Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We will need to see how he did it praha (I hope he will run through expenditure at the AGM again as he did last year) but he always said we would turn a small profit. He said it at the start of the year and it appears to have come true.
I guess the realization that we were deplorable came much later in the year (take your pick of either the game against the Lions or the Giants) rather than in round 1 so at least some reasonable crowds turned up to our matches.

Am I meant to be impressed Dee Dee?

because I am not.

Winning games and finals impresses me not snobs in 19th Century blazers.

I do not care how unimpressed you are! I did not post to impress.

I just mention the fact that the MFC blazer is on show in the Blazer Bar not at the lost dogs home - that's all!

(However if you were referring to my aside about the MCC blazer, those who play/played cricket for the MCC are certainly not snobs - it's the official uniform)!

However on topic I reiterate, I am mighty impressed by PJ's work.

Yes to the above line and we will retire on the subject of the blazers. I dislike them with rare intensity Dee Dee

All things considered, that is a fantastic result.

Just imagine the bottom line if we were a finals team with prime time games?

Even a 10 win season would boost the coffers immeasurably.

Only a true god could have turned a profit in the 2014 season for the MFC

I think if you look back at it our game attendances were quite good early in the year.

Yeah but mostly as the away side.

Our home games included West Coast, Gold Coast, Sydney, Bulldogs, North, GWS, Brisbane (Docklands) with NT games against Freo & Port. Our only real "money" games were Collingwood and Geelong.

I think we make a fair amount out of the NT games and we had reasonable crowds early on for home games.

The reality is that despite having a diabolical fixture ("another" 7 home games against interstate clubs) we still look like posting a profit.

It's a minor miracle.

The devil is always in the detail re profit.

Amongst a number of things PJ has done is that he has cut approx. $ 1.5 to 2mil out of the football administration costs without it adversely impacting the club. Makes you wonder what was happening under Stynes/McLardy and Schwab.

I can recall Schwab was very good at heralding a "small profit" in past years when it was due to the generous donations from supporters rather than a viable business operation.

Jackson is at least steadying the ship.

Our home games included West Coast, Gold Coast, Sydney, Bulldogs, North, GWS, Brisbane (Docklands) with NT games against Freo & Port. Our only real "money" games were Collingwood and Geelong.

Break even at the MCG is about 20k, so let's be conservative and say 23k.

v WC: 22K

v GC: 17K

V Syd: 23k

v WB: 36K

V Port: sold home game, profit

V Pies: 68k

V North: 28k

V Freo: sold home game, profit

V Geelong: 36K

V Lions: 18k (Etihad)

V GWS: 17K

So of our 11 home games we've seemingly achieved a profit, in most cases a small one, in 7 of them.

Compare to last year:

2013:

v Port: 22k

V WC: 18K

V GWS: 20K

V GC: 13K (urgh...)

V Hawks: 28K

V Pies: 50K

V Bulldogs: 21K

V Syd: 26K

V Brisbane: Sold home game, profit

V Norf: 18K (Etihad)

V Freo: 13K (urghhh...)

That's 4 games where we've broken a profit, and consider we had one less sold home game, a crowd of 18K less v the Pies, two games of 13K, an Etihad home crowd of 18K.

We've done okay this year considering. Replace the Bulldogs and Sydney home games with Carlton and Richmond/Essendon and it would have been even better.

I think even PJ acknowledged the club was in a fairly good place financially last year. I believe the only debt the club carried was for the buying of licenses for our Pokies. There was a hell of a lot of one off payments to staff last year. He did tweak the structure which was needed but we had a good base.

One thing you need CS for is the foundation heros, the cleaned the debt up and gave the club a chance. They did try to stuff it up but thankfully we landed a good administrator to put us back on track.

You can take pot shots at cam but he Did wipe out 5 mill of our debt, also he Did unite the mfc back with the mcc that give the mfc extra million dollars a year, so in terms of bussiness cam was not that bad, but he Did lose his way, but he had tied all his success on the team improving on field, when that did not happen and when the kangaroo court happened over tanking, where the mfc were the only team investergated and punished

From a financial standpoint Schwab was average to good. The debt that was wiped out was due to the generosity of supporters (and the work of Jimmy), it wasn't genius accounting and administration, it was being good at holding out the tin. His work with the MCC was good and his securing of sponsors was solid (pity the sponsors themselves weren't... energy watch -.-'). Aside from the footy department, he left the club in a reasonable financial position, better than what it was when he got it.

As you say his success was linked to the team improving - they didn't and in the end the administration got too involved with the footy department.

You would have to be dreaming that MFC were in a good financial position last year given we were cap in hand to pay for poor previous decisions of the past.

And it should be remembered that the Foundation Heroes and not Schwab should receive the credit. It's a pity that the FHs financial generosity was poorly used by Schwab in a bloated and inefficient administration.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahah!! You are Joking mate...

CS left this club teetering on the edge of oblivion after he took a 3rd contract and was asked to leave....the debt was at about 5 mill when he left with a playing list in tatters....

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
