Scrap the Sub

The sub is another ridiculous idea. Beggers belief really. In this day and age the AFL chop and change rules - yet keep the bounce.

The majority of the time the bounce is uneven, goes sides ways and halts momentum. Throw the friggin thing up you muppets.

nah, just go to a round ball, then it will bounce normally, & we can play international rules against Ireland. get rid of the bump & the head high tackle, & the handball, & it will be real football.

Getting the ball out of the centre is arguably the most important part of the game. Takes pressure of defenders, gives forwards a chance - puts pressure on their defenders, etc. So for mine, to have the most important part of the game compromised for the sake of keeping a bounce - is ridiculous.

Getting the ball out of the centre is arguably the most important part of the game. Takes pressure of defenders, gives forwards a chance - puts pressure on their defenders, etc. So for mine, to have the most important part of the game compromised for the sake of keeping a bounce - is ridiculous.

I'd be happy to get the game back to Pre press & flood. the bounce is our natural game.

this rolling mall & presses & flooding zones is too much. it squashes individual creativity & brilliance by shutting off room to create. the game as a spectacle is decreased by it.

as is the excitement & the spontaneity that keeps us kept us on the edge our our seats.

reduce the running capacity of the players so they do fatigue, as once was the norm, & watch as more space opens up & creative juggernauts like Plugger return to the fray...

Then the issue of rotation crops up. Rotation is a tricky issue.

But unlimited rotations would also mean sides not rotating could find an advantage - somehow.

And if more rotations meant players lifting intensity, then injuries would slow that down.

I agree with scrapping the sub, but if the AFL did that, I'd prefer they stop regulating rotation.

I think we have to find the balance where players are no longer able "on mass" to run from the back pocket to forward pocket & back again Re general "field play"... once the players can't maintain that gamestyle of pressing back all the time, offensive players like the specialist forwards will return to the game. The Lockett's, Daicos's, etc can then come back Not before time & they will demand the respect of Having a full time minder to run with them.

At this moment we have teams full of midfielders playing in about 10 of the 18 positions on the field. Bring our game back closer to positional play with specialist players & true Key position players.

subs can come on for 20 mins in case of temporary injury/concussion - otherwise, if you're off, you're off.

if you want positional play, where forwards are forwards and backs are backs, where goal sneaks can survive in a pocket and skinny kids can run on a wing, thats how you do it.

I love this. "Leave the game alone"...but get rid of the sub rule.

The game evolves so the rules have to evolve with it. Coaches are paid to win games, not make the game enjoyable. Rules keep changing because to not do so would allow the coaches to turn the game into an unwatchable mess.

On topic, it seemed to me that the "congestion problem" wasn't as obvious this year as previous anyway. Have I just got used to it or have the coaches (or the rules committee) found a way to beat congestion?

I'd like the sub to go. Re reducing the chance of winning to almost 0% if a player goes does early, I don't believe that for a second. In fact just this year our opponent had 2 players down in the first half, three for the game, and still won.

Rules keep changing because to not do so would allow the coaches to turn the game into an unwatchable mess.

And the AFL - not wanting to be second fiddle to any of them - makes sure it is the only people with the true power and ambition to do just that.

Bring back the good old days then there was just 18 players on the field per side with 2 reserves.
