Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Josh Kennedy Revelation

2, 3 and 23 would have to be two players. A Kennedy + Mitchell type.

Roos was very clear last year that we needed to use our picks carefully, and that pick 2 was more valuable to us if it brought in two quality players rather than one.

Seems unusual to throw out that idea one year later by using three picks on one player, after a four win season. I'd be ecstatic if we got Kennedy but remain hopeful it's part of a bigger plan and not as black & white as all 3 picks for Kennedy and nothing else.

The reason hawks, syd, Coll, etc young players develop into guns and ours generally fail is because they have older experienced quality players who train at the highest quality and intensity to imitate. They are forced to be better. We have very few who drag the younger players along with them in the right direction. In my opinion, we have kids already, let's take a risk and get another player (top 5 in the comp at that) to lead and educate them. Kids can't teach kids

I'm speculating now, but would have to be a mad scramble to get anything noteworthy done.

I just can't see the club putting its eggs all in the one basket, without a back-up plan, so I'm still expecting at least one A grader.

If this does not happen ill probably burn down my house as this trade period is [censored] with my head. Why did i take time off these last 2 weeks?

Some supporters may get a shock for the compensation we will be giving Sydney, but you have to pay overs to get these sorts of deals done.

I can reveal exclusively to all Demonlanders that part of the compensation the club will be giving Sydney is that, with effect from the close of the trade period (Thursday at 2.00pm), this site will be known as Swaneeland and our banner will feature the images of Bob Skilton, "Moose" Henwood and Paul Roos grinning like a Cheshire Cat. Our colour scheme will henceforth be red and white.

As the OP says "you have to pay overs to get these sorts of deals done".

Josh Kennedy is my favourite player and also my future husband (nobody else knows this yes though), but even I think that 2+3 is too much.

He is a genuine A grade midfielder and will make us a much better team instantly, but he is 26 and I don't think we'll be in a premiership window while he's at his prime.

I'm all for immediate improvement, we desperately need it, but we also need to keep an eye on the future. We can't be throwing it all away for short term mediocrity. We need long term sustained success.

We arent recruiting for the next flag, We are recruiting to save our club in the next 3 years and protect our young talent allowing them to develop. A kennedy is exactly what we need. Will take the best tagger freeing up Jones and Vince and Tyson and Salem.

If we recruit for the next flag you are talking about a team of 18yo's and that won't work. We;ll be dead as a club by then.

Please can everyone read the thread. I said 2 & 3. Where did pick 23 come from? I am already in deep water, let alone people making up things like adding 23 in as well.

Deep water?

For a decision a rumour suggested the club will make tomorrow at 3pm?

The merits of the non-trade can be non-discussed in this non-forum without the non-club falling apart.

It's called debate and the internet thrives on it...

Debate and porn.

Grumpy cat?!

Cross, Jones, Vince, Dunn, Jamar - we have a few who can lead by example rather than importing someone primarily for this reason. We also have a much better coaching structure than we have had for many years who also fulfil a mentoring role.

Cross jones yes,

Jamar rarely on the track, and is in no way a leader of the intensity required to become an elite mid.

Vince is not a leader, he is a gun, and trains well but would not be one to take a player under his wing and drag them to greatness. That comes from all reports out of Adelaide and what I witnessed at a lot of trainings this preseason

Dunn until this year would of struggled for a game at most clubs, yes he encourages and pushes hard at training, but his best efforts are again nowhere near elite

Kennedy is elite, and his training is elite from all reports

My gut feel is that it will be two players - One A grade and one potentially A Grade.

You realise you're an abberation :)

Shame we cant throw a few players in

Statistically not much different - Scythe. Personally I agree I think Kennedy is better but when you look from a numbers perspective, they match up evenly.

Beams - 24 years old

110 games

118 goals

Ave. 28 disp. In the past 3 years

1 Premiership

1 All Australian

1 x B&F

Kennedy - 26 years old

1 Premiership

1 All Australian

Nasher.. If this trade is indeed for pick 2 and 3 and goes ahead can you please set up a permanent thread entitled "my god we could have had.... (then list the next 10 players taken after pick 1).

The moaning and "what could have been" will keep that thread going years after OD and I are well and truly dead and buried.

I can confirm that we are definitely giving up picks 2 & 3 for Kennedy and 39. The pick we will receive will go to Collingwood to get Lumumba. The Clark deal seems to be very messy thanks to Collingwood, expect to get next to nothing for Clark.

FWIW, Swans supporters outraged that it would "only" be 2 & 3.

From Sydney's perspective, I understand their reluctance. Why they would entertain the idea of losing their best midfielder - after losing Malceski in the same year. They've just played in a Grand Final... their time is now.
As others have mentioned, Kennedy may well be 30+ by the time we're in a position to seriously challenge for a premiership. Pick 2 and 3 is too much to give up in my opinion, but realistically, it's the only thing that would get the deal done.
Looks more like a lose/lose trade to me, but that's just my opinion.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
