Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Robbie Flower's greatest goal

Just watched that 16 minutes of Robbie Highlights.

Wow...

He was the greatest player.

I do not rate the Brownlow because R Flower never won it.

What a disgrace.

Punished for playing in ordinary sides obviously. Personally I find it more unfathomable that he only won one Bluey!

Robert Flower Tribute

Just something I put together over the past couple of nights.

Hope it brings back some great memories, or for the younger fans, does justice to how good this bloke was as a player.

Thanks Ash for reminding us again how Flower was able to make the Impossible and implausible look effortlessly elegant and sublime.

Hey All,

Go to the around 4:34 on the tribute - I do believe that Robbie is sticking his knee into the back of Andrew Demitriou. If it is possible I love him even more.

Something that stands out so much watching these video's is how good Robbie was on both sides of the body. Snapping goals from 40 and pin-pointing passes equally well on both feet. What I had never noticed was, while equally good on both sides, seemed to favour the right by foot, and left hand when handballing / bouncing. Clear to see why he was impossible to tackle - his opponent always had to commit no matter which way he was going because he was going to be damaging whichever side he was on.

Geez I'd love to see another dees player with 1/2 his skills!

He had the rather happy knack of making an otherwise very talented opposition look a tad pedestrian !!

It's not without reason many a player have said he ( Tulip ) was the hardest player to play against.

My fav clip is the baulk and then bullet pass lace out against the Pies at Vic Park at about 2.21 in the video.

How many goals do you think Robbie would have kicked if he had a career as a permanent full forward?

We would have sacrificed the graceful 5 bounce runs down the wing of course, but with his pack marking ability, judgment of the ball in the air, and sublime skills below his knees if the ball was on the ground, I could see his goal tally doubling over his career.

As it was, 315 goals in 272 games from predominately a wingman is an outstanding career.

Pretty sure that is Ackerly.

good get - I think i can make out 10 on his back which indeed makes it Ackerly not Demetriou.

I rephrase my comment - I would have loved Robbie more had he put his knee into Demetriou's back

Pretty sure that is Ackerly.

he got them both, Ackerly & Demitriou, & he got Jeff Sarau with a knee to the head whilst climbing his shoulder to mark, one day at Moorabbin.

bath'd Bartlett when on him, bathed Daicos on him, bathed Glendinning often playing as a CHB...

I love highlights packages, but I have to remind myself that Robbie did this sort of stuff just about every game, televised or not.

I'd forgotten how flat out quick he was. The evasions, the side steps, they're embedded in my memory, but he was fast, too.

Fast all day too.

First Q or Last Q R Flower was still able to run hard whilst bouncing the ball in either hand.

Much appreciated Ash and others who have provided the vision that I'm sure has proved to those who never had the pleasure of seeing him play, exactly how great he was and reminding those of us who saw him of exactly the same thing.

The vision will remain with me forever but especially tomorrow.

This mysterious Robert Flower goal against Essendon at Windy Hill has got me intrigued.

I'm doing my best to hunt down footage of it, even with the mixed reports of its existence.

What would help is to narrow down the season it was kicked, so I'm hoping with some help of people here that were at the game, I can perhaps do that.

There are only 6 games in the time frame we are working with where Flower kicked goals at Windy Hill.

I'm hoping that with a bit of info about those games, those that attended might be able to narrow it down.

1975 - Rd 3, Flower kicked 1 goal as Essendon won by 17 points.

1976 - Rd 3, Robbie kicked 2 goals as the Demons won by 35 points. Greg Wells kicked 5.0 while Ross Brewer kicked 4.5.

1977 - Rd 4, Another early season meeting, this time with the Dons winning a close one by only 4 points. Brian Walsh kicked 7 and Simon Madden 4 for the winners, with the scores indicating Melbourne had their chances kicking 16.24 to Essendons 19.10. Flower slotted 2 goals.

1978 - Rd 20, A late season game that saw Melbourne win a high scoring game by 6 points, 21.10 to 19.16. Flower kicked 4 goals that day.

1980 - Rd 10, Flower kicked 1 goal as Essendon ran over the top of Melbourne with a 6 goals to nil last quarter, winning by 44 points.

1983 - Rd 9, Robbie slotted 3 goals in a day that saw Essendon win by 34 points [22 goals to 17], with Steven Copping kicking 6 for the Dons.

So I don't know if results or other performances help you guys remember which game it was.

My guess is the 1977, 1978 or 1980 game perhaps.

But over to you guys that were there on the day.

Any ideas?

Ash, I don't recall Melbourne winning that day or it being close, so I'm guessing it's 1975. Also, I'm pretty sure World Of Sports were showing match highlights in normal vision by 1977. Hope that helps.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim
