will need to be cut at a time when Roo's may be close to ending his tenancy.

If pursuing the Roo's connection as an idealolgy then a better course would be to encourage Tyler to be an overage TAC player and then rookie him next year.

I thought it had to have been done by yesterday.

Yeah your right, nominations were monday

From Afl website:

Monday December 1 - AFL delisted player free agency period (3) ends. AFL club list lodgement (3) and TPP estimates. International players inclusion on rookie list form; Scholarship players rookie list form lodged; Father/son and Academy pre-selected rookie nominations.

So Brisbane decided not to nominate him, so he's free to be taken by anyone

If he hasn't been taken, he is one right in the mix for us with Baulderstone.

Not interested in more generic mids with experience, I think we've got enough that are fringe 22: McKenzie, Newton, Michie, Riley, Bail, M.Jones - that's gotta be enough soldiers.

When was the last successful KPF rookied? It just doesn't happen, they come early in the draft or F/S.

We don't need any more KPBs.

First ruck depth is OK with Jamar, Gawn, Spencer - if there is a fwd/ruck prospect like King I'd have some interest.

But I'd be looking for small defender and small attacking forward.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
