Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

DRAFT DAY - 2014

Salem was a first year player give him another pre season learning the defensive side of the game and he'll be ready to play two way footy. . He appears to be a natural footballer. Dont forget we added Mitchie and Riley last year as well - both of whom need another pre season under their belts coming off of pretty low bases due to injuries. All of those three are great sizes for the mid (183-185cm 80-85kgs) lets see them develop. JKH looks like a great little live-wire and with a bit of luck Jeff Garlett can show him the ropes and help fast track his development. We might just have an Eddie Betts type on our hands? Lets see the boys develop over the next few seasons before judging if we wasted opportunites at the draft table or not.

(a) We didn't turn the list over enough so we didn't bring enough young talent into the club. We could easily have delisted the likes of Strauss and Tapscott last year, and have been no worse off, other than a few $$ down the drain.

(b) I'm not 100% sold on Salem becoming a genuine AFL midfielder, and both JKH and Hunt are both utility types, rather than meeting our number 1 need of getting our hands on the footy more. Hunt seems a long way off being an AFL player and I'm not sure how he fits in to Roos view of an ideal fit for AFL football.

Yet you are looking at the draft in isolation.

We didn't "draft" Tyson or Cross but that also addressed our need for getting our hands on the ball ( with the likes of Vince and Michie).

Our need last season was not to get just ball winners - but ball winners who can have an immediate impact - hence we picked up Vince, Tyson, Cross and to a less extent Michie. Our problem was and to an extent remains that we are bereft of middle and upper age talent. Salem and JKH were both midfielders for their respective TAC clubs but to expect them to have an impact in the midfield year one ?

Further - we certainly achieved a big coup by getting in Tyson but it sent our 1st pick to number 9 - there were probably two midfielders who had some sort of impact last year from the draft being Dunstan (STKilda) and Merrett from Essendon ( played more forward).

I would suggest that we didn't miss any opportunities last draft.

I still can't believe we nabbed Brayshaw AND Petracca - big bodied mids that can win there own ball at the stoppage. No more stick insects!

Interestingly, we also landed the to highest ranking 'pure mids' from SA in Stretch and ANB.

Over the next few years these guys (with Jones, Tyson, Viney) will allow Salem, Toump and JKH to play on the flanks as 'finishes'.

I may be a typical cynical Dees supporter like most on here but "by gee, by jingo, by crikey", am I 'Super' excited or what with the recruitment team and draftees over the last two drafts. (I just had to get Roosy's favorite word 'Super' in there).

It's been a very calculated and strategic approach which we have been screaming out for and just gives MFC (Roos and Goodwin) every chance for sustainable success.

'Super' happy

I suspect someone said exactly the same thing after we drafted Sylvia and McLean.

Let's hope we get a better result this time.

I always wonder where people get the idea that Salem is an outside player, maybe it's because he looks a bit like Toumpas in appearance.

It's a misconception because he is such a good kick. The fact he is hard as nails and wins his own ball is just a bonus.

From memory Sylvia played the TAC cup as a forward because of OP and everyone had his upside as being able to move into the midfield. I don't think he was ever rated as a pure midfielder.

Luke Tapscott is not exactly your stick insect type either

you can either play or you can't

One thing I have loved about last night draft was that there were no pick where we all stood up and said whos that???? No smokeys!

No skinny project talls that will take 5 years to debut. And I dont class Oscar in this because I see him as a natural footballer who could sneak in a game or two next year just like his brother did.

Bravo Jason Taylor

What were Carlton thinking taking taking Boekhorst with their first pick and letting Laverde go thru!!! Unfortunately to Essendon. Surely Boekhorst would have been there at their next pick of around 23 or even the next. Look a bit foolish. Glad we don't have their recruiters.

Support an earlier post that our team did an 'Oscar' winning performance!

Yeah, was shocked at that. Felt that they got it back on track with Viojo-Rainbow and Smith with their next selections though. Think they were very happy to get Jayden Foster too, so for now they'll be pretty happy that they got two they targeted specifically (Boekhorst, Foster) and a bargain in Smith.

Whether the Jaksch trade was a winner, only time will tell.

Probably based on his roles and game style in junior footy. Was essentially a winger or flanker, not for lack of inside game, but for the team to best utilise his kicking ability.

Think he has the body and ability to win his own ball and can work his way inside at AFL level, he's certainly already shown flashes.

Often the term outside player is related to that good old term 'receiver'...Salem is much more than that as you are indicating.

Those who don't think he will go and get his own ball are way off the mark, he is as tough as any of the kids on the list probably bar Viney who is in his own league.

That he is thought of as outside, to me it due to players being defined as either "outside" or "inside" while in truth most players, as Salem is, are combination of both.

But If you had to define him as one of those, with this kicking and run and carry skills, you'd define him as outside though he certainly is tough and has a inside game.

Being classed as Outside really shouldn't be defined as negative, If you had to define Luke Hodge (who Salem was compared to when Drafted) as Inside or Outside, he'd be "Outside" because that's were he does his most damage, but he certainly can win his own ball inside, and is as tough and hard at the contest as anyone in the league .

Really happy with our drafting this year. We got our very own Martin with Petracca and our very own Wines with Brayshaw.

We also got Neal-Bullan and McDonald who draft experts thought would be picked in the 20's got to be happy with that.

Some on the BF Dogs board are scratching the heads at overlooking McDonald (or "McOz" - so much love for that nickname).

I felt like reminding them they overlooked Neal-Bullen as well, meaning they overlooked picks 21 and 22 in Knightmare's phantom draft, but didn't want to rub it in too much.

Yep, I've got a feeling the ride is about to get a little bit less bumpy, and a little bit more "[censored] yeah".

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
