Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I read somewhere that there is an unwritten rule against tagging in the TAC.

I find this bizarre. To provide the best education for juniors, taking this skill out of coaches arsenal is to the detriment of players. I use the example of Blease who in my opinion could have benefited at a TAC level a coach telling him to forget about collecting the ball and concentrate on shutting down his opponent. Only run off when your team has the ball.

Why wouldn't you teach real 2 way running at junior level and stopping techniques when it is such a big part of AFL.

There are a number of issues like this, and while I understand that they don't want to smother the talent there is nothing wrong with good old one on one footy as long as there is no scragging.

They also don't flood or stack the defence which I don't mind.

It means that bigger stronger forwards can dominate if the opposition don't have a suitable defender.

This is another reason why the draft age should be increased so that these players can spend time in state leagues where there is more defensive pressure required.

This kid has STAR qualities. He is skilled, fast, athletic, smart and importantly gives a second & third effort. That is the definitive of what us required at AFL level. No injury history.

McCartin is a one effort type. Past injuries and weight needs controlling.

We need quality mids and now.

Brayshaw at 2 & Laverde at 3 for me.

Laverde appears to have more more arrows to his quiver than Blease, his forward marking, run and carry, and size are all equal or superior to Sam.

Its so obvious its not really funny.

Not sure on his two way running, he does have to work on his tank to become a midfielder.

What I haven’t seen from him is whether he can win a lot of his own ball in midfield. He looks like he could be a very good flanker/winger, but if I compare him to Bontempelli last year, Bontempelli spent time in the centre square for the Knights post champs.

He showed the ability to win clearances and operate very well in traffic (some of Bontempelli’s stuff last year was very much Pendlebury like) as a big bodied midfielder with pace. Laverde does appear to have good spatial awareness and that ability to create time and space, so he could potentially operate quite well in traffic, but that area of his game is an unknown (to me) at this stage.

I've got his nickname down pat already...

Laverde is no Blease... he attacks, defends, creates, evades and is bigger ... has the same pace.

I just thought I'd throw it out there that Blease looked very impressive.

Laverde is explosive like Blease, how many explosive players have turned into stars?

Judd, Dangerfield, Rioli.. Either way it is a short list compared to those who fail.

All the same, I am not sure McCartin is any safer choice than Laverde.

But, he does have a very clean set of hands for a forward.

Every time I hear this guys name I think of that baby that was mudered - Jaidyn Leskie.

I'm not sure I'm ready for another Jayden to go with Jayden Hunt.

I'm getting used to Jay and Jesse. Lynden took a while to get used to. I can handle Aidan and Dean's. Not huge on Jordie's and Billy's.

A pair of Jayden's including one with pick 3 in the draft. No thanks.

Yeah, let's not draft by first name. There must be a better strategy somewhere.....

We have a few too many Jack's for my liking....

its not that they're too quick, its that some don't learn.

I love this kid. So creative and just able to turn a game.

i think he and brayshaw will prove the standouts of this draft.

MFC TAKE NOTE ... don't be seduced by AFL.COM Paddy McCartin marketing exercise. He is a punt. We don't need to take punts.

Laverde has all the requirements to be a STAR. We need his talent, pace, skills and direct style. Too good to miss.

You're right about Jayden being a terrible name.

Lets not get him.

One is enough.

I'm sure the recruiters take all this stuff into account.

Laverde is also a punt 'Norm', how many games have you seen him play?

...and as 'Nut' will say, they are all a punt at this age.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
