Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Interesting. Also possibly a ploy. Got no doubt Saints are still choosing between McCartin and Petracca, but are saying Petracca to drive up what GWS will give them for pick 1. They want Petracca bad.

We're doing the same to Bulldogs by indicating we'll take Brayshaw AND McCartin because you were too stubborn to trade with us. Wright will then be gone by pick 6, either by GWS, Collingwood or Brisbane.

They'll break. Another year without a KPF and they're screwed.

Sam Landsberger reporting that we are leaning toward taking both picks to the draft, as we aren't attracting the big fish deals we were after:

http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/james-frawley-joins-hawthorn-as-a-free-agent-melbourne-receives-pick-3-as-compensation/story-fndv8os9-1227081173430

The Dom Tyson deal did come together quite late, but wouldn't be surprised (or too unhappy), if we take the picks to the draft.

As you say, the Dom Tyson trade came late and we've only had one day of the trade period so far. There could very easily be deals out there that don't materialise until later this week or even next week. Happy to take both to the draft, but I'm also happy to see us sit on them and wait for the right deal.

Also entirely possible. I'm comfortable either way.

Think Brayshaw is a lock for us now, and we have a raft of good options with the other pick. In a draft where 4 players have been floated as worthy of pick one, holding 2 & 3 is a good place to be.

Particularly given the four are made up of 2 x mids and 2 x KPPS and the lower clubs have big needs in particular areas.

I love the intrigue and theatre of another Tyson trade coming together; it makes for great discussion and hypothesising.

With that said, I would be beside myself if we had two out of the three of Petracca, Brayshaw and McCartin!

On a side note: can someone help me out with the pronunciation of Petracca??

Is it: pet-racca / pe-tray-ca / or petra-cha??

I think Roos would still take two mids. In that scenario I can see him still trading down for the Bulldogs 6th pick, because any mids we take at 3 (assuming Petracca and Brayshaw are gone 1 and 2) will probably be there around pick 6. Wright and McCartin will go before any mids.

So we could take Bulldogs 6th and 26th in that scenario, and we end up one pick ahead. I know we want two first rounders though, so can't see that deal happening.

I'd be happy going to the draft with picks 2 & 3. Clubs need to make us offers now. The ball is in our court.

Umm the game's on our racket but the ball is definitely in their court. If we can pull off another Tyson-like smash and grab deal then it'll be game, set, match.

Roll the r directly after the t, and the double c is like a k.

Oh, and Brayshaw is pronounced like 'pick number 2'.

Can understand the desire to keep both picks from some on here. Personally though, I pray we trade at least 1. I am so, so sick of being terrible, coming out of this period with two more 18 year olds (plus the other picks and Frost/HL) won't do much for short-term success.

I know you need to build for the future, but our club desperately needs to start winning games and becoming more marketable. Otherwise it's not outside the realm of possibility that players like Jones will leave through FA

Fukin Essendon. They want apples for apples...therefore, they want Hamish Hartlett for Paddy Ryder. Makes sense

I hope he goes, & I hope they get nothing for him.

Tactically we're in an excellent position right now. Saints would've been planning to switch picks with GWS so they could pass up Petracca but still get McCartin. That's no longer possible. If they want a KPP they must now take whatever is left out of McCartin/Wright.

What we do depends on what they do, I'd say. If they trade to GWS and we lose Petracca, we'll get rid of pick 3 to the highest bidder and take our second midfielder further up the draft ala Salem.

If Saints are desperate for McCartin (as a GWS trade would indicate), they might just re-think trading away pick 1 now.

Heard Roosy more than once talk about that we need a mature player. "Supporters want to see improvement now". Flys in the face of the notion of taking two picks to the draft. He's been banging on for ages about getting pick 3, he will trade it out for something... Probably keep pick 2???

We can take picks 2 and 3 to the draft and still bring in a mature gun in trade period, they aren't mutually exclusive

We still have pick 23, and that got us Bernie Vince last year

Would like to use that pick to get someone similar to Bernie but maybe a couple of years or more younger

but if we can't get that Tyson type deal done, then we may have to go to the draft with both picks. And work on some retired ones.

Maybe we could give pick 3 to Collingwood, beams goes to Brisbane and we get Merrett and a young up and coming midfielder from Brisbane. Not sure who is available there though...perhaps it would be better to get beams to GC..they have more younger talent to send to us..

No offence man...but nah....Brisbane are being real tight asses...kind of like Essendon.

If we don't get any deals done with pick 2 or 3 then definitely draft Brayshaw and Petracca. Along with Viney, Tyson, Toump, Salem and the continued support of N.Jones and Vince, our midfield will be set for many years to come,

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
