Disagree to an extent. A lot of deals are done before trade week.

Players often nominate the club they want to go to before trade week as well.

I wouldn't be leaving everything to trade week, or you end up with other clubs' scraps.

Some of the best deals are hatched and executed much earlier in the season and at good clubs are kept quiet until they are announced during trade week. Buddy Franklin is one example.

youre probably right irt the T$ deals...and "agreements in principle" but some deals go south left and all over the shop once certain catalyst trades evolve and cement and then theres opportunity etc.

Little id suggest is truly sewn up til it starts unfoldind. So many variables !! imho

Clearly some deals are done late in trade week, some early and some even before it starts.

As they say nothing is final til the papers are lodged.

OK, so now Beams might be going to Sydney, and the word in the media is that the "sick dad" story is secondary to the money.

Beams is EXACTLY what we need.

Get to work boys.

A bit like Mitch and his sick grandma.

Or choosing Geelong because his Mrs got into a course down there.

After we paid for her course in Melbourne.

Interesting development, if true. I'd prefer we took a younger bloke like Shiel before a bloke like Beams.

Also, LOL if he landed at Sydney. Eddie would have a meltdown.

Collingwood would demand picks 2 and 3. They're hopeless.

I still can't believe how they're already discussing what they'll trade pick 23 for on BF forums. Um, news flash, the reason the deal hasn't happened yet is because we ain't giving you our second rounder. Otherwise the deal would be done by now.

Why should we pick him up? So he can get depression, retire, and then go to whoever he wants for basically nothing?

Now that Collingwood is officially not dealing with Brisbane, do we try and recreate the Clark play from a few years back? (Hopefully with better results).

Logic being that I just can't see him going back to Collingwood after all this has transpired. GC and GWS probably favourites, but we have the picks that could satisfy Collingwood...

Just a thought.

I thought he said his dad wanted the brothers playing at the same club.

i thought clark said his grandma was sick.......................oh that's right, now i remember

The whole reason they declined (stupidly) is they want a high pick AND a ready-made player in the Aish/Hanley/Redden/Mayes mould.

Good on Brisbane sticking to their guns.

3 and 12 would get it done for Beams.

Except he'd practically be training next door to the Magpies and wants to go to play with his brother.

Yeah, I get that, doesn't hurt to offer.

Beams is exactly the type of player we need running through the midfield.

Agreed 100%. I'd love to have him here, and he'd know Dawes & Lamumba. Collingwood would agree to picks 3 and 12 as well, I'd reckon.

But he seems pretty keen on going to Queensland... just have a bad feeling about intercepting that desire after the entire Clark debacle... it'll take a while to get over that one.

i agree. Beams doesnt want to stay in melbourne. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Does he play with the pies for 1 more year then walk or does he have a year out.

Please see my post in the Trengove thread as an update on this. It's too long for me to repeat.

Beams is now a live target as I've explained

I would be cautious targeting him if he really wants to go somewhere else, look how that ended last time!

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
