Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Tweet from the MFC:-

@melbournefc: There will be an open training session tomorrow at Gosch's Paddock from 9.15am #myheartbeatstrue

Assuming it's the same group of younger players who turned out last week plus any players wanting to do some additional preparation away from the prying eyes of the AFLPA which will probably be preoccupied with the Federal Court action looking after the interests of the 34 jabbees in James Hird's case against ASADA.

When does the full squad start training together?

I presume that will be next week.

© In each year, the AFL will determine the Recommencement Date, provided that:

(i) the Recommencement Date for Clubs that did not participate in weeks 2-4 of
the Finals Series shall not be prior to the date determined by the AFL and
AFLPA in mid-November;
(ii) the Recommencement Date for Clubs that participated in weeks 2-4 of the
Finals Series shall not be prior to 1 December;
(iii) a Club may require players with four or less years on an AFL Primary List to
return for developmental training two weeks prior to its Recommencement
Date; and
(iv) each Player shall receive a minimum of six weeks Leave prior to the
Recommencement Date.

But I'm tipping the club strongly suggested the guys starting last week had participated in the 'voluntary' sessions in order to be right for the mandatory sessions.

Following that logic I'd suggest this week that the senior players will be strongly suggested to be here this week if they weren't here last week/s.

This was the unsighted group from last Wednesday - Unsighted: Jamar, Spencer, Vince, Trengove, Lumumba, Garlett, Stretch, McKenzie, Riley, Grimes, Jetta, Newton.

Jamar and Grimes had been present the week before. Spencer, Vince and Trengove are coming back from injuries, they might not be on the track regardless. Stretch is likely still doing exams or enjoying a week or two of freedom.

So it wouldn't surprise me at all to see McKenzie, Riley or Jetta joining in tomorrow on a voluntary basis and I'd almost expect Garlett and Newton to be there, why wouldn't you want to do some quiet work on the track just to get ready for the first real week. Lumumba doesn't bother me either way. He's always fit, he's an experienced player.

really good training report on this page.

Thanks, great report...factual, insightful and quite entertaining!

Dare I say it...there could be some serious competition for Saty as our #1 training reporter!

its not mine, but I think the guy that does them goes by 'All the Jacks' on Demonland.

That's why I only put the link up, don't want to take credit for someone else's work...

Thanks for putting it up Hellfish! Look forward to more of 'All the Jacks' lyrical reports.

You could "dare" say it ... but I don't understand what it achieves.

All those who want to post training reports should be encouraged.

At work and can't access Facebook...

Any chance someone could cut and paste it?? (giving credit to the original source of course)

Sure:

TRAINING REPORT: "In any project the important factor is your belief. Without belief, there can be no successful outcome." ~ William James

And alas the training reports for 2014-15 begun, with the above quote the aim to ensure that everybody is able to feel the sessions as if they are there (as there are many that cannot make it) and get a lot out of it.

On my way in to Gosch's Paddock, the song that's stuck in my head is Oasis' "Don't Look Back in Anger". A perfectly apt title for the scenario - many of us choose to look back in anger from the dark old days.

However, it's now all about a positive future ahead, with the right people in charge in every department. Roos, McCartney, Goodwin, Jackson. It's hard not to get excited.

Enough about what I'm doing pre-training, it is all about what the boys are actually doing on the track.

Get in, and there's a (nice) stench of a club who have gone about their business quietly this summer. It's nice that there's heaps of attention on other clubs wrongdoings for once, and that we've stayed out of trouble. The scenario at play here involves blokes who are more experienced are committed - Garland, Spencer, Cross, McKenzie, Gawn, Jamar, Jetta, Grimes, N Jones, Bail, Dunn (he's brought his young bloke along and he's playing along, so cute) are notable examples of players who are here who don't actually need to be here as they've been on the list for more than four years. To say the least, it is an impressive number of players making the effort.

Training starts, standard lap around Gosch's. Run past for the first time and a few observations initially - JKH is noticeably more ripped (shredding for Stereo) around the biceps, the Casey boys who are training with us are together.

Perhaps the most heartening thing here is the big bloke is training.

The Hulk is out there. Running style still noticeably awkward but I don't care. Needs to be fit come Round One.

Vince, Gawn and Terlich look like they'll be doing light work, Bernie of course has had shoulder surgery post-season and will have a delayed start to pre-season. Given his experience that should be no problem given he's putting in the hard yards on his legs (leg day erryday then).

Standard stretch routines over the Punt Road side of the ground then.

It's a bit different to what I saw last season so it indicates they're progressing from a physical standpoint (they need to anyway - with so many young blokes you have to get them to progress).

The more experienced boys go to the sidelines post-stretches, leaving the young blokes on the track.

Got a glimpse of Jamar running laps - he looks trimmer and slimmer! You need to see it in person to understand.

Beep tests!!! It's not the standard beep test CD I was accustomed to throughout my schooling, but it's something that I've not heard before. Will take me a while to figure out.

Interesting to note Tappy's presence. Must suggest he could be redrafted as a rookie.

Notice Michael Evans just on the sidelines for a mo, see him spin the ball on his finger and all I'm thinking is "HE'S SPINNING THE BALL ON HIS FINGER!!! TAKE IT!!! TAKE THE BALL!!!" Classic Krusty.

Blokes doing a number of Jakey Kings (ahem... push ups), grapple drills, plus I see Dom on the sidelines too.

Dawes here, he's on the sidelines. Hopefully does the majority of pre season this time after doing bugger all in 2013-14.

Fashions on the field - the Toump has shaved his head, it seems.

Looks uncomfortably like Dan Nicholson.

Good to see Glenn Bartlett (the prez) down on the sidelines watching us.

Number of Collingwood staff watching us - Rocca, Harvey et al. Tempted to remind them Lumumba is on holiday and doesn't come back till next week.

The senior blokes have come back, seemingly doing some running or something.

Fashions on the field #2 - I think Jonesy has some bright new kicks. Suppose he's earned them.

Fluoro yellow, you can see them miles away.

Big boy Sammy Frost working with Hogan and King in grapple drills. When I say big, I mean he's FRIGGIN ENORMOUS. And when I say FRIGGIN ENORMOUS, I say he edges out Hoges' in terms of size, as well as muscle. His biceps are HUGE. I'm struggling to work out why some wouldn't have him best 22 come round one - IMO he is in mine! Bloke can play.

Haven't seen too much of Ben Newton yet, not enough ball skills to work out who is who (see, I do it based on level of talk on the field).

Some changed up drills that I haven't really seen (you see as I type this they've progressed to using the footy's now). I like it. Bit of a ball movement drill now, lot of it run and carry based with handball, trying to get around an opponent (one of the coaches, can't recognise from here).

More ball movements, this time utilising foot skills.

Now they're starting to really use the footy.

Longer kicks now, up to about 20-25m.

One thing I've always seemed to notice with Hogan is he uses the ball very well, always hitting up teammates.

Noticing teammates telling JKH to kick through the footy. Seems trivial but if you ease the footy to a teammate he could be susceptible to opposition interception.

Preferably you want to hit it low and hard. One to take close note of there.

Running now. They start off running 250s (that's their term - 250m runs). Hogan and Frost are impressive early on as they catch up to Viney and Evans on their first run. Up the front, it's Tom McDonald (who else?) and Howe leading the way as the first group.

Perhaps time trial time indications?

May well have been McDonald/Viney/Howe/Evans/Hogan/Frost as a top six. Who knows.

Hogan has impressed me the most. As a big hulking forward you shouldn't have any right to keep up with midfielders in front of you and hold the midfielders behind you at bay. He manages it. The bloke is an athlete.

Training just about to conclude so I bugger off to Edwin's where I am now.

Appreciate the repost.

"HE'S SPINNING THE BALL ON HIS FINGER!!! TAKE IT!!! TAKE THE BALL!!!" Classic Krusty.

Nothing like a Simpsons quote to provide a little context to a report...

Sam Frost sounds like a beast of a man...

He's tall, broad and really really cut. He's not the mass of big buckets Holland is his prime, but he's a pretty decent specimen of an athlete. Looks well built for his size and age. Tom McDonald looks a little stronger than last year as well I think. Hoping we have two key posts in these guys. Not the most skilled but with the right athleticism and attitude.

That's nothing.

Mark "Jacko" Jackson used do that trick while doing handstands during a game.

(OK I exaggerate a bit )

That is true but with a bad back any movement that is a little wonky can harm the back muscles

AFAIK, Hogan's back is completely symptomatic. He experiences pain in his back, but there is nothing structural or physical that comes up on scans etc, not since the original stress fracture.

An awkward kicking action won't make it worse.

his injury was from a hit to his back, not from running.

Hogan had problems with his back from junior days in Perth. I'm not in any way an expert in the physio world but was told it was due to growth spurts. I'm sure Weber and other Demonlanders in the physio field may be able to provide some better analysis on this but it is common knowledge he had some issues

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
