Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree that confidential info shouldn't be posted. However, knocking a bloke for trying to provide some info to fellow DL's, when most read this site to try and get some info, is a bit rich, don't you think.

I have seen plenty of crap posted on here on DL and on some threads I have amused my self by posting some as well.

However this attack on GNF is unwarranted. I don't care whether everything he posts doesn't eventuate, that could be down to a number of reasons, but at least you have something to read and perhaps get excited about.

How could GNF have known that pick 12, which was possibly to be used in other trades, which was to come for JT, would suddenly be off the table, as a result of a too strenuous medical test and subsequent X-Ray?

As for his riddles, he is having a bit of fun, so what, it has created plenty of interest and fun for others in playing along.

Lighten up.

I agree that it's just a bit of fun, but I also wouldn't begrudge DLers for being frustrated by little games. If you don't want people to get frustrated, don't play games.

Anyway, I certainly wasn't saying he would know anything about pick 12, merely that expect people to get frustrated (Exhibit A: the past few pages) when the trades don't happen.

The "don't deal with Collingwood" message has been trumpeted loud and clear every year for the past decade. Every year there are clubs too stupid to listen.

Why we have spent two weeks going back and forth over a player they don't want is beyond me. We should have put a deadline on that deal, presumably for last Friday, and moved on when it didn't come to pass. What players like Varoce and Beams are doing is no concern of ours, so not sure why it affects our deals.

The fact that we haven't moved on makes me think we'll do something stupid and give up pick 23 for Lumumba, as well as getting nothing for Clark.

It's been a bad day for the MFC, the disappointment and trade setback is significant. I understand that some will take this disappoint out on those who offered hope. This is natural. However, all is not lost. Let's see what Roos pulls out of the hat in the coming days.

I note that the same people who have abused me (not that I care) are the same who smashed me for six months when I announced the absolute arrival of Roos in May 2013. Life is too short, we all love our club and yearn success. We are all on the same team. Personally despite my reservations on FA I remain optimistic, the most optimistic I have been since 2006.

Let's hope tomorrow is a better day for our great club.

Oh god some Collingwood muppet just rang trade radio and said Watts and Lumumba would be a good direct swap!

FMD

Don't laugh. The way Watts gets bagged on DL i reckon there'd be plenty of support for that trade!

You suggested yesterday that we're looking at possibly 2 trades. I assume one is now dead in the water due to the Trengove disaster, but is the other one still in play?

I just can't see how we can make anything big happen at this late stage. We haven't even sorted the Clark/Lamumba trade, and that was discussed before the trade period even started.

Disappointing day, but whats new!

Yes, they have offered pick 21 for Stanley!!

No way will they give us their 1st round especially if Stanley is on their radar. Perhaps Geelong has word that Varcoe is hesitating so can't be bothered trying to make the Mitch deal work and Stanley is a better risk/reward bet. Be prepared to be 'stuck' with Mitch.

Maybe we should have played harder, earlier but we now seem to have got ourselves piggy backing on other trades and losing control of the Mitch/HL/Frost trades.

Motto: never, ever trade with Collingwood...if they had accepted Geelongs 2nd round 30+++ pick (for HL) in the first place the deal would have been done on day !

Happy to be stuck with Mitch...Stanley can't play...

So we try to accommodate MC by sending him where he wants to go when we should have just sent him where we would get the best deal.. To top it off we try to get ruthless by trying to trade a loyal guy against his wishes and it blows up in our face spectacularly.

FAIL FAIL FAIL.

Let's just see how the week ends, SD.

MFCSS: The Varcoe/Lamumba/Clark trade will fall apart when Collingwood drag their heals, when they attempt to force our hand and get pick 23 off us for Lamumba.

We'll then lose Clark for nothing.

It would be truly short-sighted by the MFC if we didn't have a back-up plan if something were to go against us in trade discussions. Quite remarkable if we were basing our plans on the perfect trade week with no contingency plans.

I do get slightly irritated at those who just think that players are queuing up to come to our club and the opposition clubs are just going to let them walk. We are slightly more attractive now we have Roos but many keep forgetting that we finished 2nd bottom and are not looking at finals contention in the short term. Trading is very complicated unless we are talking about NQR's, other clubs refuse, pre-retiree's and last chance footballers. The big ticket items are difficult to dislodge and usually have a preference for a better club.

I am sure we have thrown a net over lots of potentials with lots of knock backs and lots of not being able to dislodge them from their clubs. We have one and half days and i am philosophical about what will happen. We will either get a ready made footballer or go to the draft with pick and 2 and 3

Exactly what contingencies would you like.

Players have to actually WANT to come to our club.

You make it sound like that club should have all these players who simply want out of their club to come to us. Besides Essendon, we would rank with Stkilda and now maybe the dogs as least popular destination.

Trading is a three way proposition - we have to want a player, the player has to want to come to us and we have to be able to satisfy the other club ( its just that easy)

Trading is a three way proposition -

More than three ... we just as often have to satisfy the player's wife/partner, other players in our own club, player managers, the AFL etc. etc.. Very long list.

What contingency? It would be extremely naive of the club if all our trade ideas were hinged on everything going according to plan.

How about a contingency plan that allows for a bump or 2 in the road. So that if something unplanned is to happen, it doesn't send all our trade ideas down the drain.

What contingency plan? ..............................Let's call it the 'common sense' contingency plan.

So, lets just assume the following rumors are correct...

A. Getting 2 'best on our list' A-grade players, while keeping pick 2

B. Kennedy for 2, 3 & 23

Surely having pick 12 (Trengove) is not the only reason for going from A to B ?

The thing that troubles me most about the mooted Clark, Varcoe, HL trade is that we are getting screwed unless Geelong don't throw in their first or second round pick to equalise things. Otherwise we might as well make the same offer (to trade MC) to Collingwood when we deal on HL. Personally, I am very tempted to call MC's bluff and tell him that he is more value to us as a Demon beyond 31 October and we will use our second pick in the PSD to retain his services!

What current trade positions do we have other than 2, 3 & 23? I would offer Maggotwood pick around 40 or so and say that's it.

And the cats? What is their first pick? I don't think getting Lumumba in a 3 way trade is a good deal for us

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
