Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's stating the obvious, but he will surely go down as the best value trade of the season, if not the decade (he cost us picks 61 and 79).

The fact that it's Carlton we screwed over makes it all the sweeter.

He's kicked 25.21 so far and adds so much more besides, and makes us dangerous and competitive near goal even when Hogan's not there.

Wasn't so much as trade as him being sacked by Carlton and us giving them a cursory draft pick for the rights to him. He picked us over Essendon and I'm very glad he did and I think a lot of clubs would be feeling foolish not to have sounded him out. Time will tell I guess.

Some players need to be moved on for the greater good. That might have been Garlett at Carlton. It's just very unlikely that we got the chance to pick someone up in that situation and a credit to everyone but mainly to Jeff that he's back enjoying his footy.

Scored at least one goal in all 12 games so far, multiple goals in 9 from 12. Remarkable consistency from a small forward in a struggling side.

If he only had scored more than one goal against St. Kilda (when he had only three kicks) then we would have been singing the song two weeks in a row (however maybe the St. Kilda loss was just what we needed to inspire everybody (especially Garlett) to lift against the Cats!

Considering how much Melbourne scores this output is phenomenal. Only Eddie Betts has played better as a small forward this year. Garlett would be knocking on the door of all-Australian if Betts wasn't having the season he is. Fantastic work from a guy not many teams wanted.

And sweeter still that both Garlett and Betts are no longer with Carlton!

Jeffy played himself into some form yesterday. Was rushing and fumbling everything early, but after he jagged his first, the confidence returned. He's been a fantastic pick-up and was exactly what we needed in our forward half; we now threaten in the air and when the ball finds the turf.

Has speed and nouse and hopefully many more years in the red and blue!

Just meh.

Strikes me as a player who's cooked.

Better to develop JKH and Kent.

Sorry Jumbo i had to have a little laugh at this.

Anyways fair to say Jeffy has been a massive bargain for us considering the set of butter knives we gave Carlton lol. Our leading goal kicker and seems like he is really enjoying his footy and getting the balance right off field. Credit to Paul Roos for taking the risk on Garlett and showing huge faith in him because its paying off so far.

Could be on his way to a 40 goals this year.

Meanwhile the pick they got off us for Garlett.

SteakKnives1.jpg

In real terms, they passed on the later pick & used the earlier pick on Clem Smith... whose longevity in the game is limited, in my opinion.

Especially these days, with the tackle almost being outlawed, a poor man's Byron Pickett has no place.

And many of those 21 behinds were absolutely gettable - he should have at least 35 goals to date.

Absolute bargain. The most exciting player to watch on our list - I love the bloke.

Our recruiting department has gone from completely hopeless to seriously good since the appointment of Viney, Taylor and (most significantly) Roos.

Let's hope Goodwin is as good as Roos at encouraging similar players to Melbourne. GCS Bennell anyone?

I didn't know Garlett played such a high pressure brand of footy; I always had him pegged as a downhill skier. He creates opportunities through hard work and really classy skills - reminds me a lot of the early days of Aaron Davey.

I was happy with the trade at the time, but it's still exceeded my expectations in terms of output. He's been excellent and I hope it continues.

I wouldn't put him quite on that level, but I see what you're saying. His defensive efforts are a lot better than I'd expected (not having watched him closely at Carlton).

Still can't believe how good he is for the price we paid.

It really feels like robbery, but since that casts Carlton as the victim, I'm cool with that.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
