Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Dom Barry steps away from AFL

To play AFL these days, or even be on an AFL list, you have to be able to do at least one meaningful thing at an AFL level.

Whether it be a player being quick, an endurance runner, or excellent skills, or ball winning and hardness, etc.

I don't see any trait in Barry meeting that requirement.

He is quick and has endurance.

Held nothing against him for retiring. Family comes first in all walks of life, so good on him for giving the club notice.

That said, he's now essentially a mature age recruit. About 3 or 4 get drafted at best every year and most are behind 2-3 really good years of lower level football.

Dom never tore up Casey, and quite frankly IMO, he would need just the same development come next pre season as any 18 year old we pick up- yet he would be 22.

I would be extremely surprised if Melbourne picked him up and am pretty confident, there would be next to no interest elsewhere from how far back he will be coming from.

More importantly, I'm happy for him his family stuff is on track and his love for football has returned; I just don't expect him to be plying his trade in the AFL

I think something that may being overlooked is the culture/leadership/attitude this can build amongst the group.

The fact that we've supported him after he's left, similar to Clark, shows that the MFC cares about their players, their wellbeing and them as people as opposed to just numbers. This is something Roos et al have brought in and continue to work on/build.

You see the clubs with good cultures, Sydney/Hawthorn in particular that will often do the best by their players, no matter where they sit on the list. I wouldn't be surprised if we brought him back as a rookie and continued to support him. This would have a flow on effect onto the rest of the team.

The days where we throw our champions and leaders onto the scrap heap are gone I believe. We're doing things right. I trust the crew steering our ship these days.

I don't mean to sound harsh but I don't think he was good enough anyway.

Steak-knives in the Hogan deal.

As good as Hogan is, we basically gave up Wines and Grundy for him and Barry.

I love Hogan, I'm a big fan of getting him on the list but that trade I'm still not sold on.

It's a prime example of the incompetencies at the trade table and in recruiting during the Neeld error (era).

Are you serious? I wouldn't trade out Hogan for wines or grundy, and I'm not sure I'd trade for both anyway.

Further, we got pick 20 back as well, so effectively Dawes was included.

exactly, pick 20 was a vital part of the deal - which was the cost of getting dawes in.

hogan and dawes for wines and grundy.

at worst, it's breaking even.

I Would take Hogan over Wines and Grundy, although Wines and Grundy are both equally as important to their respective clubs as Hogan is to ours and I have no doubt that all 3 will be stars of the competition in a few years time.

At best it is 250 games from the CHF of a generation and 150 games from a solid 2nd tall forward with leadership abilities, including 50 during the dark times when he was the only un-injured key forward on our list.

No way I'd trade that back.

Ollie Wines (round 1, 2013-present) and Brodie Grundy (round 1, 2013-present) > Jesse Hogan (round 1, 2015-present).

Add Dawes (and Barry) into the equasion if you want but considerable overs were still paid.

I think what he means is that we had picks 3 and 14, and that we could have picked up Wines and Grundy with those picks if we'd kept them. Fact is that we didn't even take Wines with pick 4 (so why would we have taken him with pick 3?) and I'm not sure that I'd trust in the former MFC recruiting team not to mess those picks up if we'd kept them. Number 3 and 14 as it stands were Lachlan Plowman and Aidan Corr (neither of whom I've ever heard of) and I don't think anyone would think of trading Hogan and Dawes for those two.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
