Yes, we could go from a waltz to a comic opera.

Or from Carmina Burana to Gotterdamerung ... :lol:

Reading all the above, he could be a handy addition to our Liszt.

Now that we've all composed ourselves, I thought it might be time to introduce some serious notes to this topic.

Over at the Magpies Bulletin Board, their guru on recruiting matters is Colin Wisbey who we've quoted before. When asked about Wagner he was able to provide these notes which he stressed weren't based on any formal notes from the time he was in the mix as a prospective junior draft choice. I've also added his comments on another member of The Recruit hopefuls:-

* Johann Wagner:

189cm slim right-foot lead-up "full forward". Good ethic, handy pace. Very good intuitive judgement (timing, positioning etc) for a lead-up forward. Can take a nice mark (mainly on a lead) but can be a bit 2-grab against a decent-sized opponent.

In SANFL U19/U18, I saw him 5 times in '08 and 2009. Kicked 3g in 2 of those games but generally didn't get enough ball, even for his role.

Invited to 2008 SA Screening Session so had attracted some interest AFL from at least 2 AFL clubs. However, I didn't include him in my rankings as, AFL-wise, he's somewhat of a "tweener" - not really tall / heavy enough for KP yet hasn't displayed enough tricks / zip to picture him as an AFL flanker.

Update:

Played U18/U19s for 2 seasons (2008-9) for Port Magpies but left SANFL straight after missing out in 2009 draft as 19yo and played for a Port Lincoln club before returning to SANFL in 2014 to play Seniors (#18) for Central District.

By 2014 had bulked up enough for 3rd marking forward at AFL level but I still suspect he's a tweener re AFL level.
-------------

* Chris Moreland:

Played 11 TAC games for Geelong Falcons in 2007, mainly as a 184cm Macaffer-type forward (but nowhere near as prolific).

Impressive (5g, 21d) against the poor Bendigo team late July but barely noticeable in most of his other TAC games that season.

Pace query. I also queried his foot smarts at the time.

Seemed to be of decent character but never looked an AFL prospect.

His manager must have orchestrated this.

You mean they acted in concert?

I think they certainly Organ ised the movement.

No doubt there will be a chorus of opposition, as they must have pulled some strings. I can hear the drums beating now ...

I dont know so much about this guy

he doesn't exactly inspire me to world domination.

    UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

    Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
