So just to be clear, when he is assaulted he is not entitled to defend himself, or he is not entitled to be out in nightclubs? Or both?

Saying that the fact he is not the instigator is "besides the point" purely because he's a sportsman is, on its own, a crazy thing to say.

No doubt the mean man in the nightclub just started throwing fists around at poor, innocent Mitch, and Mitch had no choice but to deck him in self defence.

We could do a hell of a lot worse than Robinson. Gets a lot of the ball and is as hard as a cats head. Sure, he comes with a parole officer but I'd welcome both.

I would have no problems with this if we were a Hawthorn, Sydney or Geelong where a Joel Selwood or Luke Hodge would be able to pull Mitch's coat if he was being a deadhead. At the clubs, Mitch wouldn't be a guiding light.
Jeff Garlett might be considered a fairly spicy meatball but I think both Mitch and Jeff are too risky a proposition for a club with such an inherently weak culture. We all saw what the influence that Beamer and Col had on the group. To reintroduce that 'party boy' element again would be dangerous.

It may sound like I'm making excuses for him. Not my intention. What I'm saying is a) I don't know the bloke, and b) every individual incident has its own set of circumstances that I don't know.

I'm not going to join the chorus of torch bearers in labelling him a DH. If that's excuse making, so be it.

He's a young guy whose obviously made some questionable decisions along the way. He has a young family now and people deserve a chance to mature and make good. Including him.

He had the child when he was out until 5am when he got into a fight. Now im not saying he isnt allowed out but if I was his partner I wouldn't be impressed with him being out until then when u have a newborn.

I dont think we need him and especially with Gartlett there. Keep them away from each other. Besides he probably doesnt want to come to our club. Maybe he should have signed the contract he got offered mid year instead of saying no and holding out for more money. Sort of backfired on him a bit.

you dont need to be a rocket scientist to know that Mitch's career is hanging by a thread. If he was picked up there would obviously be clauses in his contract regarding behavior, and incentives or a couple more years should he be good. He is hard at the contest and gets the opposition player and sometimes the ball, he would be a much better asset than quite a few on our list. i think he would certainly be worth the risk, after all its his career that is in jeopardy should he fail.

I g'tee we won't bother picking him up, if we wanted him we could've already done it for a bag of chips with Garlett, it was reported we looked into both at the start of trade period, obviously Garlett committed to coming to us & whatever interest we may or may not have had in Robbo would've ceased there imo. You recruit maybe one of these types in an offseason, not 2. Garlett has much greater upside than him & I'd rather Robbo's potential spot in our 22 go to blokes like Kent, Salem, JKH, Picks 2, 3 etc, we have enough better character senior players plus Roos to guide them along with young guns Viney & Tyson.

Robbo will not be a difference maker for us. The experienced recruits in Lumumba & Garlett could be however, they've shown and achieved a lot more in the past.

Lastly, I know quite a few current Carlton boys very well due to their regular dining habits at a well known Carlton restaurant they frequent. He really is a DH in person, of the highest & dumbest order. Plain as day if you ever get the pleasure to get to know the man.

I think they both need a fresh environment to have a chance of working out any off-field issues and for them to be recruited by the same club would only be detrimental.

North Melbourne allegedly engaged a minder to accompany Wayne Carey - but there's a big difference in looking after one of the best players the competition has ever seen and a player of questionable skills and quality.
