With the inclusion of Garlett i would love to see Kent spend more time in the center circle and around the wings. I believe his pace and powerful strength would be real asset in and around the stoppages as he is able to break away and kick long goals as he showed this year.

He was originally drafted as a midfielder because he won the Jack Clarke Medal as a solid inside midfielder in the colts which is equivalent to the Brownlow. He missed all of the pre season due to a knee injury so that really halted his first half of the year but i thought he showed real promise towards the end of the year.

Still needs to work on his consistency but that will come with more experience. Looking forward to him having his first full pre season as i believe he has huge potential and probably goes a bit underrated compared to the likes of Tyson Viney Salem JKH Toumpas...

I love how he backs himself and takes the game on with his blistering speed something that we could use in the midfield. I just would love to see him move up field with short burst up forward aswell.

Thoughts?

I can see Garlett closer to goal and his bloke up the ground a bit, be it at half forward or wing.

Needs to work on his consistency an endurance. I expect to see Garlett play up forward, with Kent pushing up from the flank onto the wing. Same with JKH. The coaches should just rotate the 3 to disrupt match ups and keep them fresh to use their pace to break games open.

Not sure Kent is good enough to become an inside midfielder at AFL level. At this stage he doesn't have the focus and quick hands to play there successfully IMO. His weapon is his pace, so play him outside to utilise it. Definitely excited for his 2015 though. Could be a game breaker for us!

My 6 year old son's favourite player and hails from the mighty Perth Demons to boot. Hope he becomes a star.

Seems to have the tough nugget, left foot characteristics of a few of the Swans midfielders. Might not be out of the question.

An absolute gem. Just about the only pre-Taylor recruitment success story so late into the draft for our club.

I really hope he takes the next step after a solid, uninterrupted pre-season. He has flashy moments of brilliance (Port and Essendon games) but goes missing in others. I think Garlett will probably take his role from this year, so Roos might have another idea for him.

Surely one of the highlights of year.. Still gives me goosebumps

Great footage. It's a shame that that was probably the last time that Chip patted him on the back!

I believe the midfield had always been the plan for him.

Very limited this season by his preseason injury but he has pace, a mighty left foot and a real arrogant streak which I love!

Well, he lives with the big Hoges so let's keep them both happy, shall we?

From my mail the boys are paying a decent whack where they are living in East Melbourne and Hoges is looking at buying a house next year in Melbourne somewhere

As long as he is in the team im happy.. This bloke could be what we need, just needs the right backing and development, could be a genuine a grader.

In his final game I remember him sprinting into the f50 near the boundary line and squaring up a pass to Macca twice.

It was great to c.

The week before he would have had a shot for goal probably being a bit selfish.

I am guessing but the coaches probably chatted with him to look for options when he is sprinting down into the f50, which is exactly what he did.

IMO he seems to be very coachable and listens to what the coaches say.

I am really looking forward to seeing what he can do in 15.

Yep, lotta Kent love on DL, he has shown several glimpses, really hope 2015 shows he can do it regularly/consistently, he has several attributes we could really use on the field if he puts it all together.

Chappy mark two....but with more pace.

Love the kid, has as higher ceiling as anyone on our list.

He's way off that at the moment and very overrated here on output to date. 2015 will be the make or break year for him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
